HENRY NOOOO!!!!!, I don't know if it's the camera angle but your tripod looks in a precarious angle, every time it came into shot I thought bugger me it's going to go over!!!!

For me, it is a mistake not to level the tripod and extend the leg on the side where the weight could pull it (or shorten the other 2)

Argh! Sorry Henry but I've got to get this off my chest. At 5:43 your tripod is looking precarious. You need to either extend your left two legs or drop your right leg. Not enough height? Then you need a centre post or taller tripod. Just trying to save you breaking another camera. 😉

You need to send the OM5 and lens off to the OM repair centre in Portugal. Everything is fixed price, irrespective of the amount of damage, so you just book it in through the web site which will tell you how much it will cost including all postage. It shouldn't be away for long, turnaround is normally around 2 weeks to the UK if I remember. I've had reason to use it a couple of times and found the service to be top notch!

That 300mm shot with the boat just nails everything that is great about telephoto photography, just a fantastic image and really well spotted. Defo going to experiment more with DX mode after seeing that! Really sad about the OM5, hopefully they will offer a fair repair price. I find the 24-200 performs best at around F8, I think it is a wee bit sharper in the center vs F11, only really matters if you are cropping the image tho.

Some really beautiful shots Henry - well worth your patience in waiting for the light. I loved the shot with the car headlights through the mist. Sorry to hear about the damage to your new camera, that must have been gutting. I hope you're able to just get the base plate replaced. If not, I sent my Fuji off to be repaired last year and paid an extra £10 for the express service. It was a very reasonable fixed price regardless of the repair required and I got in back in about a week - I was really impressed. Good luck in getting in fixed one way or another.

Excellent location, excellent conditions, excellent images. We've had some light covering of snow recently would be the only improvement I can think of. Excellent image of the trees, mist and the river, just enough reflection on the surface of the water.. I feel for you when your equipment breaks, hopefully it is an easy repair. Had horse knock a camera off the top of wall, which bent my favourite lens, completely seized.

Gorgeous images Henry, although I’m an amateur I fully understand the exposure triangle and aperture to me is a means to getting the right shutter speed for any given situation. Since day one (3 years ago now) I have almost exclusively shot in full manual mode as it makes me think about the situation/conditions I’m faced with or the effect I am after. The only time I think about aperture first is with regard to depth of field. If I can’t take a landscape shot handheld due to situation/conditions I’ll whack it on a tripod. The beauty of landscape photography is you almost always have the option for either 😉 sorry for the damage to your OM5, I’d be gutted 🙁

You’ve excelled yourself again Henry! Beautiful images and I must say I’m a touch jealous of your ‘local’ area. I wasn’t sure about the image with the buildings and the car headlights, my eyes were drawn to the headlights first but I suppose they work to give scale and to tell a story. So sorry about the OM5. I was worried you were going to drop and break your Z7 and lens in addition to your OM5 with the way you were standing your tripod a few times there, I like to use f11 to f14 and more so with f13 to f14 for deeper focal depth as long as my ISO and shutter speed are ok for my usual hand holding with a stabilized body or lens, and the Z7 has diffraction compensation that I sometimes use, Great scenery when the light starts coming down !

Something similar happened to me. My tripod fell over a few years back with a EM-1 mk3 still attached to the top, the lens didn't have a scratch on it, but tripod plate was torn off and the bottom of the body was split in two. The price for the repair through Olympus was a lot less than I had expected.

Everyone has their own opinion about things. Yours about the aperture is fine. In your photo videos, I'd like to see that you use a tripod properly. They have adjustable leg lengths for a reason. That is so you can balance them as not to fall over. Getting your camera base repaired will likely cost the better part of a new tripod. LoL

Henry that last image you put up with the little fishing boat is absolutely stunning. Personally I'd crop in a bit more and lose the top of the tree bottom right. But wow what a shot! Regarding aperture I've seen quite a few videos recently where different photographers suggest using the sweet spot of your lens as the best option where the conditions allow so usually 2 stops above the lowest your lens will go so if F2.8 then use F5.6 you'll get the sharpest images that way even if using a tripod. Wonderful content as always sorry to see the OM5 take a hit hope you can get it back up and running soon 👍

Yes, the problem arises, according to OM, when using the peak design support. In my case, it did. The solution, expensive by the way, was to change the camera for the OM1, buy an L-mount and forget about carrying the camera on the backpack strap.

I have a nikkor 28-300 that lives on my old full frame nikon. I have found f9.5 is the sweet spot for this lens and camera so that is where I start. But you are right about using the whole triangle to get the shot. You have to adjust to the situation. The camera and lens are tools, you are the brains that guide them. Change what you have to to get the shot. I enjoy your posts. Genuine enthusiasm.

Not gonna comment about the new camera 🫣 Those zoomed in pictures were oustanding. The composition is class but the tones and the overal mood of the images are just truly mind blowing. A well done is little compared to how i was feeling watching the video. The one thing I'd like to ask, as i dont understand it, is as you were on tripod, did you set the aperture at 11 for the shutter speed due to the mist of is it because its a habit of the f11? Need to watch this video and take it all in again. Thanks Henry, that was superb.

My aperture is primarily used as a DOF or subject isolator tool... My shutter speed and iso take care of the speed required for the subject matter... It's why I only shoot "M"... Hello Henry Sorry but looking at the way you have your tripod set up I can't help but wonder this had anything to do with your mishap. It might just be the camera angle but it looks as though the center column of your tripod is nowhere near vertical or plumb in some of the video. Having had several near misses myself, I try to avoid this as much as possible as as slight bump can cause the whole thing to tip over with disastrous results. Also I have found that setting the tripod with one leg downhill and two legs uphill makes the the tripod more stable. This way the center of gravity of the camera and tripod is not as near the edge to the triangle formed by the tripod legs. Cheers and thank you for the great videos!

Hi Henry, another grand day out and thanks for sharing. Lovely ethereal images, right place, right time makes all the difference .. not to mention having having some real skill behind the Z7. So sorry to hear about the wounded soldier, hopefully a better outcome than the long lamented D7200. Can't help but think that with a ding like that on both the lens and the OM5, that's going to be expensive. But it is so easily done!!! Commiserations to your wallet! If I might offer a suggestion, the tripod in the video didn't look the most stable I've ever seen, get it level and maybe try hanging something from the middle to lower the centre of gravity even if its not windy ... even if you take an empty bag on a bit of string, you could fill it with any old rubbish at your location ( like the rocks in my head ) to save carrying extra weight on your hikes. It's that (H)en(RY)thusiasm tripping you up a bit mate ... but really appreciated by your viewers. Hope the OM5 gets better soon!
