Today on Dead Dodge Garage, we sell everything that isn’t nailed down (except the Demon) to spend a truly ridiculous amount of money on a car… but it’s my absolute favorite car of ever! The future is dumb, but at least my dream car is going to be in mine.
But, as you might have guessed… it has some problems.

@@DeadDodgeGarage 68 charger is the best year my uncle had 2 of them, they both were red with white interior, I just watched the video on KZfaq and u said u won't buy any more cars and I said to myself u need to buy a 1969 road runner with a 383 4 speed posi rear I had one.

@@alexdecastro4655 I love Roadrunners but I don't know that there is room in my stable for another B body any time soon. I have bought and sold a few things since the time of this video, but I haven't made any more major automotive investments - and I won't be able to for some time. I think I might like to have an E body (I've got a pretty good A body and this Charger, so that's the next natural step right?) But I also found a '68 340 Barracuda I'd really, really like to own. And on top of that, I'd really like a '55 Chrysler C300. Too many cars, too little time...

@@DeadDodgeGarage Damn, I'm a Mopar head I love that Chrysler C300 my dad had one in white and white interior, if I had money like that I would have RoadRunners, chargers, GTX, SUPERBEES, Challengers Baracuda, I would have it all, I went nuts when I went to Mopar Nationals over at Pennsylvania. Hopefully I'm going this year too.

I've been lucky enough to have owned two 69 Dodge Chargers. Bought one in 81 in a junkyard in National City, CA. $500. Sold it when I was sent overseas. 383, console, 727, Dana 60. In 85 I bought another in Denver, $1200. 318, 727, column shift. No posi. I'll never be able to own another; they're just too expensive now. I have a 64 Valiant to restore. It's good. I like yours!

I love an early A body too. A bodies were my jam forever. Still are, but I like the slightly larger B body - mostly for the ride quality. I’m putting together a ‘66 Barracuda street / strip car currently. Very excited about it. When my wife moved back here from California, it was basically our only car. Rowdy 360, four speed, 4.10s, glass packs with side dumps. We had a lot of fun in the thing. It’s gone through a few sets of hands and has now come back to me. It’s going to be awesome again - soon. I never, ever thought I could afford a nice Charger. I had actually just tried to buy an absolutely rotten POS shell to slowly build into a car. I got burned on that deal. I got really lucky on a deal for a Cobra replica last year, and when I eventually decided to sell, that (and a bunch of other projects) became my Charger. Still can’t believe it’s in the garage sometimes…

Great job showing the reality of driving an old car a long distance, in an entertaining way. Also does a good job of showing why restomods / pro-touring is popular, and also what a bargain modern muscle cars are.

If I was going to have this style, this would be the year. My friend has had his since he was 17. He has put a lot of love into it. For me though, you can't beat a 67 charger. It's just magical. One day I'll find one, or at least a clean enough one to work on. The lights, the body line, the interior, it was the whole package.
@DeadDodgeGarage

Agree, but only ‘66 has the full length console 😍 the interior is definitely magical on the early car. I had one for years, but once I got the ‘68 I always wanted, the ‘66 became surplus.

Had to comment even though this is 5mo. Old . I had a 68 in 82-83 had been totaled bent frame drivers side. I cut it apart and straightened it welded it back good enough to align. It was ugly but beautiful to me.All I have left is a few pictures. Most beautiful car of all time. I blame the auctions and the internet for ruining the hobby for all us blue collar guys.

Great car , I bought one in 1972 for $1200. Kept it until about 1974 and due to the 1970's gasoline shortages I only could get $500 for it. Today , this is hard to believe , but many of these old collectable cars were hard to sell. The 1968 was the best looking Charger. Enjoy it.

Oh I know. When I started in the hobby in 2008, Chargers like this were desirable, but most of the smaller A body cars (and later Bs) were still pretty much junk nobody wanted. Times sure change.

I have owned a1969 Dodge Charger SE 383 HP with 82,000 original miles. I did a not and bolt restoration in 2007. It’s insane how much they are selling for now. I really feel bad for people getting burned by cars like that one for $170k. That’s horrible! People spending that kind of cash should spend a few hundred bucks on a Mopar expert to do a pre inspection before they buy it. I’ve done it with every classic car that I bought that I couldn’t see myself and have never been burned thank God. Any classic car should be inspected before purchased. Period. Take care 👍👍👍

@@DeadDodgeGarage very bittersweet watch.... I am glad you got into one, sorry it cost so much for you to get it. I am sorta bummed I didn't have any to share moments like that with. But, my Sis had 3 and my Brother had 2, so I get to be Uncle Pat instead,, which has it's benefits. That's a great color combo. Mine's Apple Green with the same interior and white butt stripe. 440/833/2.73 Best mileage has been 16.4 with these gears and a 27.5" tire. But the car is WAY more fun with 3.91's I think a tremec is going to find its way in the car fairly soon and that will make things perfect. Thanks for posting your adventure and keep sharing. I enjoyed the ride along. Reminds me of a trip to Myrtle Beach from Kannapolis NC. My buddy and me in 1979 in my 69 Charger 383 auto with an Offenhouser 2X4 bbl. I bet our mileage was worse. But we had fewer miles to go. We picked up our girl friends that morning and drove to the food store. A fine officer of the law pulled me over in the parking lot and after checking all my paper work. Let me know my brake lights were not working. He gave me a business card that his brother in law owned. Towing and repair. Told me not to move my car until the car was repaired. Then he proceeded to park across the street and observe. My buddy was a great mechanic and said it was the fuse. So we bought some fuses along with the groceries we came for. Then returned to the car and replaced the fuse. I drove out of the lot and right by the cop with out using my brakes. The law pulled out quite quickly and just as he approached my rear bumper. I braked for the stop sign. He had such a disgusted look on his face. 😂. The 2X4 intake is one funny story also. For another time. I felt your joy in the trip. Many more ahead.

Fun fact: leaking valve covers and burnt oil smell from the oil dripping on the headers is standard equipment on the 383. I went for the optional electrical problems and hidden rust on my 71 Challenger R/T. I sold her about 45 years ago it was the saddest of times and the happiest of times.

Sorry, that’s a common misconception - the electrical problems and rust were *also* standard equipment - NOT optional. Hope that helped to clear things up. Dang. I hear that a lot. That’s a bummer.

@@DeadDodgeGarage Been a MOPAR fan all my life, I got to know that Challenger intimately, I met practically every nut, bolt, wire, fuel , brake line engine internals (pistons, crank, camshaft valves etc.)part intake, header bolt (note Appliance brand header are easier to install but hell when changing #8 spark plug) on the big block. But man, I had fun.

@@DeadDodgeGarage I can actually qualify as a "shade tree mechanic" I pulled the engine out using a chain hoist and block & tackle hung over a pecan tree limb.

I had that exact ride once in a freshly purchased firebird only there where no lights in front and it was an 89 Formula totally different league of vehicle. Mine only costed 500 bucks tho. Ya can't mess with that dawg. What a great car you have there.

I flew into a town in the middle of Australia and bought a Fiat 124 sport coupe driving it home 2000km,such a great trip, only thing that happened was losing the brake master cylinder in the last 20km.. .

They’re just special. They’re curvy and muscular from every angle. Extremely cool. I love ‘68 Plymouths too! We’re replacing the entire back half and floors of a ‘68 Roadrunner right now. But the Charger is the one for me.
