Hey everyone back with another Scrap Mechanic video! Today we are rebuilding a piston powered wheel except this time making it massive to crush robots! A lot of people have asked to see how effective this vehicle would be in survival so I decided to try it out against some bots!

Instead of changing angles, or cutting platforms further, You could have them very wide in the center, but thinner outside, So it slopes to a smaller size

If only Scrap Mechanic had the super long angle blocks like they use for aerodynamics in Trailmakers. That roller would look awesome!

Would two rows of pistons with a wasd converter work for steering? Might take a lot of logic to get it to work smoothly with the forward movement, but would be stronger.

The platforms need to be narrow only at the edges. You can make them "oval" in shape and allow higher steering angles without sacrificing too much "crushing surface" in the middle.

You only need to make the platforms narrower at the tips to improve your steering angle. Also, sensors, suspensions, buckets boots and hands all have 7 friction, whereas cactus only has 6, so any of them would make better grip plates, though cactus does have a certain meme-value to it.

It might be worth putting a suspension glitch for rotating The Roller™ quickly. I think it would also be cool if you used a less heavy block for the center wheel and put bubble blocks on the ends to turn it into a water vehicle. Also, your cactuses weren't touching the ground most of the time. I personally have never played Scrap Mechanic, but I've been watching your channel for some time now, so I kind of understand the logistics behind it, so I can't really offer much advice. However, I do think that you could make the piston that is at an angle behind the seat extend more at launch in order to get a better and quicker start by adding a controller. Great video and I hope you continue to make amazing content!

Instead of bearings, wire up pairs of pistons near the outside edges of the panels, with a small piston attached to each and a switch, so that when you press the button, the one side gets longer.
@orangespuddy7118
@orangespuddy7118 3 жыл бұрын
You could make it have 12 pistons instead of 8 with 30 degree increments to make it start up faster I think and also shift the weight in the center to assist steering. If you do implement it in survival it would definitely be beneficial to add some protection to vital parts (seat, pistons, etc.) and some chests in the center. The platforms could also be made thinner on the ends to allow for greater turning angles. Possibly self-righting mechanisms if you fall on your side.
@edskev7696
@edskev7696 3 жыл бұрын
For better turning, you could taper the 5 wide plates to be 3 wide near the edges, that way the wheel is stable and you can have sharper turning
@maikelclaassen2154

I think speed and better steering is more usefull than weight. Just hit and run. And also maybe dubble up the pistons and have a set of pistons on each side of every platform so you can tilt the platform with activating 1 piston on a side to steer. And have the pistons behind the steering pistons activate to push. You know what i mean.

Suggestion: Swap front edge of each foot for the row of cactus plants instead of having them down a block in the back of foot. When rolling with speed it's like a person running, they use the ball/toes to grip and move, they don't run with their heels...

If the speed was any lower, it would have most likely not move at all, and if you did somehow manage to get to speed, they will flop a lot. That is obvious in Scrapman's video from about a week or so ago where he made a car with extendable wheels.

Also, the Haybots are generally less laggy-er than the greenies. Or whatever their names actually are. Example: If you can have 10 Green bots and your FPS drops down from 60 to 30, you can have 15-20 of the yellow bots before it drops from 60 to 30 FPS.

I think a weight that moves with the wheel would make it move much better. Think of a steam train wheel, the ones that have a weight on one side... Imagine that inside where you sit that is connected with a bearing so it turns constantly offsetting the weight to the front.

Khan you should include flywheels with the design it will gain momentum faster and maybe you can turn the machine even faster using two flywheels rotating in opposite direction , and you are not using the cacti optimally because they are not touching the ground everytime. Maybe you should put cacti on either side of the foot of the machine.

I feel like you might get more grip out of the cacti if they were on the front edge of the platforms, cause when the platforms push back they are pushing on the front edge and the cacti are just hanging uselessly off the back. I understand they are the first thing to hit the ground, but if you're using them for friction, I feel like the front edge might be more useful.

kAN! I know you love pistons engines so here's an idea for you. Can you get a powerful enough piston engine in a heavy enough vehicle to move it fast enough to plow over bots? Can piston power compare up? Also, I don't know if you knew this, because I didn't, but fertilizer can now be dispensed via vacuum pumps and large chests. So you can throw that into your mix of auto farming. It's just the replenishment would require you to constantly be farming carrots, red beets, and tomatoes.

use 2 single bearings and build it like a vibration motor, as the bearings would rotate, they would try to lift a weight around, as it would be eccentric, this would roll the machine forward. like a rain drop shape on either side, the pointy ends connected to the cylinder through a bearing. steering would be like a tank(in not sure about this part, you could use the same steering as on this machine) I'll try building the raindrp drive later, but i would like your opinion on this too
