MJ that is THEE Gladys Knight, nicknamed "The Empress of Soul"!!!! You may have heard of her before but never seen her. One of the many legends that came out of the Motown era. She was in a group called Gladys Knight & The Pips and then a solo artist. You probably heard the song, Midnight Train to Georgia, that's her and The Pips.

To answer the Taraji singing question, Yes Taraji can sing, that was her voice & her saanging. She even showed off her vocals & sang in the newly revamped The color purple movie. She also gave us a taste of her vocals on Hustle & Flow that she stars in with Terrance Howard (Luscious from Empire). As a matter of fact, if you could be so kind as to react to Hustle & Flow🙏 Anywho, she's theatre trained so they do all three, Act, Dance & Sing.😘

This might've been the one time Taraji wasn't singing...I'll double check the credits, but I think it was Cheryl Pepsi Riley, who did a lot of Tyler Perry plays (Cheryl also did the singing for the crackhead mom in Diary of a Mad Black Woman). I remember Taraji saying something about how before The Color Purple, even though she is a triple threat, the talent she's perfected the most is acting, so she wasn't as secure in her singing...lol wild to think about after watching The Color Purple, right?

I've been to one of Gladys's concerts and you are entranced when she sings. Same when she did the Verzuz against Patti LaBelle! One thing to always remember is the show ain't over until you hear Midnight Train to Georgia

This is one of my favourite Tyler Perry movies too! But its important to realise not everyone has a great relationship with their family, April's family dynamic was clearly toxic and the nuance in Taraji's performance when it was revealed that her Mum didn't believe her when she was raped is phenomenal, but heart wrenching and explains why she didn't speak to her for so long.

if you want the drama without comedy taking away from the tragic aspects. i'd recommend the non-Madea movies like Acrimony, A Fall From Grace, Mea Culpa. there's probably others. those are the ones I can think of from the top of my head.

I literally haven’t watched this movie since my grandma passed and coincidentally her name was Rose too. I knew it would be a little triggering to watch this reaction but surprisingly I didn’t react the way I thought I would 😅 I actually laughed way more. Also, I agree with your praying method. MJ I really wish you got a chance to see Oprah's Legends Ball...it was a special she did back in '06 honoring African American women in art, entertainment and civil rights... there are a few clips on youtube, but it was really a spectacle and educational at the same time.

If I was a young teen, left to take care of my little brothers, all the adults in my life suck (incapable of raising me and my siblings), and my the only person we trust is gone- I would be a pissy faced raging B too.
