5:50 Since I dont care that you don't care I'll explain to the benefit of anyone else what those are, they are called Paravanes, they're a mine sweeping equipment, you basically throw them into the water attached to your ship by a steel cable and tow them around, they fan out while under the water, hopefully their cables will cut any moored mine's anchor cable, so the mine will float to the surface where you can shoot it and destroy it, or slam into the mine destroying it. I'm gonna be real about the photo-etch, I quit model ships because of it, went into model trains, started bending wire for grab irons and ladders and now I photo-etch my own parts because there's like two commercial pantographs that don't look like ass who are prototypical, so yeah there's no escape, I'm convinced photo-etch is just a modelers curse. Love the commentary, subbed.

i used to build warbirds and tanks when i was kid, even in my 20s i could not handle photo-etch, i just stuck with wargaming when i build models, and stick with games workshops shitty detailed badly fitting overpriced models when i feel like building something and then just make them look nice with my Gigachad level paint skills. But now i just 3D print stuff cause GW prices are fucking crazy even on second hand shops now, $75 for a leman russ tank? its not even worth $30, fuck you GW....what was a saying? oh right fuck photo-etch, but really fuck GW

Upon watching your video, I really started thinking that I should probably narrate mine using more curse words... It's truly liberating... I enjoyed the narration... I also have a relationship with capilary reacrion, but the b*** insists on overflowing everywhere, so I asked for a divorce... Very good construction and yes.. even though I've used detailed photo etched like the Bismark or the Yamato kits Iagree that there's nothing like a good, old 'out of the box' build... Greetings from Portugal."

Thank you! I’ve seen tons of your videos over the years. Your 1/350 Graf Spee specifically got me down the rabbit hole of battleship modeling, which motivated me to buy my first 1/700 ship kits, which were Fujimi’s Kongo and Nagato, following a long period of time in which I felt discouraged from approaching the hobby 😂 I’ve been working up the courage to try some full PE sets, but out of the box builds are indeed good fun

@@BoxmanBuilds being very honest and looking back, that Graff Spee was kind of horrible... But i had tremendous fun and loved to film it! I have the same kit here but with all "Formula 1", PE sets and wood decks and stuff! Also build the yamato but the Tamyia one. However the 1:700 Bismarck i did i really loved that one! Im kind of enjoying wood ships for now but watching you build these makes me look behind my shoulder to those 11:350s.... Stay safe

If I may offer a little advice on hand-painting, look at how wargaming painters do it. It's not about perfect manual control or magical colour insight, it's a three-step process for each component: basetone, highlight, wash/filter. You tend to do basetone and highlight in a kind of single-pass which results in that kinda blocky look. For camo on tiny planes etc it's easier to just cut a camo shape out of masking tape and then stipple thinned paint until it looks right, makeup sponges or random bits of foam are good for this. If you're painting a silver gun barrel or prop shaft, *don't paint it silver.* I know right? Paint it either gloss black if you want shiny, dark grey for realistic, dark brown for rusted to shit. Then you either drybrush or stipple a tiny tiny amount of unthinned metallic, I personally use a q-tip for this with a miniscule amount of paint. This is literally easier than brushwork and will get you a good result for no effort. Then just wash with a mix of dark brown and black, your existing panelliners will work. The brown/black mix is a wargamer's secret trick because it works on almost anything except bright fleshtones. Seriously though subbed, awesome work
