FYI your canards are actuating the wrong way for pitch. They make the aircraft slide down more instead of pitching the edges upwards for more turn rate. I guess great minds think alike because you used almost the exact same layout as an X-34 which had maneuverability in mind to test the tip-stalling of the wings. Looks sick! From afar I couldn’t tell them apart but the tail makes them distinct, as well as the fact that yours actually has control surfaces going outwards of the trailing edge box. EDIT: I get the canards pitching down so you don’t stall now. Thx for replies.

3:35 Robotjox is a early 90s movie in which in the future nations have giant robots reprecenting them fight each other and whoever wins has their nation win land and money. In the movie the main character loses the fight and his robot falls on top of a stand filled with people watching the fight at the arena. The funniest thing is that all the people that go to see the fights live sign a paper saying they agree their lives might be at risk. Later on the main character feels bad about all the people he crushed by accident but everyone he talks to tells him not to worry because they signed the paper and just to ignore it.

All you would need is some standard receivers and emitters attached to various places on the craft and a pretty standard augmented reality software plugged into the HUD. Do it over a big body of water that's closed to boats for the competition and its pretty safe. Would be interesting but very expensive!

Well, one way to deal with the g-force issues in a crewed aircraft would be to go with a prone pilot design. Human tolerance to g-forces in the eyeballs-out (pulling positive g with a prone pilot) direction is a bit over twice what it is for the same duration in the eyeballs-down (pulling positive g with a normally seated pilot) direction. But of course, you can't do that in Flyout (yet) either.

About your competitive dog fighting idea, I was also thinking about how that would be. It would be so fun to have that but at the same time very dangerous. So I thought of some rules in my restless nights where I'm just too busy thinking. 1. Aircraft "weapons" are lasers that shoot out of the nose in a cone in front of the aircraft. The lasers will simulate how the speed of the aircraft and the speed of the other aircraft will affect the bullets flying. So you will still have to lead when shooting. 2. The floor will be 500 ft 3. The "missiles" just fireworks I'm still thinking about it, but I'd love to hear what other people have to say, correcting me or adding their own things.

RC dogfighting has existed for decades, and you cut a ~30ft long paper streamer taped to the tail of each other's plane with the prop of your plane. There's a time limit, and the one with the longest streamer at the end wins. It's laugh-until-you-cry fun. You build really simple planes out of cheap foam board and cheap electronics because there WILL be carnage, lol. There's also cheap laser tag-type systems with "hits", like lives remaining that show up in a heads up display in your FPV goggles. Putting those systems in EDF RC jets is about the closest you can get without ending up on a terrorist watch list lol!

Curiously, I actually had an idea for a very similar setting, where dogfighting is turned into a sport. The base idea was that it was post-WW3 and the UN has evolved into a proper governing body by getting the monopoly on violence. Conflicts between nations are thusly not allowed to be carried out through war, but only diplomacy and competition. Dogfighting is one of those competitions, with a multitude of classes available for countries to compete in and wager their conflicts over. (Yes, I did watch Robot Jox not too long before coming up with this) The classes were BVR/Hypersonic, BVR/Supersonic, Dogfight/Supersonic, Dogfight/Subsonic, and Dogfight/Propeller. BVR allowed the use of missiles for combat, pretty much the only way Hypersonic combat can be carried out, while Dogfight is raw brawling and guns only. The aircraft in general were even more wild and out there than you have gone for here, with 2:1 mass ratios, 1:1 T/W reverse thrusters allowing the aircraft to essentially hover in the air nose down, full 3D thrust vectoring, all-moving wings, cockpits embedded into the fuselage with screens instead of a canopy, liquid breathing and full body liquid immersion. Even the "small" and nimble DF/SubSon aircraft were the size of an airliner, only increasing as speed and capabilities ramped up. So yeah, kinda going where you're going here but turned up all the way to 11.

The dogfight challenge is a wonderfull idea! Though maybe it would be better to make this an general fighting challenge, as this could create a meta with bigger variety than trying to make the most maneuverable plane in existence. Maybe someone would drop their maneuverability for speed and power, which would allow them to climb and run away from the more nimble opponent. Maybe someone would make a plane with massive fuel tanks, so they could chase after their enemy until they're out of range. For classes, I propose to base them on the historical development of aerial machines: - Class 1920-1930: Biplanes and triplanes, only 1 to 3 small caliber machine guns, weak engines, fixed landing gear, no armour. - Class 1930-1940: The strongest biplanes, early fighter monoplanes. Better engines, some low level armour, fixed or controlable landing gear, flaps, ability to mount small machine guns, 1-3 large caliber machine guns (12.7mm, 14.5mm and so on), ability to mount 1 or 2 20mm cannons with a small amount of ammo. - Class 1940-1945: The best propeller monoplanes out there. Powerfull engines, max speed even around 700 kph. Armored plates and buletproof glass allowed. Small and large caliber machine guns allowed, autocannons up to 30mm allowed, 37mm or 40mm autocannons allowed under the condition of having low rpm and small amount of ammo. - Class 1945-1955: Early jet planes, for example like such aircraft as MiG-15, Me 262, Ho 229, F-100, Sea Vixen. Turboprops and counter-rotating props. Early jet engines without afterburners. No missiles. Early radars allowed for bigger aircraft. 45mm and 57mm autocannons allowed under the condition of having low rpm and small amount of ammo. - Class 1955-1965: Jet fighters like MiG-21 or F-4 Phantom. Radars allowed. Afterburners allowed. Early IR missiles allowed. - Class: 1965-1985: Best of the best. Powerfull engines with afterburners, stealth aircraft, swept wings allowed. IR missiles allowed, but only the early models, in order to make it more fun than just launching the missile and seeing it go boom. Using things allowed for a lower class is permitted, while using things that are allowed for a class above isn't. For example, someone competing in the 1940-1945 class could make a triplane (class 1920-1930) with a powerfull engine, but at the same time they would not be allowed to use counter-rotating props (class 1945-1955) or swept wings (class 1965-1985). - OPEN CLASS: Everything goes, as long as it isn't cheating. Would love to hear your thoughts on this and maybe build a plane for every class, if you feel like it!

Oh no you're not alone... this has always been my favorite kind of thing. Many good memories of ksp's overly forgiving physics, plus a mouse flight mod, plus BD armory. But yeah, the problem is that we already have dogfighting at well beyond even those G forces, that have eliminated the pilot, and just detonate instead of shooting... they're called missiles. But imagine a world with rampant use of EMP or something in conflicts, where even if small electronics for engines and stuff aren't that effected, sensitive instruments like missile guidance, computers, and radar are kind of screwed?

Awesome jet. Would love to see one with variable-sweep wings, if that's at all possible in Flyout.

@messier82ac this design reminded me of the Switchblade concept- would be awesome if you could make it a swing-wing variable like a reverse wing version of the F-14 Tomcat but with 3 primary configurations- wings in for high speed, wings at reverse 45(ish) degree for dogfighting, and wings at maximum width for loitering/max lift. The great thing about a simulator like this is development, maintenance and operation cost is no issue xD

I wonder what an ultra modernized P-51 would look and perform like while still being recognizable as a development from the WW2 era warbird. I know there's the H model and such, but what if it went further? Turbo prop? Variable wing sweep like the F-14? Maybe even further along like a 5th gen with clear lineage to the old bird. Be even cooler if it had a canopy reminiscent of the B and C models. Bubble canopy is obviously superior, but those earlier birds have some good looks. Anyway. Just thinking out loud here. If you take on such a project I'd love to see it. Keep up the awesome vids.

you know they do have dog fight simulations that use ir lasers and people can go and dogfight. basically airborne laser tag. i think "air combat usa" is one place that does it?

The F-16 actually has a reclined seat to increase G tolerance of the pilot. I've seen studies that suggest that a pilot flat on their back may be able to sustain 20 G before the difference in blood pressure between their frontal and parietal lobe causes G out (though not the same redout or blackout that normal pilots face, rather, too much blood in some areas and not enough in others).

Looks like an x-29 with two tails. Both planes were super manuverable at high AOA. the x-29 pioneered the avionics that we use today in our most sophisticated planes.

I'm pretty sure the front of the canards are supposed to point up when the front of the elevators are pointing down in order to give the maximum AOA when pulling up.

The 1st thing I thought of upon seeing the jet is it looked like an F-20 in reverse. By that I mean canard type & forward-swept wings But having round intakes & front fuselage reminds me of the F-104, & at certain angles, the front fuselage reminds me of the A-4 P. S. : *should've implemented the 3d thrust vectoring if you really want the "ultimate dogfighter"*

Years ago (03") I used to play X-Plane, which had an excellent aircraft designer in it. We had a couple of building competitions, F1 reno racers, Unlimited Reno racers, Unlimited reno racers as sea planes and finally, much like your prop punk concept, we did modern fighters, only Turbojets, Turbofans and Turboprops were never invented, so we built modern fighters with piston and rocket engines. All modern electronics, missiles and radar, only difference was prop and rocket only. Perhaps you could give that a try for a building concept?
