How I made real life Mantis Blades from Cyberpunk 2077(15.2 views on Tiktok)! Multiple motors, LEDs and sensors help my Mantis Blades become a total eyecatcher fashion piece. I already wore these to a Cosplay convention, and it was a camera-magnet!
They’re intuitive and super fun to use. I go over how and why I chose to build this version, as well as the most important details of the process - with a reveal at the end. I hope you guys like it!

This is absolutely beautiful. Just learning to mix LEDs and 3D printing myself and its honestly the best hobby ever :D Can't imagine how much time you've spent mastering your craft.

I came up with a 3D printed diffuser ring for my NeoPixel rings. It's two pieces that I glue together to make a donut / sandwich shape. Printed in clear PLA, you can get some really cool diffusion effects (regular diffusion, 'lines', etc.) by changing the fill %.

I've been trying to make them myself out of paper (cheaper idea I know), but I was stuck at the mechanism due to how flimsy it was and couldn't think of a way to solve it until I saw this 4:39. That gave me a great idea that I will try soon! Thanks a lot!

Those are so awesome! I think I would have spent more time trying to trim them down so they could fit underneath the sleeve of a jacket or hoodie, then cut the sleeves to make them more concealable and surprising to an observer. Same with the lights, I think I'd set them to turn on when not in the resting retracted position. Perhaps your first linkage in the arm could sit to the sides of your arm, and if you could find a way to make the blade rotate 90 degrees as it extends. Either way, this is totally something I'd wear to a con.

You could also add a spring mechanism to lock the shell halves, like medieval vambraces. Check them out, they're very similar to the solution you came up with.

I would love to see a more compactable version of these, like ones that can fold, but pretty thin so that you can hide them under a sleeve comfortably or even go over your whole arm to hide under a sleeve, maybe be designed after the ones from that 2013 trailer, i would totally buy a pair of those for a cosplay

Good job would love to see these with extendable blades like in game how the actual blades extend when blocking then retract when you stop.

I messed around with prototypes actually. Another reason I went with the glowing blades instead of the telescoping metal ones was the inability to contract them - spring loaded mechanisms kinda need to be "reloaded" with hands, which ruined the impression too much 😁 and any way to reliably automate it both ways was too heavy for the motors to swing around like the static ones

@@PBST_RAIDZ Kind of. These are meant to be wearable in conventions without much hassle. This mechanism could easily handle another 10cm or so of blade length, but that would impair the use of hands, opening doors, etc. :D So it was just a tradeoff. I made the mechanism highly modular and I will make multiple swappable blades - so if I really wanna go huge, I can, in the future :D
