I've said it before and I'll say it again, Ed is the greatest infomercial guy ever. You don't even realize that you're in a commercial until it's too late. And even then, you're not mad cuz he's so smooth and entertaining! He reminds me of the Saul Goodman of the car world, in a good way.

It feels weird that Ed bought a car from the last 5 years. Everything that his buying mentality is geared at older, analog, usually manual, non-depreciating, mostly Italian supercars. This is a large departure from that. Although the R8 is my own attainable dream car, so I look forward to seeing his ownership.

Always wanted an R8, and a few years ago they were almost affordable for the everyman. I remember finding decent examples a few for just under $60k, but I was in college… and now that im out and seeing the prices ill probably never be able to afford one

Ed, when I was shopping for a used R8 the first one I drove was a 2017. When accelerating I couldn't believe how the car jerked in every shift. When I asked the salesman about this his response was, "all I can tell you is Audi changed the transmission in 2018." I then drove two 2018 and felt a huge difference in the smoothness of the transmission shifting. Didn't buy either having learned both were leased and tracked which is very common among 2 year old R8's for sale. Wife persuaded me to order a new 2020 and build it my way. I did and love it. In that I am daily driving the car and it won't see a track while I own it, I didn't go with ceramic brakes that don't work as well in the rain so I chose not to buy the plus.

The R8 is great but i take the FF or the Lusso easy over the R8!

When Ed says I was look8ng for the car with the "right story" then that is code for i am going to be a shrewed negotiator and buy a car with a very questionable past and is just inches from being in the condition of too costly to repair but still savable but just rough enough to sell for cheap.

Ed seems to be one of those dudes who love the drama of not knowing if he'll make it to the final destination or not & if everything will be working correctly when he does. It's a cliff hanger irl. That being said, I get why this car was maybe a bit of a disappointment for him. Redundancy & reliability somewhat kill the adventure of it all.

I would be curious to know how the R8 V10+ compares to a 911 Turbo S.

After driving a R8 in Vegas around the track for 8 laps in 100+ degrees with the a/c on after being driven 8 more before me by someone else then and only then did the oil temp rise that it needed a cool down lap I was in love with them driving was a joy.
