I caught so many fish using this method. Graeme hopes to get some afternoon action with his baits fished on the lake bed, but he notices some difference in the patterns of the ripples on the surface...it’s just enough to make him try a change to a home-made float and it made a huge difference to his catch rate. It just illustrates how you need to be prepared to change tactics at short notice if you see something different. Then it’s time to check out some of the amazing old Country machines down in Somerset, showing how work was done by the farmers of yesteryear. And many of the restored machines are in full working condition.

Thanks Graeme fishing along with some old schools tractors what's not to like. Born in 1951 and also went to a Sec Mod school. We were considered to be factory fodder but you prove that many of us were more skilful than we were considered to have been. My metal work teacher was a tyrant who we were all afraid of. Some years later attending evening classes at my previous school I would see him and he was the smallest of men ever. Pretty sure I would of achieved more from his lessons if he had been kinder.

1:47 - The *"rubber sleeve"* was supposed to work in tandem with some anti-tangle tubing that was there to prevent things tangling up when you were casting.... However there are weighted tubing also exists that further helps pin the line down behind the feeder when its been cast out and come to rest on the bottom. I used to use it on my method feeder a long while back.

Hi fella, rubber sleeves are to lesson line abrassion wether to help the line for free running against the weight in an unsnagged situation or in snags or a bit of silt, simple but very effective. 👍👍👍✌🤘

Nice little session for you there and the reason for the little rubber bit on the feeder is so the line isn't rubbing against the edge of the plastic tube when casting or playing fish

Graeme your the same vintage as me also did metalwork at Secondary School remember forging pokers and making things like Tea Caddy Spoons out of Brass planished before polishing, also know a bit about farming methods being the son of one the straw came out of the Combiner loose and was baled after or back in the day burnt in the fields as it stood remember it from my time spent in Wiltshire and your neck of the woods,I did have an Uncle who was a Stud hand for the famous McAlpines near Henley all there harvest had to be cut using the very old fashioned Binders because they wanted long Straw for Bedding the Horses

For a drennan method feeder the hooklink should attach to a small plastic fitting that creates a bolt rig. It's a small barrel shape with a sleeve.

Also bales do not come out of the combine, just straw comes out in rows from the discharge chute. Then after a tractor towing a bailer which makes your bales. Nice seeing this old machinery.

The sleeve is for match fishing. Match anglers often use an elasticated bit that goes inside the feeder, and it has a little hook at the end, where you attach the line, and the sleeve goes over it. And then while they wait for a bite, they prepare additional feeders, and when they are ready to cast out, they just swap the feeder, to lower the downtime and maximise their chances of winning :) I think Steve Ringer had a video explaining how that works exactly.

Pretty sure the balls and hook contraption is an apprentice piece. Where upon budding carpenters would show their skills off in making a piece of which is quite difficult to create. Going back to the Lister Engine with a crossed pulley. It was simply to keep them on the main bearing and to provide a bit more tightness, as belts stretch and slip with time and wear. They also do the same on dry/fly wheels on the tractors.

The top of the method feeder has a slit down the back where you push the line though, the tail rubber keeps the line coming out the top straight and helps pin the line down abit and helps with casting. And yes that is a quick change snap swivel, tie hooklengths with loops in the ends help with quick changing rigs. Helpful tip when method feeding you want a very slack tip only the smallest bend in the tip, it stops having a bow sting tight line down to the method feeder. I use the method feeder alot in my big carp fishing and have carp rods on alarms, biggest carp on a method feeder is a 23lb 7oz out of my local gravel pit, I don't like tieing soild bags so use the method with soaked 2mm pellets same approach as the soild bag just quicker.

Thanks G! Don't you to retiring into 'Totally Random' just yet - maybe an A.I. robo-clone version of GP - say age 34 permanently!?!? 😀 Not a moan, but...The difference between the stock at, say, Old Bury Hill, and here? Parrot mouths on these carp. What are they using? A boat rod, and size 2 barbed! Such a shame for a nice fishery...what's OBH's secret? Shall be missed...Muchos grazias amigo! 😎

Hello Sir, I have been watching your videos for a while now, and in the last 2 years, used so many different types of baits and lures that anyone can imagine. Around about you can say 200 different types of baits and lures I have tried. The only thing that works in any condition is a spoon lure. I do not know if you have used it. If you have not, please give it a try.

So many times I've found that some carp under 10 lb fight much better and harder than carp over 20 lb and up. I'm happy to catch smaller carp all day than spend all night to catch one pot bellied overfed carp that comes in like a wet sack. Big weights are not important to me at all!

@@TAFishing Ha ha Graham, as long as it’s not giving you Jip. Love the way you don’t take yourself too seriously and for being the peoples champion of showing how it can be done on a budget without falling for the tackle trade brainwashing of the latest “must have gadget”. Salvaging that skip rod, what a joy every fish you catch on it, it still does the job perfectly well. From someone who built his own carp rods because there weren’t any to buy back in the day I still love to repair, make do and mend. One of my favourite float roads is a 6 piece 12 foot travel rod, I made into a 7 piece through an accident with the car boot. It was a cheap and cheerful £15 job from Roger Surgeys Dragon Carp before he sold up, imported direct from China. Most would have thrown it. Instead I slid a pole section inside the break, Aradited and whipped over the repair. The action is pretty much unaffected, it’s a tad heavier, so what, most don’t notice it’s been repaired until I point it out. But the joy of catching on a broken rod most others would have thrown away, carp to upper doubles on it, and when it does let go I will have umpteen bits from it, eyes, lengths of blank to repair a multitude of others no doubt. So keep doing it your way Graham, stay unique. If it ain’t broke don’t try to fix it….is often said. You take it further because when it is broke why the hell not repair it yourself using a few rod building skills.
