I Already cried my Eyes out when the Eclispe burned down... I hope your shop is Safe, please take a look at that Nice video as always ive seen you prgress from crappy Mx5 to Extremely well built EJ20 swap monster! You could add a speed controller for the fan. And then you might be able to turn the fan around to create the positive pressure.

Positive pressure system is the way to go in my opinion. It will save you a lot of time. No need to worry about leaks, no need to seal doors every time you want to paint parts. With the negative pressure dust will always find the way in especially in a storage unit like this.

PAINT GUNS! Speaking from experience here ( painted over 1000 vehicles) The paint gun you use when just starting doesn't matter. Harbor Freight's $15 1.4mm paint gun is a great option because it will teach you how to have a steady hand that a higher-end paint gun will just cover up. This will make you a much better painter in the long run and once you know more about how to paint it will make finding the righ high end paint gun a lot more obvious for your specific needs.
@Chris0

I know the black paint looks cool, but if you repaint the walls white, your lights will be much more effective. You'd also benefit from quadrupling your filtered intake surface area, which will also reduce the plastic bubble effect on your doors. As far as a good entry spray gun, I really like using my Sharpe FX3000 with a 1.3mm tip. It sprays base, clear, sealer, single stage all great. And a cheap purple gun from Harbor Freight works well for spraying primer and coatings that get sanded down. Love your content, keep up the good work!

i work in commercial/film. Absolutely correct. But I can tell you from reading the comments, there's like a >10% chance he will actually paint them white primarily because he thinks the black is cool. His shop 🤷🏾‍♂ , lead a horse to water.... He's also using a really inefficient light to light that space. A row of leds or even some fluorescents with a large white sheet of framed diffusion to soften and bounce the light around a white room would do everything.

You should definitely look into getting some roll on adhesive flooring. A lot of shops use it to trap dirt and dust from flying around. Once it gets old you pull it up and re-roll some new sheets on! Definitely helps with dust/dirt nibs in the paint!

Place a regulator at the gun no matter where else you have one. You will need a lot more air movement. I’ve built a few hobbyist booths and with that setup the clear coat fog is going to murder your soul. My last setup had 4 box fans and it wasn’t enough. Smaller room than yours too.

Blue tape is for paint masking and not leaving a residue, it's great if you use it for what it's made for. Usually you paint over it, not put pressure behind it. That is what duct tape is for, but it leaves a huge mess.

Should check out Paint Society videos geared towards DIY painting, specifically the ones showing Brian’s at home setup. There should be hard lines in some sort of coil or up/down/up/down setup to ensure all water and dirt stays out of the line. Hose reels are a big no no for painting. You need a single hose draped on the floor. Need WAY more filter area, including filters on the exhaust. To help keep dust down, spray water all over the floor just prior to starting a paint project. Tons of tips are out there. Paint Society is a good place to start.

Use a 12mm fiber reinforced plastic and add a Zipperwall zipper to it. the 12mm reinforced would allow you to secure it to the door frames more securely and the zipper system, one down the middle and one across the tops would allow it to be rolled up and tucked away. done things like this a lot doing concrete refinishing/ polishing and it works very well. Might need to tape up the zippers if there is enough negative pressure, but just a suggestion! Looks amazing!

Love the videos, but that booth is just asking for trouble when you start using clear. You are going to have a huge amount of fume build up. Combine that with all of the electrical connections, non explosion proof fan motor, and non sealed lights, and you really are asking for an explosion. I hope you reconsider before getting that far. Also, if you are going to use that fan, put a filter over it to save it from buildup on the blades. As for paint gun, try out the black widow from harbor freight.

Dude this room came out sick!!! One thing I thought of though was to maybe put a filter on the fan as well to maybe prolong the life of it. Also, why not do a canvas like roll to go above the garage doors. Then maybe run Velcro or snap buttons along the frame of the garage door to secure the canvas sheet. That way you have a reusable sheet, easy to roll up and down to allow access, and the canvas is heavy enough to not get pulled by the negative pressure.

Hey man, a little tip for keeping dust down and saving your booth floors from getting paint build up. At home depot you can get the rolls of roofing tar paper. Its cheap and works great. I use it in my booths at work and love it. It's heavy enough to not flap everywhere when spraying, its slightly sticky so when dust lands on it it sticks, its thick enough where I usually get around 60-70 cars painted on it. Roll it out and cut to the shape on the room overlap 50% to its twice as thicc and use some nice duct tape on all the seams. Also you can get the rubber garage door seals to put on the inside sides of the doors. If you ever have questions on doing high end or easy cheap paint jobs feel free to message. I would also look into a devilbiss DV1 for a basecoat spraygun and a Anest Iwata ws-400 for a nice clearcoat spraygun these two mixed allows you to get that glassy mirrored finish. looking like a nice clean setup dude, good job.
@nunx8cat

for the problem with the doors, maybe you could try to get some sort of fabric, add a zipper , half zipper in the piece of fabric and the other to de contour of the door. and then just zipped in when you want to paint.

You're gonna want a positive pressure setup. Negative pressure will make sure that unfiltered (dusty) air will get into the booth. Positive pressure makes sure that only air that's been filtered (clean) gets into the booth, and pushes all the dusty air out.

I honestly think it would be worth the time and effort making it a positive pressure booth. With how large and leaky the doors are, and the small size of the booth, it'd be extremely beneficial and much easier in the long-run with a positive pressure setup. All you'd have to do is swap the filter on the induction fan occasionally and you're good.

Epic work as always! Your filters are undersized, you want a maximum speed of 1 m/s through the filters, the lower the better. Will alleviate the air being pulled through the doors...Still, positive pressure is the correct way of doing this

You should really try to seal the roll up doors on the outside. Maybe put some pool noodles around some 2X4’s and prop it up around the edges of the doors on the outside? That way the negative pressure is working for you and not against you. Just a suggestion.

I’m not a spray painter but have helped with prepping numerous projects over the years as well as watched how it’s done.

Amazing Space! One thing that will really help reduce the negative pressure is if you put in more inlets like you did between the shop and booth. At least 1 if not 2 more above, then change it so they slide in from the side. Great idea with the 2x4 and plastic frame for the door too. I was thinking maybe some kind of zippered plastic, but your idea is likely more simple and cost effective.

Maybe try the plastic on the outside of the doors, so it's held on by tape & the airflow sucking it onto the door will only help. Edit: the spray can technique needs improvement, IMO & I am no painter. If you paint like that, you're sure to get runs. And possibly, consider putting a filter on the fan, so all of the paint doesn't just end up gumming up the fan....

Negative pressure is a bad idea! Why not just have no exhaust fans and a couple fans blowing through a filter into the booth? You don't need a lot of pressure to keep the air in there at a higher pressure than the outside. You would be better with a wet floor and no fans than a room with negative pressure pulling dust in from everywhere. It will pull dust into your paint from all the gaps in the walls and off the ground. Positive pressure will pull the dust away from the center of the room, where you are painting.

For paint guns I personally would look at the anest iwata, Devilbiss tekna pro lite (I personally have this) the Devilbiss dv1. Anything Devilbiss is a good move in my opinion.

For the paint gun, Id get the 3m gun kit. It is 3m 26778. Its one gun but you can change the tips out to have many different size sprayer. Goes all the way up too a 2.0 for some really thick high build primer. Ive been using it for the past year for my small projects and its a pretty good gun for how much it cost. No need to get a 1k gun for just the hobbyist.

You could try plastic shower curtains for the doors, that's what my dad and I used to make a makeshift paint booth in our garage. You might be able to find somebody local to sew zippers all the way around them too, that way you can just zip them on and off and not bother with tape failing all the time

Cut a second filter inlet in the wall. Itll help cut down on the door leaks. Or plastic the outside while the fane is on and itll help hold it inplacr

Should use rivets for that hose reel, the threads will loosen after a while especially with all the movement from pulling the hose
