Had a friend who ran into this same controller problem, across all FromSoft games. We tried a bunch different solutions, most of which involved steam Big Picture mode. In the end we established that the game was detecting and using his flight stick that wasn't even plugged in. I'm a bit iffy about the details, as I wasn't able to actually walk through this solution myself but: Open "Device Manager" in windows and find your controller, it should show up under "Human Interface Devices". I believe all game pads/flight sticks show up as a "HID-compliant game controller", it did in this case. if you only have your game pad plugged in (keyboard/mouse can be plugged in) then you should notice that you have more than one "HID-compliant game controller", if you don't then it 's possible this isn't the issue or the controllers have been allocated under a different area of "device manager". If you can tally up your controllers and properly test them if you have multiple, that'll help figure out which of the devices are actually plugged in. If you have just one plugged in, establish which one of the HID-compliant game controllers is your game pad and then disable the other HID-compliant game controllers that are active by right clicking them and selecting "Disable device". My understanding is that FromSoft games apparently can find and lock onto one of these devices and basically won't use other controllers. So it's locked onto any other "game pad" your computer is aware of and then won't listen to the one that you want to use.

Try using DS4windows-> go to taskmanager -> go to services -> press N -> look for NvContainerLocalSystem -> Stop it -> restart DS4 and replug your controller and restart elden ring -> that should fix it

Playing with keyboard and mouse here, you get use to it, weird at first with the shift to dual wield or use the ashes or eat but doable

This should fix your controller problem: >Run steam in big picture mode >Use your controller to navigate steam big picture mode and launch elden ring (remember, it has to be launched through your controller) >Your controller should work fine now P.S. I had similar issues with my steam controller not getting picked up by the game, as it turned out the issue was a virtual 'ghost' controller. if that is the case for you, you should be able to find it in steams general controller settings. the best solution ive found is to just disable all hid compliant devices in the device manager that are still there when you unplug your controller.

Ranton you can counter by blocking with the shield and pressing RT and jump attack by pressing A and press RT both will stun enemies easier and do massive damage Another tip : your equip load is heavy you can make your roll/dodges faster by unequping armor and weapons or by leveling up the stats to increase your equip load , because rolling is so important in souls game i suggest you unequip some armor so it can be much much easier to dodge. For controller problems. Also try to disconnect your keyboard before starting game :)

Xbox one controllers have bluetooth support. If you go to steam and go to properties you can set it to a controller. Steam gamepad in big window has support as well if that doesn't work.

I have found that an xbox one controller does not work with pc with some cables. The cable you get with the controller worked with me.

What fixed my controller issue was changing the controller config of the game on steam. For some reason it has the from soft settings and they don't work so just change them to default.

beside the stutter i didnt had any real problems so far. One graphics glitch i recall & beside that im having a blast.

controller worked for 20hrs, then suddenly it disconnected. i replugged the usb connector and reconnected it. now working fine

I use controller in Big Picture Mode. Works all the time. I've found this is an issue with Steam in general. Controller is very glitchy without Big Picture Mode.

Messing with steam settings doesn't solve the problem for a lot of people, uninstalling the controller driver and re-downloading it by plugging your controller back in worked for me.

Experience on 100+ hrs the open world of this game feels like it lacks lore ... its an empty space with no story to tell and like its just put together only to separate different "territory?" nothing seems like each region is connected to the other ... after exploring you'll just fast travel to different locations and exploring doesn't feel interesting cause what you are doing is just finding castles, ruins and dungeons .. i love the game, but the open world doesn't give you much to rumor about
