Annie, someone steered wrong. Metal is a thermal conductor. it has a negative R value. This means its a thermal bridge negating roughly half your insulation once you exposed it. I strongly suggest contacting a spray foam insulation company and getting those trusses encapsulated.

It looks like a great property and an exciting project. I’m happy for you. I wish you nothing but the best and hope it all goes great. I do have to say, I understand why you wanted to remove the insulation off those beams. It does look a little better that way. But they were covered for a reason. By removing the insulation, you just removed the thermal break preventing those massive steel beams from acting like radiant heat conduits pumping heat into that shop. They will retain and radiate heat far more than any of the metal sheeting would have, even behind drywall. If you know anyone with a thermal imaging gun, have them come over and scan the ceiling and walls on a hot day. I’m sure it will be eye-opening, especially compared to the beams you didn’t touch. It will cost a lot more to cool the building and you’re still likely to have several hotspots. It’s not uncommon to struggle to find a balance that’s comfortable. It will either be too hot or too cold in certain areas. Because the AC units will be running far more frequently to fight the incoming heat, not only will you have to buy more electricity, but it will also shorten the usable life of the AC units. You may want to consider something like LizardSkin heat barrier spray (not affiliated) to try to create a little bit of a break. I don’t think it will make up for the loss of insulation, but it would be better than bare metal. Plus, it’s already black. AC units are expensive. You will not be happy when it comes time to have to replace all those. Other than that, I’m not sure what you can do about it now. But I thought you should know. Good luck.

Yes plywood is harder but way more durable than drywall in a shop. With ply you can attach items anywhere on the walls. Drywall you’d better have a build in header other wise. Blacks not the best for filming. You could have reused all the ply you were tearing out. Scraping off the insulating might look nice but not good for engery efficacy.
@AXMGarage
@AXMGarage Ай бұрын
Honestly wish I thought of that sooner but luckily In the inner office area the previous owner put plywood behind the drywall so that he can drill anywhere into the wall, which is perfect since I want to hang my batteries organizational wall panels there!

You are doing a killer job. So much done in just two weeks! Don't feel weak about the drywall sheets. They are awkwardly big which makes them tough to move around. It is more skill/technique than muscle. Is the white vinegar pest trick working to keep the bugs/spiders out? Looking forward to the next video..

Thanks for all the positive feedback! Really appreciate the support!! As for the white vinegar, it worked AMAZING! I called out pest guys to come spray the property but didn’t see much of a change, until I tried the white vinegar and it almost instantly lowered the bug count by up to 80%. I definitely recommend!
