I Built Insane 2wd Fatbike

Once I decided to build 2wd bicycle and faced the callenge. It wasn't that easy I expected but after few weeks 2wd bike works. All needed parts I found in old hand drill and some of them borrowed in a bike store 😁
The constuction might have some issues that need to be improved. But it's working prototype of all wheel drive bicycle. 🙂

@@echtraymond9936 the coolest part isnt that it's unnecessary or anything, it's that your wheels are synchronized, so you retain your shifting with the rear wheel, you don't have to shift a handcycle style pedal system up front or anything. And he didn't have to lose brakes to do it. I've seen half a dozen AWD bikes out there, and this is probably the best/simplest I've seen, and it only used derailleurs, as opposed to expensive recumbent idler systems.

@maclarenstevenson
@maclarenstevenson 3 жыл бұрын
Proboabalynwould have just slowed it down because of the extra weight especially because it is weight that you have to move The thing that it would be good for is losing grip for example when you are climbing up a muddy hill and your back wheel spins this bike might be better in cases like that but due to the extra weight who knows
@Angelo.barleystini
@Angelo.barleystini 3 жыл бұрын
Although it's a great feat and enjoyable to watch, I believe it to be almost useless. The grip on the front tire is typically an order of magnitude lower than the one on the back tire, as most of the time you put your weight on the back wheel while cycling. No weight, no adherence, no traction. This might change if you're going downhill, then the weight can be put on the front tire, but then you won't need 2wd as gravity is more than enough. Instead, 4wd on cars works because the engine is quite heavy and it's put on the front, and although the suspension work while accelerating tends to shift the load on the back tires, the engine weight allows a good amount of traction on the front tires also. Edit. Maybe, just maybe, it could work going uphill if he had put a very big gear on the front wheel, that way by leaning forward you could transfer enough torque and weight to make it stick to the ground and actually have traction.
@BA500
@BA500 3 жыл бұрын
How about climb a hill i'm not sure. But it is definitely better at dry sand. Interesting how it would work with standard not fat tires 🧐
@maclarenstevenson
@maclarenstevenson 3 жыл бұрын
@@Angelo.barleystini It would still make a difference when climbing up a steep hill on gravel or mud because any little bit of traction up front can potentially get enough grip to keep the bike moving forward and therefore also maybe not losing traction in the back wheel

That steering chain flex with derailers was a great solution. I might have been inclined to figure 8 a drive belt driving a horizontal crown wheel.. But wires to a front and rear hub motor hub would be my choice for simplicity, speed of build, but not cost.

It won’t give more power, but it will give more grip. For all the situations were you spun the rear wheel of a bicycle due to low grip… Yeah, no, it’s pointless. Awesome work, love it! Maybe it would have been easier to put a chainring on the left pedal to transfer power to the front wheel. That would be a shorter path, although I'm not 100% sure it would work.

Great idea and fabrication! Only issue I see is that when you're turning, the rear wheel will rotate less than the front which may cause some issues. An added freewheel ratchet on the front might help when it rotates more than the rear?

@frankunderwood8357
@frankunderwood8357 2 жыл бұрын
@@noomfy-mopkebab3632 No, because the front is connected to the opposite side of the back wheel in relation to the crank and gear sprockets. Free wheeling should work the same as before regardless of if the back wheel is driven faster than the pedals by the front wheel or just the ground itself. Unless I am missing something important.
