At 6:15, those models are "85 kilowatt hour" (measurement of energy), not "85 kilowatt" (measurement of power). That's equivalent to saying a car with a 15 gallon gas tank has 15 horse power. Use the right units!

Peter Soumanis this is worth thinking about, kiloWatt represents the rate for example the rate of power delivery / consumption. The rate is not the same as the total energy available or consumed. Electrical Power = the rate of energy conversion (as measured in Kilowatts on the electrical side of the conversion, whether when by accelerating converting battery power into drive torque or when by 'regenerative braking' turning wheel rotation back into stored energy.)

Then they scrap the car at 1,000,000 km. He knew of no issues with the engine or transmissions in the fleet of the taxi company he drove for.

I have a Tesla Model S P90D and when I bought it I was so scared of reliability, but honestly, the only problem I had in 3 years was that the car wouldn't update the software and when I called Tesla they drove all the way to my house to fix it. I have taken the car on 11 road trips, and free supercharging is the best thing. I traveled from Miami all the way up to New York and back for free. I still wanna buy the extended warranty just in case something breaks, but I don't see that happening anytime soon. And btw I don't go easy on the car, I do multiple launches every day because I love to go from 0 to 60 in 2.6 seconds.

@@justinanderson8758 Average lifespan of a vehicle is 10 years, and I guarantee you this car will far outlive that lifespan. Sure, the battery may degrade, but really it's nowhere near as bad as people make it out to be. Gets better every day too, how many people do you see driving an old Model T? Nobody will likely hold on to this car for long enough to let the battery die, and with Tesla's million mile battery coming soon, there will be even less degradation.

I wouldn't have guessed they could get the battery to last like an engine in these, that's quite good. But, what people don't realize is most maintenance costs on cars come from all the elecectrical components, rubber, and plastic. 80% of these parts are common between electric and gasoline cars. Mechanically, modern engines are very, very durable, often 1m miles durable. Even many auto trans are up there if fluids are maintained. But, people don't want their cars to work well, they want to see how far they can stretch their dollar and then lease/loan something shinny and new. I'll hand it to the Tesla nuts they care about their cars, more so than a lot of "enthusiasts." There's no magic reliability to them though. Tesla has the same chasis bushings and conponents, same brakes, same style CV joints, many of the same electronics, and same optional overpriced air suspensions as a *gasp* a landrover. Tesla has to go to the same questionable parts suppliers as all the Euro luxury brands do. The suppliers are always looking to slip some micro cost savings by. (Takata airbag) These parts will eventually die and accumulate in large numbers and you will see some teslas in a used car lot for nothing. I think some Tesla guys can see through this though since they like the things so much. Hopefully some third party service will get going to keep them on the road, aluminum bodies will not rust out. Basically, any car pushing any envelope of function or design, is not just the sum of it's parts, since the autopart industry is an untamable world-wide beast. The really thing that makes you question auto companies are repeated blatant design faults and cost cutting. Imo, vw group and fca are both getting there, not innovating and trying to make a facade to hide behind. Honestly though, every car is turning into a virtually identically made, 4000lb crossover mess with a 2.0t direct injection, so what's the point. Tesla's are kind of like an escape from that, I guess.

You nailed it, these cars are designed for the same 15 plus year lifespan as modern ICE cars. This is actually terrible and simply not good enough. The EV industry needs to atleast try to get to 20 year lifespan. Mileage doesn't realy matter on EVs as no private owner would practically drive it to it's limits for like 350,000 miles.

The only real concern with an aging lithium battery is the capacity. Power output or the torque will not change with capacity. Even if the battery has aged from use and as long as no venting (meaning cells are all physically fine) has occurred to the cells the power should not change.
