This is a really interesting idea. I don't know if it was a weird dream or did I see this in a video, but my idea was to have the second camera facing up into the teleprompter. Usually scenes have light coming from above so this may solve some of the unwanted light reflecting off the top side of a teleprompter.

7:29 that cut between the 2 relatively similar shots is such a classic edit. I know it was purely you toggling the layers for a demonstration, but it was a really nice cut. And since its all 1 take from 1 operator, its flawless and more natural for the subject. I think that alone could make this rig worth it for certain situations.

Definitely more practical to shoot in higher resolution and crop in in post. Even when you want slow motion, it’s easier to shoot in HFR and apply motion blur in post. With this setup, you can’t switch your focal length on the main camera, without rearranging everything. And for run and gun setups, you should definitely use a zoom lens.

Something that would help with the reflections is putting some cinefoil around the top of the teleprompter and phone lens like a hood. You'll still have to worry about glare and internal reflections on the glass, but the actual reflection of the phone won't be nearly as noticeable. And since cinefoil is basically just fancy tinfoil, it's really easy to maneuver where you need it.

Well that's cool ! Appreciate someone did that ! However in the field I feel like it might be more cumbersome than anything, as the iPhone footage is only really a backup footage (even though it might sometimes be useful to have it) and the rig isn't that practical at all, heavier, more prone to failure, twice the number of SSDs... And now with the new Blackmagic Cinema Camera you can change frame rate to slow motion with a single button, and use a zoom lens, to solve 90% of the problem this solves... Tis cool someone has done it though, might be useful, thanks ! And I understand it was hard (another downside by the way), so deserved a like.

the 12k on the ursa isn't great. its got great 8k though. What I mean is shooting 1080p with any camera is much much better than taking a 12k ursa shot and digitally zooming until its 1080p, that framing it looks very very bad. 8k down to 1080p is good.

I think the best middleground is to shoot 50fps at 1/50, that way you can cut it to 25fps if needed normal speed and have slow motion, Sure it's blurrier but that's better than choppy. (same would go with 48fps to 24fps... or heck, 60 to 30)

If a GoPro is using the full sensor (super-wide angle) on battery in a stand still situation it can overheat. Using less of the censor and external power will both help prevent overheating. So a shoulder mount rig can run power to the extra camera without issue.

Heya DSLRguide! Great vid, I love the concept. I felt like giving a little constructive criticism so if you're open to it: I think the video could have benefitted from introducing the stakes you mentioned at 1:30 (you wanting to get this working for an upcoming shoot in order to get the perfect shot) earlier in the video, maybe even in the intro. Just from a storytelling POV, imo introducing the idea and stakes first and THEN telling us about the inspiration (teleprompter) and the problem you're solving (wanting to a slo-mo version of an already recorded shot) would have made for a stronger hook. As an industrial designer, I'm already interested in this project anyway, however having that strong story hook could help with capturing more of an audience who maybe wouldn't instinctively be interested in the technical aspect of the project, but would stay for the story and 'drama'. That said, these are my unsolicited €0.02 and I don't intend to come off as "I know better about video-making than you do".

Filming an Samsung Ad with an iPhone is King hahhahaha but what I don't understand why the center points have to be aligned perfectly? If you cut between two angels it could be off and there would be no problem or?

Good job, btw you don't need ND filter when you shoot slow motion.

you should have bought a big shield against backlighting like on all those expensive cameras or expensive monitors.

If it was possible to sync (genlock would be perfect) two identical cameras with the same lenses, beamsplitter could be used to create HDR Footage with more than 16-17 stops of dynamic range.

Cool idea. Question about T9 drive - does it get slower as you fill it up? I currently use T7 Shield, and when it gets half full, I have to wait around 10 seconds until I can start shooting. And that wait time increases as the drive fills up more. I'm also using bmpcc 4k.

You could in principle shoot with multiple lenses on the phone using double take from filmic.

do you know if you can do one with slowmotion using double take?

@@DSLRguide I just checked it s max 4k 30fps on iPhone. Android might have other options.

Very cool project, enjoyed watching these type of experiments. Question, why not shoot everything in 60fps then just cut on a 24p timeline and adjust your footage speed when you need slow-mo. (it's called Automatic speed in FCPX, idk if Premiere can do this, I assume it can) For your close ups you can shoot wide in 4k then punch in whenever you need it.

the shutter speed would be choppy on the footage that isn't slowed down - which is a big problem for me. I can appreciate the choppy look if i'm using it on purpose, but i'd hate to be forced to use it, so I built this rig haha

Totally interesting topic, having two framings of the same shot and action. But thats where a my question comes up: what do you frame really? Do you frame the close up and just hope that the wide shot is "okayish" or do you frame the wide shot in trade that the close up might be bad? Perhaps you can load some guidelines on your monitor to help you frame both shots at the same time?!

I was framing the closeup and trusting that the wide would work too, cos I hadn’t thought of using a marker on the wide angle’s monitor, that would be ideal! Thanks for the idea, I might reconfigure and try that
