Feel like? NYT tried to blame the city for a homeless cat problem and not the nouveau owners on them literally dumping their frightened cats and kittens. Additionally, thoroughly reported in the summer of 2020 that this is precisely what has happened. The current bust and still depressing economy also is not helping

I am in the UK and at the time you could see it coming a mile off, once everybody was back at work and school they would be discarded, the cost of living crisis hasnt helped either.

OES are the best. I had one for 13 years and she passed also from cancer. We lost her almost four years ago and i don't know anyone in my surrounding that doesn't shed a tear while talking about her. For me it's the ultimate breed.

so sorry for your loss. losing a beloved furbaby is always sad. I have lost several and it's hard. the pain does lessen as time goes on. but we never forget our babies.

I'm totally with you on the government spay and neuters! I've been disgusted with our government for a long time for not having something so necessary, important, and humane, already in place.

@@Norah56s MANY places offer LOW COST Spay and Neuter and shot clinics, no excuse to not be responsible and vet. your dogs. People who can't afford to care for pets should not have them. Not directed at you if you care for yours......just my opinion in general.

Well said! I just don’t understand the way people act sometimes and their reasoning behind just dumping their pets so that they become someone else’s problem! I have loved each and every one of my pets and would do anything necessary to keep them safe and happy with me. I could NEVER give up on any of my pets! I have always adopted rescue dogs and cats from shelters and have found that these dogs/cats are so loving and loyal. All they ask for is a second chance to love and be loved. 💕😊🐶👍💕

The little one, Belly, a Dachshund, had a partial tongue amputation ( she is doing fine, as we taught her to drink and eat again using her remaining tongue), the other one, Tesla, a beautiful Hun Vizsla has two tumours on her chest, one is growing faster than we anticipated it, but we were advised not to operate as it would cause more complications, and the deep wound would not heal well getting infected which would cause her an earlier death. We chose not to cause her unnecessary pain with operations and chemo, which we could afford, we just try to avoid more suffering to our precious girl. Many would not care, but I do, we do, and I pay for very expensive medication to keep her immune system stronger to fight cancer. I would never throw her/ them away. I myself cannot comprehend those heartless people, who treat their pets like an old rag throwing them out like a garbage, causing distress, suffering and often death to their once loved pets. Humanity does not deserve these beautiful devoted animals. They do not ask for much, just a little food and love. Dogs understand more about humans' behaviour than humans do about theirs. The sad thing is that people become more heartless because of the hardship many have to face these days. That's what makes this world a sad, dysfunctional place to be in. If we cannot protect the most vulnerable, how can we protect humanity, the emvironment, our beautiful planet...No one cares! And that is a sad thing to face when I think about my grandchildren's future....How are the next generations going to manage in this harsh world? The economy is booming, just not for little everyday ppl. Read article other day about CEO's of major grocery chains. Top one got a 61% salary increase....MILLIONS on top of millions already paid. Doubt they pay much if any taxes either.

@@marthalisk303 yep. that's the way it is set up; the corporatists rake in the money, get the tax breaks and the middle/poorer class supports them and keeps the world rolling. That said, the economy is MUCH better than it was a few years ago, but greedy businesses are still keeping prices high to keep making profit.

Yes. Economy or not- dogs are family- Anyone who would abandon a family member, for whatever reason, should never have the honor of caring for a dog in the first place. On another note: To change the economy, change the POTUS. Please vote INDEPENDENT/ RFK, Jr in 2024. The only sane option out there.

The “economy” is not to blame. Unfettered corporate greed and Covid myopia are.

I'm a retiree on a fixed income. I have 2 dogs. Yes, the cost of their care and food has gone up, but ya know what? I would go without eating if I had to, to make sure they have what they need. I love my dogs. They're part of the family, not something to throw out like the trash just because times are tough! These people who cry poverty and relinquish their pets should maybe consider relinquishing their iPhones or give up a few visits to Starbucks instead of dumping a sentient being that loves them unconditionally.

@@nancymizur7034 Same. Retiree. I get my cat food via Chewy. They have great discounts if you keep an eye out for them or on occasion they've sent me $20 cps. That's like a free case of 24 cans! It helps for sure. Have had impeccable service experience with them as well. Vet care is entirely a different beast. Cost me $1K to determine an inoperable tumor in one of my cats and he would only live 1 mo. RIP baby boy.

I do believe that a large amount of dumped animals is also because after the pandemic, the animals weren't convenient anymore. They "outlived" their usefulness to these people.

The laws of the land have to be changed. One person cannot do it alone. I think animal loving communities "everywhere" are going to somehow have to band together to bring about the changes. I imagine the Internet could play a huge part in it.
