I'm building my dream home and homestead on 18 acres of raw land that we've developed from scratch! This last year I've been doing all the rough ins to finish up my home before drywall!
This week I'm building two bulkheads/soffits and fixing silly plumbing mistakes and figuring out how to make an exhaust vent work!

Test balls will be your best friend when it comes to pressure testing your plumbing. Glad to see you tackling some of the smaller projects before you start the electrical work! That will test your patience and ability! I’m sure you’ll get it done, but be prepared for some frustration along the way!

You know I can’t count how many times in my life that I have started working on a project of some kind only to realize I did it wrong in some way or other and then have to take it all apart and start over. So what I am saying to you is that it happens to everybody even professionals. The great thing is seeing that you never give up. You are doing a great job and all of us are proud of you. Have a great week and be safe.

Biata, it seems like it was only last week that I was watching you and Craig start clearing the trees from your property, remembering the look of angst and uncertainty on your face because of the undertaking of such a monumental task. Fast forward to today and you using terms like headers, armored wire and 2x3s, which I am certain were such foreign terms back then....from an apprehensive novice to a seasoned tradesman!! Don't ever sell your self short or brush off at what an incredible journey that you have acheived and valuable life lessons that you have learned during this journey! Such an incredible evolution to have watched and in some small way to have been allowed to travel with you on your journey....Bless you and your beautiful family!

There is a blowup plug that you can put in the waist lines. So that you can fill it up with water for the testing. and back when I used to do plumbing there was a knockout that you would glue into the waist pipes after you tested. It knocked it out to open it back up.

3:50 Biata, you could consider LED pancake fixtures in the bulkhead above the front door. Add a separate switch, and flood the entryway with light if and when you want it. The fixtures are barely thicker than the drywall and are nearly invisible when they're turned off. They're cheap, and super easy to install with a 4" hole saw.

Nice work, these are expanding pugs you can get all various different sizes consist of two metal plates, rubber Bellows in between with a bolt going through with wingnut on the outer side, so you put the Bellows metal plate device into your waste pipe and you then tighten the wing not up which then clamp the Bellows into the pipe, make sure it is done uptight, Good luck with your inspection, look forward to seeing next weeks project. I hope it all goes well., from France

Once you have your rough plumbing ABS in, inspectors normally like to see water in the system up to the roof...you can either put a test plug in at the inlet to the septic tank and use a hose to fill up from the system...you can glue a 1-1/2 x1/2" FIP fitting on a trap arm install a sediment faucet /hose bibb and with a hose fill the system up from there...water has to run out the vent on the roof. tub P trap cant be installed at this point....looks like you cut the toilet pipe down to early so you might have to install a flush fit flange and use a riser afterwards.....with the waterlines they can be filled with water then hydraulically pressured or just use air...hope this helps...

Great work Biata, the attention to detail will pay off. You may think it is taking a long time, but everyone starting out takes longer than a skilled professional doing it all day. If you need to do it 3 or 4 times to do it right in rough in than you save a lot of time and issues when it comes to finish.

Hey Biata, to help resolve your issue with your plumbing test, as @50spirithealer mentioned too. They do make inflatable pipe inserts available that doesn't require gluing. Since you have to do another test :( for the above the pad. I would also run the test before scheduling your actual, this suggestion was prompted due to some of the cutting you had to do for your nail plates, just in case you need to do a repair. Otherwise, as mentioned previously, keep plugging away with the awesome work you're doing. Keep kicking but!!!!!

As an electrician usually does when he needs to cut a piece of pvc conduit that is filled, we use a piece of nylon string which we wrap around the plastic pipe and using a sawing motion it will cut through the pipe without damaging anything inside. I just watched a video on plumbing inspection. it needs to have water pressure not just air pressure.
@SimpleLivingwithBiata
@SimpleLivingwithBiata 3 ай бұрын
You can just do an air pressure test :). They may have had different code. You can do a water test instead of an air test though
@SimpleLivingwithBiata
@SimpleLivingwithBiata 3 ай бұрын
Well you can do a water test on ABS, but you need an air test on pex

Hi. Any walls that has plumbing should be 2x6 it makes it easier to conceal pipes or make a small vertical bulkhead with 2x2 in front of the pipes.
@SimpleLivingwithBiata
@SimpleLivingwithBiata 3 ай бұрын
That’s not true for our area. You can plumb 1.5” or 2” through 2x4 non loading bearing wall. Although I found these metal brackets that I think I’m going to try to make the wall more solid!

Its not a code thing its just to make plumbing easier. No need for steel plates unless they are less than 1 1/4 from the surface. In your case it would of made it easier to hide the pipes that was sticking out at the base also where you notch the 2x4 to insert the horizontal pipe you lost alot of rigidity if you hang somthing heavy on that wall. The plates will help a litte. Im just saying. I admired your will and determination to do all of this mainly by yourself. @@SimpleLivingwithBiata

If you going to use sheetrock you can save yourself some time by putting the dead wood in the corners it to be attached to.

Are those ducts for the ERV in the conditioned space????? if they are not you should insulate them so you can retain the heat/cool air needed to maintain the units efficiency rating. Unless im missing something but to my knowledge they need to be in the conditioned space or well insulated

Hey sweetie there is something else you can use... it's like a ball with a chain or rope on it so you don't loose it down the drain or vent pipe anyways I think it uses air to inflate it maybe try googling or ask a plumber
