Deus Ex: Human Revolution is an action role-playing game developed by Eidos-Montréal and published by Square Enix's European subsidiary in August 2011 for Windows, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. A version for OS X was released the following year. It is the third game in the Deus Ex series, and a prequel to the original Deus Ex (2000). The gameplay-combining first-person shooter, stealth, and role-playing elements-features exploration and combat in environments connected to multiple city-based hubs, in addition to quests that grant experience and allow customization of the main character's abilities with items called Praxis Kits. Conversations between characters feature a variety of responses, with options in conversations and at crucial story points affecting how some events play out.
Set in the year 2027, players control Adam Jensen, a security officer for Sarif Industries, a company which develops controversial artificial organs dubbed "augmentations". After an attack on Sarif, Jensen undergoes extensive augmentation and investigates the shadowy organization behind the attack. The story explores themes of transhumanism and the growing power of megacorporations and their impact on social class. It also uses the series' cyberpunk setting and conspiracy theory motif.
Development of Human Revolution began in 2007 with a small team within the fledgling Eidos-Montréal studio, after failed attempts to create a sequel at original developer Ion Storm following Deus Ex: Invisible War (2003). The two key influences were the myth of Icarus, a thematic element carried over from Deus Ex; and the artwork and ideas of the Renaissance, which influenced the story, graphics, and music, while combining with the series' typical cyberpunk elements. The open-ended gameplay was tricky for the team to achieve; the boss battles were outsourced to another developer due to time constraints. The music, composed by Michael McCann, focused on ambience and three-layered compositions over character themes and overt melodies. Human Revolution was announced in 2007, soon after beginning development. Its title and release window were announced in 2010. After release, a downloadable episode, The Missing Link, was developed, featuring gameplay improvements. A director's cut, featuring further improvements and additional content, was released in 2013 for the original platforms and Wii U.
Human Revolution received acclaim for its player-driven plot, gameplay, and freedom of choice in story and character customization. The major criticisms went to its boss fights and technical problems. The director's cut was praised for its revamped gameplay. By November 2011, the original version had sold 2.18 million units. It was followed by a spin-off, Deus Ex: The Fall, and a sequel, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.

I just finished Mankind Divided and what a great damn game. 9/10 Love the story, gameplay and world. Didn't want to stop. Tried to go all stealth but some of those guys deserved what they got 😆😂🤣 Definitely waiting for a pure sequel. I love a game that let's me play at my pace with no countdown counter in any mission. Yes, definitely agree. I'm waiting since the MD ending. And for once I wouldn't mind a happy end. This "died/sacrificed himself to save humanity" has become way too prominent in games. Also, I'm about to start HR again, just because the story and characters are so good.

The worst part of going for a stealth play with the original release (before the directors cut) was that the boss fights were sourced out to a third party dev and the rest of the game was built by Eidos. It made trying to be stealthy with a boss insanely difficult.

Aaaaah I have to leave a comment even though I don’t do this every day. I’ve discovered your channel with your Assassin’s Creed’s videos, one of my childhood’s game (especially Brotherhood but I love almost every AC game, especially Unity now that I’m a bit more aged). I was watching your videos without being subscribed. It went from AC videos, to Call of Juarez and random games… and today you got me with Deus Ex, one of my favourite game of all time. Deus Ex HA came out when I was 6, today I’m 17 and I’m still playing this game, and especially listening to the soundtrack when I’m going to school, when I’m working. The atmosphere is incredibly good in this game and it stayed in my mind since I was little. Today, I realised that playing video games when you are young is something else. Like if your mind can be easily put into another world and you as a little kid you’re like "Oh wow this is incredible". What I want to say is that playing video before a certain age is more of an experience than playing video games when you’re older, it stays in your mind in a whole different way. This is what happened for me with Assassin’s Creed and Deus Ex, you’ve made me wanted to share that feeling. But of course I can still fully experience a game and loving it, I’m just saying that it is a different feeling. I’ve never played more than the first sequence of Unity cause when I was watching my dad playing it and saw a guy loosing his leg it kinda traumatised me in a way. But today, almost 8 years later, even though I know the story, I’ve started playing it, I’m fully experiencing the game and I do regret to not have played more of that game before, especially as French person (this is not why I love Unity I promise (: ). All of that for saying that after that comment I’m going to subscribe to your channel. I’m really loving your content. If I may suggest you some games for you, well after you’ll finished DE: Human Revolution, you could played the sequel Mankind Divided. And that more of a personal opinion (being another and the last of my childhood franchise in video games), but I think that you would like playing Transformers: War for Cybertron and Transformers: Fall of Cybertron. I think that those are games that you could really like even without really being into the franchise. If you read that thank you, and sorry for the mistakes in my English :)

I don't know, gamers rated it as having the best trailer of all time (can't disagree there). The music, the visuals, the prospect of the story -- I don't think it's under-rated but I do think it's under-appreciated. Also, compared to Cyberpunk 2077, this game runs absolutely circles around it when it comes to story, characterizations, and sensible world-building (the bionic prostheses also was grounded in reality here, so they actually made sense as opposed to in Cyberpunk 2077).

You should install a mod to play it in vanilla. Director's Cut removed the yellow tint, which made the game surreal.

You know, I've never done a playthrough where I just shoot my way through situations. Might have to try it. I always play Human Revolution like a stealth game.

Funny thing about boss fights - every one can be done in few minutes, with a taser to stagger them + explosives lying around

The second and third boss can be done in 5 seconds. One with a well placed EMP mine and the other with a simple takedown.

Great video Jaycee. One piece of advice though: You can knock out everyone and still get the ghost bonus EXP, it's honestly the best way to play the game.

P.S: Pritchard might be a douchebag, but he is one of the few people in the game that don't lie or try to manipulate Jensen, pretty much everyone else does.

Since this is a new video, I'm gonna go ahead and say it in case it doesn't get better the 2nd half of the video - almost keep cover if you're stealthing. Even just walking next to a wall won't hide you from some enemies on the other side, you need to actually be under cover and follow along the wall and wait for good openings (every instance in almost all of the game is able to be stealthed minus the boss fights.)

Loved this game. The only real criticisms I have are the Boss battles are dull, and the take downs made some of it very easy if you're going the stealth route even on high difficulty
