I believe what you are seeing is the foam gasket material commonly found where ac ducts connect. I would imagine it's the foam gasket behind the bezel that seals behind the ac vent. They deteriorate over time and the ac on high can dislodge any loose or crumbling bits.

You stole that car. If Specialty Motor Cars was selling this car he would be asking $19K - $21k. I believe if you wanted to sell it you could probably get $15K-$18K on Bat auctions. You got a unbelievably beautiful car at a ridiculous low price.

Towncars should always wear white walls. Blackwalls would be like a cowboy wearing a bowler hat instead of a stetson. What an awesome vehicle. I’ve had both the Lexus and the towncar and the towncar wins on everything for everyday……driving, comfort, reliability and running costs

Hey Stephen thanks for checking it out! I agree with you regarding the white walls, it’s just I’ve kind of hit a brick wall with trying to find a nice, reliable set of new ones. I have a video dropping in an hour at 8am CST where I go into more detail regarding the tire search, but basically I’ve only been able to find the travel star tires (which don’t have the best reviews) or the good year eagle tires which seem to be hard to find and are kind of just average reviews as well. I really love the look of the white walls, but with living in Chicago and daily driving this car I really need a good set of rubber on this car, especially with winter being right around the corner. If you have any other suggestions besides the travel star or Goodyears, or if you’ve had any experience with either of those let me know! Maybe you could sway me to grab some soon 👍🏼

Great car man! Recommend the following: 1) re-seal the outside vent cowl (maybe install a cabin air filter too, see lincolnsonline), 2) when servicing the rear diff, pull the axle shafts to inspect for bearing wear ("some" 03s-04s had soft axles), 3) familiarize yourself with TSB 17353 for the AC system (check the stamped low pressure switch part number to see if it's already been converted), 4) check the spark plug gap to preserve ignition coil health (be careful if you discover you have 4 thread spark plugs instead of 8, forget when they fixed that 03 to 04), and 5) don't panic if the rear parking system fails, all of them do eventually and most choose to live without them. Best of luck!

@GetThisNick I think he's talking about the plastic coolant crossover on the intake manifold vs the aluminum crossover. The aluminum was standard for '03+ I believe (you can easily check by checking to see if your alternator's back bolt engages an aluminum or plastic piece). Just FYI, the aluminum crossovers can still develop a leak at the meeting with the heads since the lip is plastic and it eventually warps.

Very nice Town Car! Great find! These things are very reliable, and will last for years and years if you maintain them. I have an 2004 Town Car Signature with 242K and everything works on it and it drives like it has 20K. One thing to check before you make it a daily is to check the rubber boots on the upper ball joints because they seem to deteriorate over time even with low miles.

These are the best cars Ford ever made. They really don't make them like this anymore. Cars now days are like throw away cars. I love the fact that the Town car, Ford Crown vic and Grand Marquise are so easy to work on. Travelstar tires with whitewalls is what I have been using on my 2006 Town car and I love them! Please put whitewalls back on the car! I bought mine from Amazon. The foam from the vents is a sort of gasket material, came out of mine for a while too but not anymore. Won't hurt a thing! Make sure that you turn off the air suspension (switch is in the trunk) whenever you lift the car . My car is same as yours except it's a 2006 Signature Limited and I have 125000. miles and it looks as good as yours and drives awsome! I have driven Town Cars for 30 plus years! This one is not my daily driver though. I use it for longer trips and it stays in the garage.

@TheNudeAmerican 8 ай бұрын
Many times that foam is just an insulating material from inside the vents. Even with everything else about the car being so immaculate, it's still old enough that the foam in the vent will be dry and deteriorating just from age alone. Therefore the pieces just blow through until there are no more loose pieces in positions to blow through.

I just bought a 2006 Town Car in the top trim Designer series with 29,500 miles on it for 11 grand a couple days ago. Your video I saw about a week ago and it confirmed that it was the color and look for what I was going to go for. It’s the same exact color as yours exterior and interior and has the factory moonroof and HID headlights. Interior is slightly different looking but many similarities. Unfortunately it has a few small dents I have to get repaired at a paint-less dent removal shop but it’s nothing major. It needs a good exterior detail because it was sitting for a while because the previous owner couldn’t drive it much the last few years because of his age. The interior is like new just like your car. I’m going to get a list of things done like you’ve mentioned and people have said in their comments for recommendations. Overall it’s a great car and I’m really happy with it. It would be cool to park yours next to mine one day. I’m in SE Michigan by Ann Arbor so if you’re ever in the area or the state and you want to do that just let me know. I’ll be getting the list of stuff done over the next couple months. I do have the same little pieces of stuff coming out of the vents but it’s not much. I’m glad some of the comments here cleared up what it was. I had a guess and wasn’t too worried about it myself. Anyways, really nice find with what you got. People have been making fun of me because I’m only 33 and wanted a Town Car. They just don’t understand how great of a car they are and how reliable the whole platform is. This car is going to be my daily for the next 100,000 miles at least. It’s a long term investment for me and I’m going to make sure it’s taken care of of the way it deserves since it wasn’t used much the last few years like it should have been. Once I get everything done and cleaned up it’ll look like new.

Yeah, that foam is from the HVAC actuators. Lincoln used that stuff as insulation on the shutter doors, it gets old and comes off. When you do all the fluids, be sure to change the brake fluid too. That stuff sucks up moisture from the air and can cause trouble over time. Change the cabin air filter! Tires?? I have Cooper Cobras on my Caddy CTS, they look great and wear well, plus they are QUIET. Blackwalls are the way to go. Looks like a very nice car, so from one Chicago man to another, enjoy and best of luck to you with this pretty girl!!!

The oily foam chunks you are seeing are the seals for the heat & a/c blend doors. As foam ages and is exposed to the heat of the dashboard it degrades into sticky chunks that come apart and get blown out of the vents. The foam padding on the headliner with eventually do the same thing and the fabric covering will droop. The blend door seals always go first because of the heat they are subjected to. The heating and a/c system will still work, it just won't be as efficient because the doors can't seal off properly.
@GetThisNick
@GetThisNick 11 ай бұрын
Good to know! Anything I could do to prevent the headliner from getting to that point?
@mattvermont7994
@mattvermont7994 11 ай бұрын
The one thing that really saves the headliners is if the car is garaged and not left out in the sun all the time. I have both a 1994 and a 1995 that still have good headliners. But these cars have always been garaged when not being used. You are definitely in luck because your car is such a light color it does not heat up as much in the Sun. Obviously black cars lose their Headliners first. That is a beautiful car that you found and they are very hard to find in that condition for a reasonable price. I have been looking for one for years now but they always have high mileage and the owners seem to want more than what you paid for them. When you get a chance go to the channel called specialty motor cars. There is a cowl reseal that you need to do on the car otherwise it will leak water onto the floor. There is a video on that channel with complete instructions on what to do. Enjoy the car!

Something that can happen when that phone seal around the blend doors breaks down like that is that it can cause the blend doors to get sticky and slow. I have experienced that same issue on my Town car. It will take awhile when you push one of the buttons on the climate control for the blend door to actually move into position. I would also argue that sagging headliners are not always going to occur. I have my father's 1990 Grand Marquis with no sign of the headliner letting loose. It has been stored inside when not being driven its entire life. It's sitting outside in hot sun that tends to make the headliner foam degrade.
@mattvermont7994
@mattvermont7994 6 ай бұрын
Yes, keep the car out of the hot sun as much as possible when not driving it. I have both a '94 and a '95 that both have the original headliner intact. It's only because they have always been garaged. I did once have the headliner replaced in an '86 and it cost $600, but that was 8 years ago. Probably $1000 now.@@GetThisNick

A young woman who worked for my daughter asked me to find the best car for her $3000 budget. I found her a 2004 TC Ultimate just like yours except it had a sun roof and a P71 Police Interceptor package. The car was special ordered for the Governor of Alabama's Chief of State Security. She got it at the Alabama State auction for their police vehicles over 10 years old with 100K miles or more. She got it for $3000. The car had been perfectly maintained. This car is the Ultimate in Luxury and it actually screams with smoking tires with the P71 Police Interceptor package. She kept it for years and never did anything to it. She sold it a couple years ago for what she paid for it and it was totaled by some young guy that couldn't handle the power.

Congratulations on the purchase of this beautiful 2004 Lincoln Town Car. I would check the date on the tires and if they are the original tires, I buy new ones soon. You can check the manufacturing date by finding the embossed DOT stamp on the tire. There should be a total of about 12 letters and numbers following the the DOT stamp. The last four numbers indicate when it was made. Of the last four numbers, the first two indicate the week in which it was made, and the last two numbers the year it was made. For example, the last four numbers on my tires are 2220. It was made on week # 22 in the year 2020. If those are original tires on your 2004 car, then the last two numbers should be 03 or 04, depending on when your car was made. I have been driving Lincolns since 1986. My current daily driver is a 2002 Town Car that I bought in 2007. I paid $11,750 and it had 36k miles on it. It has been mostly trouble free, but the rear air ride suspension went out in 2015. I had it replaced with a good set of coil springs. Unfortunately this is a very common problem with these cars. The air ride suspension went out on my 1994 Town Car that I used to have in 2008. My 1994 Town Car had the same issue as your car with the foam insulation? coming out of the A/C vents. When I picked up these pieces, they would disintegrate and leave a oily residue on my fingers. I am not sure why this happens, but I guess it's one of the problems of having an older car. This has not happened yet on my 2002 Town Car. It's too bad that the previous owner left the same oil in the crankcase for six years. At least it wasn't driven very far, and hopefully it didn't do any damage. Good luck with your new car.
@GetThisNick
@GetThisNick 11 ай бұрын
Thanks for the info! Yes it would leave an oily residue on my fingers as well. From what I’ve researched, the foam coming from the vent seems to be a foam piece/gasket that goes around by the actuators behind the vent. I’ll do a video on it sometime within the next couple days to explain what I mean.. a guy from the group im in on Facebook pointed it out to me. And yes I looked at the DOT stamp, the tires are original! I need some new ones ASAP but need to do some research on what is the best replacement and if I want to keep the whitewalls or not. Thanks for checking out the video and keep an eye out for future videos!

Get Mitchllin for the ride. I also have white walls and trying to keep the white walls clean is nearly impossible because of gas off. I paid $22,000 for a car that was almost 30,000 miles on it so yes indeed you did get a good deal. As for your problem, check the left side there is a vent with a filter. You have to unscrew and clean that out. Usually that gets plugged in and water comes in but if you clean it before it is plugged, you may not have that problem.

I’ve been keeping an eye on it as I too have heard the same thing. I also heard that the air filter of a jeep grand Cherokee will fit snug in that spot with just a little bit of trimming with some scissors. I think I’ll do a video soon taking care of that as well as trying out that filter as these cars obviously didn’t come with one. Thanks for checking it out!

Foam around vent breaking down. Perfectly normal for older car foam seals to deteriorate and fall apart. Pull out vent from dash and remove /replace foam seal with new vent. As for tires, I would suggest sticking with Michelin brand tires. I know they were expensive, but they are well worth the money.

Awesome find! I got 2 2011 TCs with 29k miles - sadly their mileage keeps going up as they are both daily for us as commuter cars. I would leave the white walls, they kinda just go with these landyachts. I had to replace mine with black tires as - yes it is - the car is still under warranty. 10.5 is a really, really good price. Specialty MC would sell it for twice as much and out here in california i have seen 15-20k low mile TCs. I paid mine 20 each...

Color is Cashmere Tricoat. If you don't want to splurge for the Michelin's, for a thin whitewall, I know of one kind many use for way less expensive costs. Travel Star. Around a hundred bucks a piece versus 3 or 4 each. I have an '05 with black walls and I'm probably going to go with Travel Star's when it's time. Great price for an Ultimate with those low, very low miles. My '05 had 64K on it a year and a half ago (now 67K) and I paid under $9k at a dealer just a block away from me. Saw it the day after (Sunday) it was traded (Sat) , I bought it the next business day (Monday). I have a newer car too but I end up driving the LTC around town more.

The foam blowing out of your AC vents is typical when the town car gets old and it is a gasket material in the AC system. One common problem with the AC on this car is AC actuator doors not working. Actuator doors direct air to come out the vent you have it set to come out. Eventually the foam will stop coming out. Its still a better car than whats being made today, only reason Ford stopped making them is because old people were the only ones buying them and they were not selling enough of them to justify continuing production. I wish they'd bring them back. If you park it outside near a tree, be sure to place a screen over the fresh air intake because leaves will clog up the drain and cause water to pour into your floorboard. All cars have a fresh air intake but most people don't pay any attention to keeping leaves out of it.

Leaving fresh oil in a car engine will hurt nothing. Look at it this way: the oil was in the ground for millions of years, meaning the oil does not change or "go bad" due to age. Modern, quality engine oil can stay in an engine for decades with no adverse effects. It's oil for chissakes, not milk, wine, or gasoline. Yes, gasoline is made from oil, but gasoline has many components that can and will evaporate off, thus degrading the gasoline to being effectively varnish or turpentine; but engine oil does not have this problem. Good for you for changing the oil, I admire that, but you are wasting money when you don't have to.

For 10,500 you robbed those people haha. If you put around 1k into this for little maintance jobs such as tires, transmission service, coolant and diff fluid swaps etc you could easily get 15k for it if you sold it even if you put 15-20k miles on it while you own it. If you look after the car it really won't depreciate at all now especially considering people know these can easily clear 200k miles. For tires I am running Pirelli P7 AS Plus 3's on my Town Car (at around $190 a corner fitted and balanced) and they are smooth, quiet and seem to last a good while too. Ive also ran the Michellin Defender 2's on another Town Car and they were also great but about $20-30 per corner more expensive - in my view no better than the Pirellis. There is one brand that does white walls (see Specialty Motor Cars here on youtube as that guy always uses them on his Town Cars) but cant speak to the price or performance of those.

Back in 2016 I bought a 1999 black lincoln town care signature series with 35000 original miles from an elderly man who could not drive anymore because he was loosing his site. I paid 1500.00 dollars for the car. This car was emaculate. I could not believe the deal. I had been in an auto accident because two older women decided to play bumper pool and I was the corner pocket. I was driving a Taxi at the time and I had a fellow taxi car owner friend, He was offered the car, but when he knew my situation he gave me the the name and number of the man that offered it to him. so I called and soon I had my car beautiful. It now has only 77.000 miles on this car and it is my daily driver.
