The "wet finger in the air" is a trick to find out where the wind is blowing from. You wet your finger, stick it in the air and guestimate the direction of the wind based on where on the finger it gets cold first. It's an old sailor trick and a perfectly good analogy for what Nico was trying to convey. It's used in Norway as an analogy for an educated guess. Go get'em Nico!

Yup, wet finger work is a thing, we have it in Slavic countries as well. It's an old way of determining the direction in which the wind is blowing - you lick the finger and point it up (only we do it with the index finger) and if there's a gust of wind in any particular direction you can feel it. It's old-timey guesswork they used to see if it was likely to rain or something, but yeah, a big old fucking guesstimate xD

A friend of mine is trying to spark me into watches. Before I even started watching Nico I already own 2 Casio F-91W :) I had one but then I thought i lost one of them so I bought a new one and then found the other one :) I buy them because my grandfather used to have a 1977 Casiotron Calendar 2000 :) And he was wearing it a few years before my parents got married and died of old age wearing the watch :) We buried him with the watch because he was always with the watch. Now after i watch Nico i am going to buy myself a G-shock :)

Im born American and I know what wet finger work is really. It's how you test for windage and/or the direction of the wind. The idiom comes from the reference that you don't know which way the wind blows.
