But of advice. Don't use chicken wire just because it's cheap. Use the more expensive hardware cloth that predators can't just reach through. Don't forget that predators can also dig up under things too. So if it's on the ground you might put a layer between the ground & the cats. If I were you I'd consider starting with a smaller catio to test the waters. It can take cats a bit to actually use things. I recommend drugs I mean catnip spray to encourage them. But when you plan out the smaller catio I'd plan for it to be easily expanded in size by adding more to it. But take anything I say with a grain of salt & research. Because I've watched various videos of different animal containment shelters. But I've never gotten around to trying to build one on my apartment porch yet. Downstairs apartment porch. Although I could put a taller one outside my bedroom window. I don't think management would like it. Also I'm lazy. I do ideas more than follow through. Still come up with some doozies though. Occasionally. Fly free my little idea birdies. Fly free & annoy people. Good luck & enjoy building with your dad.

@@Nirrrina We put strong rocks at the bottom of our catio in the inside and out to prevent digging and predators.

It a started with Stormy Barn Cat (rip) She was responsible for turning me into a cat guy. They do great work on the farm with the rodents too. Love these cats, I’d do anything for them.

Only thing missing was a "floor." They'll use the dirt floor for a cat box, even though you have one for them. Some cats don't like to use a litter box once it has been used!

Yes thanks so much. I think the cats are getting trained too cause it's a bit easier to get them in now. Sometimes even in the day when they are out hunting they go back in there by themselves to have a nap lol.

I was going to add screening but decided to use expansion foam so the tree can grow a bit, but eventually I'll have to make the hold bigger as the tree grows. Thanks for the comment.

Aww thanks and welcome to the farm. I had lived most of my life thinking I was a dog guy, but these cats have shown me just how wrong I was. They're both awesome.

I agree, Mj6962. If you live int he wilds or outdoor rural communities or on a farm, the normal dogs and cats CAN'T SURVIVE or compete with big predators or wolves or Bobcats, etc. The dog should not be in an outside "doghouse" at night. the cats love going outside, sometimes at night, but that activity is safer in a suburbs, not in a rural, wild farm community or near the big outdoors.

Thank you so much 😀 Glad you have found us. I had to make the hard decision to keep the cats locked up at night and I felt really bad cause I know they don't like it. At least having this play area it'll make it easier on them. They are our family and we love them so much.

It is wonderful to watch him build things. I enjoyed that part especially because my dad was a carpenter. I miss him but seeing this master builder brought me much happiness. The animals too. Smile
