Exactly. There's a decent amount of misses/gags that didn't age well but most of it is pretty killer (no pun intended) because they cram in so many good jokes/bits as well. Reminds me of another banger from the same era, Not Another Teen Movie

Random fact: It's called "Scary Movie" because when the initial draft of the script that eventually became the movie "Scream" was doing the rounds, it just said "Scary Movie" on the cover before they later came up with the movies eventual title, Scream.

Really need to see Scream to fully "get" this movie. There are a number of direct scene for scene parodies. Like the intro with Carmen Electra, being a direct parody of Drew Barrymore's intro in Scream.

You should also check out the 2 end credit scenes. One is with Shorty and the last one is with Doofy. I didn't even know about Doofy's scene till this year when I left the video running.

0:15 - To answer your question, they're basically parodying the movie, Scream (1996) and specifically the beginning scene. This is how Drew Barrymore's character in Scream gets killed. But you need to watch Scream in order for the jokes and subtle nods to make sense.

I agree. I didn't even see Scream before I watched these films.. but I had watched most of the other ones it had parodied. I was so confused from the ages of 12-16 I thought scream and scary movie were converging timelines.

seen this in the theater in high school and it was so fun yelling WAZZZUP!!!. it lasted for a fun while then died off fast. fun story, i was at a local baseball game, AA game and it went to extra innings and a bunch of us were yelling WAAZZZUP back and forth, and we left early because of school next day and listening to game on radio the announcer was talking about kids yelling the wazzzup. it was funny.

Scary movie was parodying several horror/thriller movies that were popular at the time when it was being filmed. Plus it added some references to other things, like Dawson's Creek (or whatever it was being called), "Wazzup" advertisement, and so on. The plot twist was incredible, just because it was so unexpected.

The first woman is Carmen Electra, which is why she was in the Playboy magazine, said she slept with the Prince lookalike, and did the Baywatch run through the sprinkler. Funny you should say that those bars are weak because they are from an actual rap that you can hear in it's entirety during the credits, I forget who it is by though. Gale knew the truth because "she swallows". 😂

Carmen Elektra was considered for the lead. But she turned it down and did the intro. Anna Farris dyed her hair black for this movie to more closely resemble Neve Campbell who Played Sidney Prescott in Scream

The ending is a spoof on the ending of the movie The Usual Suspects where Kevin Spacey plays a gimp with multiple sclerosis and has a crooked leg and bad posture as he walks. Won’t give up the ending but that’s where the Doofy character came from

You know Carmen Electra because back in the 90’s she was one those Instagram model before the Instagram and social media era. She dated ballers and singers she had a gig in Baywatch and she was all around a major baddie. She wasn’t as popular as someone like Pamela Anderson but they were on the same circles.

Ending Explanation: People used to theorize that the "Doofy" character in Scream, played by David Arquette named "Dewey" could have been behind the whole thing, and that he was only acting incompetent and childish. So for Scary Movie which takes the majority of its inspiration from Scream they parodied the ending of "The Usual Suspects" where an otherwise useless seeming character turns out to be the mastermind, losing his limp and frail mannerisms as he walks down the street.

The end is a parody of The Usual Suspects, a film with Kevin Spacey. Carmen Electra was very popular in the 90's, she was a Playboy bunny, she was in Baywatch (that's why people compared her with Pamela Anderson), she's one of Dennis Rodman ex wives, she appeared in plenty of music videos, she had a couple of small rolls in some movies and at the end of her carreer, she was the star of her own show in Las Vegas, some kind of Pussycat Dolls or something that style.

A very popular option is that Scary Movie 1-4 is really good, 5 however is not good at all. If you do continue the franchise, I suggest replacing Scary Movie 5 with Superhero Movie and/or BASEketball. The director and writer of Airplane works on both. One is just made with the creators of South Park and the other is made with the writers for Scary Movie 3 and 4.

Either he hasn't watched Scream or he is unaware that this movie is a parody of Scream and a few other horror movies of the time. While I understand that the focus of his channel is to point the absurd and illogical in movies. Anybody who's familiar with the Wayans style of comedy knows that is what they specialize in the absurd and illogical. Continuously pointing out the absurd gets to be a little redundant especially if the movie is intentionally built on that premise. The first three Scary Movies parody at least a dozen or more movies combined and if you haven't seen most of them some of the scenes in Scary Movies will leaving you scratching your head.

I really love the first and second scary movies. You can really feel the Duffer Brothers love for horror tropes in their satire with a peppering of toilet humor and intelligent plays on some of those horror movie elements before the rest of the series goes to disconnected nonsense for cash
