ONSHAPE FOR LIFE! I used fusion briefly for some small project before, but switched to solidworks bc my friends who helped me get the first antweight together were solidworks purists. Since then, they have all converted to onshape after building a 250lb sponsored by onshape, and i made the switch too after losing a beetleweight CAD to corrupted files.

Nah they do. Initially the drum on V2 was printed on a 0.4mm nozzle and immediately chipped when testing. In the actual competition i swapped it for one printed with a 0.8mm nozzle and it lasted like 4 fights

For real! And at least i'm not the only one to make this mistake. I'm still somewhat surprised thus was able to happen given all the hubbub over USB killers.

i add myself to the gang! fried hdd and serial capabilities on usb but laptop was fine, luckily it was an old one but that's why i put an extra diode on my custom esp pcb for robot combast, i don't want 3s to go into my pc usb ever again

Aye, nearly done that myself as well, dumped 12V directly into the my laptop's USB port. However, and somehow, either the USB port had some safety protection system or my reaction time was fast enough to unplug it before it caused permanent damage, but my computer somehow survived. My work didn't because the computer instantly shut down when I plugged in the ESP32 but I'm just happy that I still have a working laptop. Lesson learned, unplug any external power supply from the microcontroller before plugging it into the computer. Also, don't upload code at 3AM. On an slightly unrelated note, don't try computer repairs at 3AM either. Dropped a screwdriver and fried whatever controlled the backlight of the LCD on the very same laptop and I thought I killed it... until it decided, "nah I'll live", and miraculously came back to life like nothing ever happened. I... don't know how that laptop is still working, there was a SMD on the motherboard that's now just a burnt smudge... but it still works? Somehow? It's just, built different I guess. idk.

NO WAY! It's awesome to be acknowledged by someone who has handled Sgt Cuddles! And yea i have had issues of ground clearance - you can see in the v1 fight the robot is barely driving. Also I didn't show it but the my v2 had an earlier chassis iteration where it basically didnt drive due to both ground clearance and the wheels being all the way in the back, behind both the battery AND the drum. I have destroyed that chassis in my first test of the fixed version

Nunchuk is drive, B is 1/3 weapon throttle, A is 2/3 weapon throttle, A+B is max weapon throttle. The wiimote itself only has an accelerometer, so anything more than waggle controls are infeasible with the amount of effort i was willing to put in (even then i struggled to get super fine control). Wii motion plus adds a gyro for actually usable tilt controls. I should figure out how to use it...

THAT MAKES SO MUCH SENSE! What you're describing is basically what happened. I didn't show it, but in that final grudge where the drum split, the same thing happened where it died and couldn't accept input. We opened the box, power cycled, and just as you described, it came back to life.

If an electrical engineer can do this then an infosec person can do it too - 3d printing is super easy to get into so long as you don't touch anything with the words "creality" and "ender3"

@@KylesMaybeElectricalStuff oh, I'm already knee deep in 3D printing (built my own RepRap Prusa Mendel over a decade ago 🥴, had a stint with an Ender 3 Pro that still produces decent results, but my X1 Carbon is my daily driver these days), it's just translating it to functional designs that would hold up in a fight is where I'm less confident. 😅 I can do very basic stuff in Fusion 360, but it's still an uphill battle for me at the moment. Regardless, I appreciate the encouragement and maybe I'll be fighting you in robot combat in a decade when I finally get the knack for it! 🤣

Plastic antweights don't drive particuarly well compared to other weight classes, at least the ones i've seen. But also what you are describing is a control bot those do exist

Someone made a library to do this which I used, though it takes a small modification to get it to work. I keep meaning contribute my fix to github but I keep forgetting to github.com/hrgraf/ESP32Wiimote

Im completely new with no experience and have an arduino laying around. Do you think the bluetooth module would worK or is the esp good? I dont have a arduino bluetooth module and all my parts are savaged. I'd really appreciate a reply.

I keep meaning contribute my fix to github but I keep forgetting to github.com/hrgraf/ESP32Wiimote The ESP32, in my experience, is not able to handle pretty harsh conditions (i.e. combat robotics), so I'm working on a different solution using ELRS, but it's still a bit immature to talk about here. That being said, I can still recommend it for most other things. Some folks use ESP32s to control 3lb combat robots at NHRL with xbox controllers and such, so I might just be bad at this.

Iirc the merge scope of sone early feature was out of wack so one of the uprights was a separate body from the rest of the chassis. At the time I had no idea merge scope was a thing so I just added that feature there to fix it.
