According to Smart Asset.com's Michigan Take Home Pay should be $4748 after taxes. Let me do some numbers: Average Car Insurance is high in Michigan at over 1000 a year so 83-120 a month. In 2017 the average Michigan Energy bill was 97.41. Assuming a large house lets say she pays $150 a month. Home Owener's insurance in Michigan is cheaper but I'll assume that she has a bad rate and say $100 bucks. 34 Gas for her car lets say 100 a month. Health Insurance in Michigan is High at an Average of $416 a month. I'll just double it to 834 a month to include kids. Subtract the 2000 for Day Care and She has $1444 a month Left to buy Clothes (At Consignment or Goodwill), Pay water bills, pay for groceries (At Aldi or a cheap supermarket). Amy if your reading this comment, you need to budget properly

@gambers20001 4 жыл бұрын
@@andredavis2928 I'm trying just to run the numbers. The thing is the monthly expenses with daycare will be gone in about 3 to 5 years I assume. So she will have $1,200k free in her budget when her kids age out. I didn't calculate food in this budget. That was my mistake. My suggestion to her is to go to food banks to help feed her children until they're out of daycare. Consignment shops or Goodwill for clothes. Hopefully that will help her. The thing is her suggestion that she borrow money will make things worse. Because when her budget frees up when the kids are out of daycare she'll have interest accruing on the debt.

Even if we forget her bonus, her regular take home pay is $1000 per week = $4000 per month. Child care = $1400 per month, rent = $850 per month. So she still has $1,750 per month to pay for groceries + utility + car insurance + phone bills etc. It’s not that tough. She could actually be saving $200 per month out of that. And whatever bonus she gets once a year, she can put that directly as her savings.

I use an excel spreadsheet to calculate my budget, it's not hard. It's good practice to log into all your accounts (bank, credit cards, utility bill company, etc) just to see what you have and what you owe; look at the individual transactions for the month if you want- it takes like 5 minutes. I update my spreadsheet manually with those balances and it automatically crunches the numbers so I know what I have left at the end of the month. If you need free spreadsheet software you can use a Google account to access their Google Sheets online.

She definitely needs a budget but I could see where its rough on that income if you aren't diligently planning. Assuming she's got $2000 after house & childcare. The number below is very bare bones although maybe she could pay less on food and divert that to clothing or other things but I don't think it's as easy as Dave made out in the video. Especially if her income is irregular but totals 70k at the end of the year. 150 Utilities 400 food 30 cellphone 30 car insurance 50 house insurance 2000-660 = $1340 . Actually nevermind I think I've put more thought into this than she has.
