It has been a long time coming and many hours spend in the garage to convert the Ford Escape to Four Wheel Drive. I am very excited to get back out onto the trails this spring!

Looking to buy mother's 4x2 and converting it to 4x4. Was looking for mods for it so yes many of those mods would be done.

I found this video very educational. I’m looking at FWD versions of earlier Escapes. You may have mentioned it, but did you have to do anything regarding ECU change? Is yours full time AWD?

Do you have a video on how you did the transfer case? Or did it already have the output on it?

In an earlier video I show how the transfer case connects to the transmission. I did need to replace the FWD transmission with a 4WD transmission because the transmission case is different, which I also show in an earlier video.

Yes it does. Many of my drivers are old parts from various projects/repairs.

Can you pls give the part number of the differential you installed on the rear axle? Any specific measurements you had to do before the installation or put additional metal washers?

I just pulled the rear differential and subframe from a 4wd Escape at the junkyard and installed it in mine.

Do you know how big the rear diff is in inches? I'm trying to get an ARB pneumatic air locker, but need the diff size before I purchase the full kit.

The rear differential is a Dana 28.

How do you actuate the transfercase to engage 4x4? Or is it full time awd?

The transfer case is always fully enaged, and I have a switch that couples the driveshaft to the rear differential.

Do you lose any overall power from this ? I have an 08 escape silver and it runs fantastic, just gets stuck a lot I’m wondering if when my trans does decided to go if this would be a good idea

Do you think this is possible to have a donor vehicle that is a 2003 four-wheel drive Ford escape and take all the parts and put it into a 2008 along with the transmission swap out? What year was your donor?

I got parts from a couple 2006-2008 vehicles at the junkyard for my 2008. 2003 parts probably would work, but you'll need to research that. Maybe cross-reference in a parts catalog. I know the rear diff coupling is different, but a 2003 coupling would actually be better offroad.

Bro same thats why i started watching i have a 05 fwd 2.3 it was my first car and i have a new car and its getting close to blowing up or a head gasket and its way to slow so im trynna figure out if i can use the stock 4wd axles and diff so i can just bolt em in it has slotted hubs on the rear wheels so hopefully its the same

Basically just swapped in all the 4wd parts like the transmission, transfer case, rear diff., etc. and added a switch to fully engage the coupling on the rear diff. Easy peasy

You didn't need to swtich the ECU? Also, you were able to switch back and forth between front wheel and 4WD?@@PaintedSpringsGarage

Don't need to change any computers. Everything still works properly. And yes, I just flip a toggle switch to engage and disengage 4wd.
