So I just saw this video too and am just gonna post the same comment here xD The muscle up is merely just a mashup of a pullup and a dip, but there is a third spectrum to this as well. *And that is forearm strength* . Many people are actually strong enough to do a muscleup because they already have the necessary strength required to do a pullup and a dip - but the problem everyone is facing is the transition. I don't know if that's an issue for you but when I started working out my forearms too, I started to nail strict muscle ups just weeks afterwards! Which, of course led me down the road to a fourth aspect of the muscleup: shoulder injury. Am posting this comment as a help tool to everyone trying for muscleups or are doing muscle ups and because of that I made this mistake am sure alot of people might be facing the same problem here. I got an rotatur cuff tear AND a damaged AC-joint in both shoulders and this is because I was doing the wrong technique. So here's some keypoints that should workout for everyone here - given that you already have the pullup, dip and forearm strength to do this: 1. Keep your elbows tucked together. Like a chicken. 2. Keep your shoulderblades (scapula) squeezed together as if you where ice bathing. 3. Keep your shoulders retracted, and fixed. They're Not supposed to move. As if you where wiping a window with both hands up and down. Following these three key points would ensure your overall saftey doing these things as well as promoting a healthy technique for your body. Am not blaming anyone if you feel hit, am not pointing out who's doing wrong since I am myself one of them. I just want to send this message out to anyone who needs it! Cheers people!

also number 2 and 3 are kind of the same ? shoulder retraction is done my middle trapezius muscle fibers and the 2 rhomboids all 3 of these muscles "squeeze together" the 2 scapula's (scapulae? idr) to retract the shoulder

I used to be ale to do dragon flag, one hand pullup, handstand, muscle ups, front and almost back lever and had a record of 26 pullup. Now I barely do 5 pull ups and none of the tricks above. But I hope Ill get my strength back after some training
@joes4094
@joes4094 2 жыл бұрын
@@thememelord6510 its because physical feats like this require more than just skill to achieve, and thats strength and endurance. That takes a while to get and it will fade over time if you aren't training over a long period of time. Mike still remembered how to do a muscle ups, his muscles just didn't have the same strength and explosiveness they once had. Luckily though there's a handy thing called muscle memory which allows you to recover lost strength a lot quicker compared to gaining strength you've never had before. :)

Jonniebeans studies show that in fact you don’t lose a lot of strength in 6 months, your body just forgets the neural pathways used to complete the movements. This is demonstrated in this video by his progress being much faster this time than the initial learning period. Really crazy stuff

I mean, the way skills, like solving a Rubik's cube or breaking a glass with your voice, work is very different from a physical skill like muscle ups. With a Rubik's cube it's about synapses in your brain and once you got those it'll take quite some time before they're completely gone again, but muscles start to break down after about two weeks or so of not using them. It's not surprising that you couldn't do any after half a year of not training.

The tone of this video is so different from the others with the music and the general vibe, the other skill videos felt more about always climbing forward but this one was somehow more inspirational, showing that even though you regressed you picked yourself up and starting climbing again, that takes more than motivation, thats something deep inside of you that always wants to be a better version of yourself, you are truly a role model.

I don't think that losing skills is all that big a deal as you're making it out to be, although I absolutely understand the desire to retain skills you've acquired. But the simple fact is that proficiency in a skill will degrade without continued practice, skills need to be maintained, and there is a practical limit for how much practice you can put in. There are only so many hours in a day. So if you keep expanding your skillbase you will eventually hit a hard ceiling where some skills must be left to degrade.

I completely disagree with you. Relearning a skill is a lot more of a piss off than learning a skill. Because you know you were able to do it, and now you’re back at square one. Rather when you’re learning it for the first time it’s motivating to know you’re going to be able to do it for the first time.

Sheepers575 He might be right mate. I’ve been training for 20 years & I learned that exercises, & a lot of martial arts techniques, are like drugs mate. The effects vary from person to person. So much so it defies logic/common sense sometimes. The amount of “facts” written by “experts” that aren’t facts at all is astounding. In the martial art Systema (Russian military/fitness based) we had students that went on holiday for 1 month & when they returned they’d lost most of their physical gains.

Human muscle fibres will start to break down the minute you stop pushing the limit of the work they can provide. 'Muscle Ups' being a two component thing comprised of partly technique partly strength where both parts are needed (unless you’re obscenely strong) mean you’ll lose the ability to do them with equal results within a week or two of first accomplishing them if you stop using the very muscles that do the work. Sustaining muscle mass is very costly for the body nutrition wise. It puts you in greater risk of starvation as well as death during harsh times (a crucial point back in the day though not so much now a days). Muscle cells consume very large amounts of calories even at rest. Given the ridiculous calorie consumption of the large human brain something had to give in the course of evolution regarding energy needs in relation to the difficulty of finding nutrition before farming became a thing a few thousand years ago. It turned out to be the size of our muscles being the least needed feature seeing how the brain started to supplant the muscles' life aiding function. Back in the day that meant transforming a great ape with powerful muscles like today’s great apes into a slender bodied up right walking versatile primarily data computing primate. All coupled with developed physically diverse fine motion abilities while sporting weaker as well as calorie cheaper muscles. This is all due to known mutations within a common set of primate genes related to muscle development. We don’t need large muscles anymore even though we retain the genetic material to develop them when ever they’re put under continuous strain. I vividly remember my parents comments (complaints) regarding the “obscene amounts of food” they had to buy when I and my brother were into heavy work out as late teen agers all the way into our early twenties. I and my brother both had to eat like horses in order to even sustain our physiques at the time, let alone develop them further. Muscles are still considered vestigially “sexy” but never the less completely unnecessary given human survival. Your body will get rid of excessive amounts of muscle mass immediately when ever you stop putting them to good use. According to the biology of the human body that’s an advanced genetically controlled feature rather than a bad thing. Anyhow, I love these videos of pure accomplishment so thanks.
