In this video I install my replacement BMW N54 engine in my 2008 E90 335i.
This video will give you an idea of what is involved if you're thinking of tackling an engine replacement at home in your garage.
Luckily on this car the transmission and engine can be installed in the car as a complete package making things rather easy.
Another benefit of newer generation cars is the fact that they have a bolt in modular radiator support so you can create clear access to the engine.
If you're new to my channel my previous engine spun a bearing.
I plan on building my old engine and possibly making another series.
If you would to purchase the crank seal guard show in this video you can do so here (affiliate):
bit.ly/3nTaIr7
If this is the first video you are catching of mine please consider subscribing.
I upload regularly.
Thanks for watching :)
When you see the word "affiliate" listed beside any link in my description please know that this is a custom link and I will earn a small commission if you opt to purchase using said link. This is at no extra cost to you so it's a win all around :) Thank you!

A garage is what you need, I recently moved and finally got a garage. No more asking to use a garage. Playing in the dirt isn’t fun, and the cold really sucks, but got to do what you got to do to get stuff done. Bmw plastic in cold weather... forget about it.

@@jeffreyhinman1397 You said it. I was that dude working on my Tbird SC in the alleyway hoping some fella wouldn't throw his beer bottle out the window just for kicks. Now every morning I head out the door to work I hit the clicker and up the door goes. I appreciate having a two-car garage every single day of the week.

For me it's just asking my roommate move his car out when I have to do anything. Fine for multi-hour long or even 2 day jobs, but I can't be doing that for multi-weeklong jobs like this.

I have to say the N54 always scared the shit outta me with the sheer magnitude of work required if something like turbos or a water pump were to fail. You make it look like average "9 to 5" stuff. I know the video is edited and all but I respect your no-nonsense approach to the task at hand. Glad the ol' girl is alive and well.

I'm not certain I agree. @VehicularDIY is super talented and explains what he's doing (and why) very well. But he is really inspiring to watch, and hopefully copy some of the work he did to his E90N54 on my own E90N54. Maybe not the AT to MT conversion or the full engine swaps.
