Hi. In all honesty, I won't claim to be a super viewer who watches every single one of your videos. But, I've heard you a few times say that MesaBoogies are NOT (fixed typo) very good to work on and fix. I was wondering if you could tell me or make a video about the easiest/your favorite amps to service and work on. Also, with guitar amps do you consider to buy great values? Thanks.

When I was in Laos at a farmers market I passed up two star rubies for about $50 USD I thought just had to be fakes and later discovered they were in fact REAL, and even tho I was starting a gem biz in Thailand I had that if it looks too good to be true is isn't true! Later I found out I just walked away from two real pigeon blood red star rubies worth over $50k (in America) for only a $50 investment! So yea I learned the hard way that sweet deals can be found!

I have the 1958 model of that size console from Magnavox. It belonged to my aunt. She gave it to me when I was still in high school, and I used to enjoy blasting Frank Zappa, among others, on that thing. It is all tube. Also, another aunt gave me her a Magnavox console (same size) from around 1973. It is in mint condition in every respect, but it is a transistor model. It still sounds great. Additionally, at a thrift store for $10, I picked up a 1953 Motorola console. It has a built-in subwoofer. It actually has two monoblocks. Happy hunting.

That Magnavox is a 1961 vacuum tube model...the last...as the first "Astro Sonic" solid state sets were introduced in 1962. The tube units were far superior to the early solid states! One of my interests was collecting, repairing and restoring vintage radios. Some of the under chassis work I ran into was pretty rough! Webster-Chicago Corp., later Webcor, put out a fine line of reel-to-reel machines in the 1950s. They also manufactured one of the finest 78 record changers, again in the 1940-mid 50 era. The later models featured two speeds (78-331/3), the three speeders. Nice tube stock find!

I'd like to see the late 40's and early 50's tubes that could be used in that era fender and Gibson amps. What the actual tubes look like and how good the lettering is on them. I spent a small fortune on old RCA's in 22' and even though I had to send 20 to 30% of them back, I got some real jewels that made my amps sound absolutely amazing. I love getting the ones that have the print in good condition. They are beautiful in my eyes.

Old acoustics with high action always make me a little nervous because while you may be able to get it playing well with a setup, they often need a neck reset. If you can't do it yourself, it often costs more than the guitar's worth. I'm going through it now with a red label Yamaha FG-180 I just picked up.

Buying an old tube radio as-is and expecting it to work safely is like buying a "barn find" car and expecting to drive it home. Maybe it will sometimes. Now if you pay extra for one that is overhauled then you can relax but not many people can do that so ones that need work should be priced cheap. Unless a special rarity, that is in demand.
