Having owned Ferraris and taken them to both official dealers and independent garages, I think the mistake here is two things happened at the same time: one, you modified the cars electronics. I’m not sure if you claimed otherwise, but this isn’t a trivial type of exhaust. It’s likely the whole system, including messing with sensors/electronics and their readings, touching the cats, etc.. The second issue is you’re out of your country. This means language barriers, confusing rules about where the issues occurred and therefore who should and shouldn’t service and cover the costs… It’s just messier. I think one or the other events would be fine, but I think with both happening at the same time, they’re just seeing your issue as a pain in the ass. So the easiest thing to do is say, “you touched the electronics and you have an electronic issue, that’s on you.” And as mad you are allowed to be at that, they’re not wrong. And if there’s one thing supercar ownership has taught me it’s if you can’t afford paying for all this shit out of pocket, don’t do it, because you might just have to. And personally, I find the cameras in their faces not helpful either. It’s Ferrari Monaco, not Honda in the boonies. They don’t need your marketing. If anything, they will be extra hesitant to do anything special for you because corporate can see it. I wouldn’t pound fists back either because I wouldn’t want to create that connection unless I really knew you and the situation when my bosses could be watching. I’m not shitting on Nico at all, I’m just speaking from my experience…

Ferrari is just a trash brand they treat their customers like shit. I own a porsche and a lambo i have exhausts and tunes on them and i still have my warranty lol

@@jakkor1106 I‘ve never had problems with Ferrari when it comes to aftermarket exhaust. That’s why I said I think the approach is just not right… I think it’s just the wrong dealer (barely speak English) at the wrong time (they’re busy) with the wrong guy (new customer with no rapport at that dealership) acting the wrong way (cameras in their face acting like they’re bros). My point is, the vibe in the entire interaction seems off, so I think he’s getting the wrong treatment now.

As a technician for one of the major German Manufactures , I always tell a consumer to not modify the vehicle without checking the warranty. Things like this happen when an outside electronic gets installed, by a company that seems 100% reputable. The issue is the vehicle is completely new and odds are the installer does not understand the wiring of the vehicle and they tend to probe wires to "find" what wire to (Tap into, or cut into for power or ground). Then you have over heating wires and other modules cutting short because of high resistance , or short. Anyways best of luck, hopefully someone can help you out Nico. I've got my fingers crossed , much luck to you Brother.

My best guess is that the Novitec exhaust replaces the OPF filters and the bypass system (if something like that is installed) is not doing a great job fooling the ECU into thinking that the OPFs are still in place. But that's just a guess, since I don't know the whole story

So then the OTHER question is, what does NOVITEC have to say about the issue? Can't be good publicity for a company the SPECIALIZES in aftermarket Ferrari exhausts to have their product somehow COMPLETLEY FRYING a car's stock ECU! And isn't an exhaust a 100% reversible modification? Like, wouldn't it have been possible to swap the original equipment back on BEFORE taking it to the Ferrari service? Assuming this had happened at home...

⁠⁠@@StreetPreacherrprobably very difficult to completely reverse the modification. The ECU would be completely remapped for the new exhaust, so even if it was put back to stock, the software would show on the change log. Getting into the software change log would be proprietary Ferrari technology, so they would still find out it was mod’s. Your right that NOVITEC may want to save face and do something because of the publicity, but their position will always be it’s a Ferrari issue until you prove me otherwise.

@@divinedriftofficial Yes. There have been a lot of lawsuits about it. Just like when Nissan was voiding warranties for using launch control on the GTR. The courts in that case determined they weren't allowed to void the warranty for a feature that was not only on the vehicle, but one used widely in the advertising to sell the vehicle. People say the US is lawsuit happy, but sometimes it's a good thing.

Although ONE difference is that changing an exhaust should be a 100% REVERSIBLE modification... Compared to 'icing out' a watch, which requires DRILLING HOLES into the original bezel/bracelet/etc... I just wonder if Ferrari would have even known if he had been at home and could have had the stock exhaust put back on before taking the car to Ferrari service? Assuming they didn't see his video lol.

I think exhaust changes the back pressures on the engine, which would change the tune. You also have lambda sensors on the exhaust, so you may have to modify sensors and remap, so I dont know if it is as straightforward to reverse. The car would log all the changes.@@StreetPreacherr

@@StreetPreacherr Yes you can put the exhaust back on, but there is potential that there was irreversible damage created within the system by using an after market exhaust, putting the exhaust back on doesn't solve those problems. Best course is to get it back to factory exhaust and then have all the issues fixed and keep it factory. "I young enough know the right car to buy yet grown enough not to put rims on it"

Most people with that level of income AND who are strong car enthusiasts would rather get that AMAZING aftermarket exhaust (I prefer Capristo Stage 3) than "suffer" with the stock exhaust. Warranty be damned. I THINK you can get AFTERMARKET warranties, however. He should still do that!! But, read on. I gave my BMW dealer shop foreman $100 bottles of Single Malt Scotch Whiskey when I needed to. He warrantied ANYTHING and EVERYTHING on my HIGHLY modified E46 M3 at the time. He saved me THOUSANDS of dollars!! My outlay may have been $300 to $400 in booze over that last two years of the BMW warranty. This owner could have established a close and personal relationship with SOME UK dealership. He can still try that. I ALWAYS find a way.....and it involves reading people. Dealerships have a WIDE latitude of what they can do. Oversight by any car manufacturer's International entity is mostly absent.

This is a known issue with new Ferraris and Novitec. The bypass plug unit doesn’t always work.

So does that mean that NOVITEC is aware of the issue and has some sort of FIX for it? I'd imagine if the mod somehow FRIED the original ECU then it's likely to do the same thing to any replacement? And doesn't NOVITEC provide their own separate warranty for their parts at least? It's not like he threw on some bargain basement Chinese Straight Pipe 'tin steel' exhaust... Novitec is a VERY well known, and EXPENSIVE, designer/manufacturer of aftermarket equipment MOSTLY for 'EXOTIC' cars!

It’s up to you to take them to court and prove that. Good luck getting Ferrari involved in that.

I know exactly what is wrong.u have too much free flow btwn the exh valve and the front cat face.u r creating excessive heat around knock1&2 sensor locations,more than the engine ECU map is expecting to see around the cyl heads compared to engine bay others:. Stoichiometric lambda ratio 1:43.1ish & because of HIGH head heat ure leaning mixture pre-detonation,which excite knock sensor banks.RETARDS IGN to Stop you melting pistons.hence ure half cranks/no start.eng ECU tell all other ECU stop 🛑! FIX; INSTALL STANDARD EXHAUST WITH BRAND NEW GASKETS FROM DEALER.(you had the fault once before w/o the exhaust upgrade because you were driving it in the same fashion you are driving it now).MSG ME NICO np

I don't know much about Novitek exhaust systems, but could it be something simple like a faulty sensor, or even heat from the exhaust melting some wiring (as I said, I dont know how well it's shielded, or if there's any wiring near it) and causing a short somewhere? If it is, a new ECU will be an expensive way to not fix the problem.

Always a gamble when you know modding it will invalidate the warranty, especially when taking it on a roadtrip... to Monaco. Doesn't even really matter if it was the Novitec upgrades or not if modding = no warranty. I doubt the finance company would be too pleased either, it's probably in their terms and conditions not to mod it as well.

This is for sure an issue with the immobilizer system, likely a short circuit when the system was wired in. Nico doesnt understand that the exhaust isnt the modification that likely upset Ferrari.

I think Nico isn't aware that a brand new exhaust system, needs the engine to be "remapped", aka work on the main cpu and electronics. Had you done just the mufflers I don't think they would have been able to void a thing, but airflow and gear chart adjustments definitely have all to do with the electronics of your beautiful machine. P.s. I agree with other comments, all that videoing "right in your face" isn't appreciated at Ferrari... I get it, it's what you do, but if you really wanna take care of this issue, there's a time and place for everything.

They were just nice to even allow him to spend a QUARTER MILLION POUNDS to purchase the car in the first place! And WHY do they think a brand new ECU will fix the problem? Unless the original computer was 'bad', then won't a new ECU just have the same problems?

@@StreetPreacherr 100% agree with you here! Wasn’t convinced when they said a new ECU will fix the problem when they don’t even know the cause (or at least didn’t say on camera). Computer components do fail, but I think he bought a Friday 5pm car. Add to that the modification just tipped it over the edge! The new KZfaq channel Nico MK2 is probably an attempt to monetise videos of all the faults it will have! Can’t blame him really!

BRO REMOVE THE VODAPHONE TRACKER IMMEDIATELY!!! My dad had it on his Porsche and they just kept killing his car on his driveway and then when we called them they denied that it was the immobiliser but as soon as we put the phone down the car worked again. It happened 3 times like that. Then the Porsche tech told us that VODAPHONE tracker is shit and they do this all the time. It cost a lot of money to get call out Porsche tech’s because of that shit tracker. Remove it and get a different one

Could it be the ground wire? Cars have random points of grounding, and the random issue kinda points to this - depending on the signal load and the heat on the wire will change the resistance of the wire.

This could (potentially) be a pretty bad advert for Novitec (not Ferrari). IF, the Novitec T&Cs don't mention a voiding of the warranty, then their legal team need to work directly with Ferrari to give you a resolution. But, if Ferrari don't have a direct agreement with Novitec, then Ferrari will hold all of the cards, and Novitec may be liable. If that is the case, then not only should they provide you with compensation, but they should also notify lots of their clients - YIKES!! (if it's in the T&Cs then it's on you). All modern car manufacturers can tell if their cars have been modified with aftermarket products - and it's an easy way out of warranty (keep in mind that insurance companies will ALWAYS look for a way out). I sincerely wish you the best of luck with this.

@@weareallenemyofthestate9883 i wonder if he got talked into it by the youtube lads , one thing they dont worry about is warranties and repairs as their youtube channels make big money, they can afford to repair the cars. , i think whats happened is Nico has blindly gone into buying a Ferrari with the hope of doing car youtubing and they have probably said you need this exhaust to make it sound good on videos etc.. and Nico went with it, most times you never need the warranty, its just bad luck sadly

@@denzel1832not necessarily, but all they need to do is stick to their guns until you decide to take them to court. Even then it will be your expert vs their expert that the mod was anything to do with the failure. But you are right, best just not getting your car modified if you want to be sure they will honour the warranty.

Ferrari definitely plants something in the software that messes with aftermarket parts. Seen a few videos now of after market exhausts on different models; 812, sf90 that makes the exhaust smoke like an old factory chimney, but when the stock one is refitted its totally fine

I had this problem on my last car all the lights, symptoms pointing towards battery or ecu , it wasn’t a Ferrari but the thing in common was the Vodafone immobiliser, took it off and then the problem disappeared. Please make sure the rule out the Vodafone immobiliser 1st before you spend lots of money!

Better to transport it back to NI put the original exhaust back on and revert and ECU map. Especially if theyre going to make you pay for the ECU replacement. You seem to think an exhaust is just a mechanical mod but theres quite a few variables that are altered computer wise with that system. Also seems to be happening only when Engine has warmed up again, if so its definitely exhaust/wiring around the exhaust system.

Nico you are an incredible content creator and I am a HUGE fan, the problem isn't just you though. All the creators who buy these super cars and hyper cars just seem to not be able to leave well enough alone. These are stock honda civic's that don't have complicated ECM's and other computers that make them the super cars they are. Spending a couple hundred grand on a car most people only dream of then feel they need it louder and faster. DDE perfect example, STRAD another example, these cars are designed to be awesome from the factory and it's a shame that the "in thing" is to make them so obnoxious that this happens. I truly hope you can this fixed because you worked to darn hard to have something so awesome be ruined.

That’s so true! Read the comments on his Ferrari delivery video and see how many wags are telling him he needs to go to Novitec and get a much louder exhaust. They basically think their subscriptions and views pay for the goodies and to a certain extent they do! Nico is an established KZfaqr and could have got away with a separate car channel sans the ‘loud’ exhaust but he sees all the other car vloggers Tavarish, DDE et al and even joins DDE in the States so he didn’t stand a chance. But don’t feel sorry for him these mishaps will only raise his profile.

@@minitune7285 My thing is Nico doesn't need to have a car channel. He has two great channels. The whole thing with these mods to super cars is I guess part of the hype thing going around. But look at Manny and Shmee, the Hamilton collection guys they do factory mods. Especially Manny nothing on his cars is aftermarket or 3rd party and he has ten times the car value as most others. I am not hating on Nico I just wish he wouldn't follow these other guys because these cars were not made to be or need mods but yeah I guess that is what the audience wants to see. I just think it's foolish. I want nothing but the best for Nico he is awesome without a car channel

Usually after upgrading the exhaust the ECU need to be reflashed with the new calibration. If that was done it’s probably a fault caused by novitec custom calibration in the powertrain module

It doesn't cause ECU to physically fail. Worst ever case would be check engine and car would run rough. But I REALLY REAAAAAAAAALLY doubt changing an Exhaust with an aftermarket but MADE for the car, should give all those troubles.

Modding the exhaust is obviously going to affect the computer as its not set up that way, so due to you wanting decibels ferrari voided your warranty and i dont blame them

Let's be fair here - it was YOU that replaced the exhaust, and undoubtedly the airflow and chamber sensors which communicate back to the central ECU. I don't think it's fair to say that 'Ferrari have f***ed you in the arse' - you did that all by yourself, right?! I don't think its reasonable to expect a manufacturer to honour their warranty T&C's when a 3rd party has made modifications. Perhaps the best you can hope for is to put the car back to stock, and then see if they'll honour the warranty?

And what has NOVITEC had to say about the situation? It's not like Novitec is some sketchy exhaust system hacked together in a shed... They're a HUGE aftermarket equipment designer & manufacturer that deals almost EXCLUSIVELY with component for EXPENSIVE EXOTIC CARS! I assume they went through extensive testing to maximize performance gains and compatibility with the Ferrari, so I assume NOVITEC would be fairly concerned if their very high priced exhaust setups were completely FRYING stock ECUs!

Good points . The only thing I would say is that having modded the car Ferrari can claim that the damage has already been done. I just don't get why anyone would screw around with a car like that to make it sound 'better'. Apart from anything else, why attract any more attention from the police than is necessary? A car like that is a target anyway as they all discovered in Switzerland and bolting on extra bling makes it more so.

He had a obd scanner or something like that plugged in while driving. I heard from many mechanics that this could potentially mess up the computer and this car has multiple computers!

Iif you are getting that many error codes, i would personally check that all the plugs to the ECU, computer ect, are actually plugged in and locked, could be just a loose plug from when the immobiliser was fitted, something might have been knocked loose. Also love the comments that he's modified the wiring, The Immobiliser was fitted by the dealer. He says that in the video.

@@isportugal4kIt wasn’t ‘just an exhaust’ this isn’t just a Smart car. To fit an after market exhaust to a vastly precision manufactured super car you need similar technical expertise to design and fit a host of new sensors, modify the software, re-route looms, upgrade gaskets, test and regulate back pressure and temperatures etc. Just ask Novitec how long it took them to design this ‘after market exhaust’. The only thing I can say is with a half a million pound super car any mods that include such extensive modifications check with your dealer or at least check the forums for any related issues.

Nico I'm sorry to hear about your current situation. But, if you drill holes in your RM, put diamonds in it. Then, when it breaks, take it back to RM to get it fixed. They will say you voided the warranty. Quick lesson. By a used older car out of warranty to modify. Keep your now one stock until the warranty is over.

It is a joke that Ferrari voids the warranty for changing the exaust. Unless they flashed a different software on the car for the exhaust the exhaust has nothing to do with this problem. If you delete the CAT or the particle filter (withour editing the software) you will get one fault from the car that will say there is a problem with it (because it is missing) but noting like this!

I had similar thing happen to my BMW loads of faults turned out was earth lead corroded fitting. So computer was going crazy with faults. Was fine once earth lead was fixed. I wondered if your modified exhausted installation caused earth cable issue..

Lipstick on a pig. Ferrari's are trash, hence why they try to buy them back from people. I knew two Ferrari mechanics who both didn't have much of anything flattering to say about them. They said they are very inconsistent and most Replacement parts had to be modified to fit; suspension arms, body panels, etc. At least the Ferraris from 20+ years ago and prior.

@@SolemnStacker i coudnt agree more, i worked for ferrari aswel. they are litteral shit cars. nothing but problems, especially electric. ive seen 488pista's who got delivered new with such paint faults, they had to repaint the car 3times, leather coming lose, headliner coming lose, dashbord lining that came lose.... the only good ferrari's are old ferrari. i woudnt even want 1 for free. want a reliable supercar buy lambo
