Hi! You voted, I complied :-) Here's my video about how I created Neumorphism, Glassmorphism and Aurora via very popular Medium articles. I've been writing about UX and UI design there for a long time, and in 2019 my first trend caught on, creating a worldwide naming convention. After that I did it two more times. So how do you define design trends? What will be trending in UX and UI design in 2021?

Great stuff! Happy I found your channel. Awesome to see the behind the scenes stuff. I remember noticing this stuff on dribble. One of apples wwdc announcement backgrounds had a little neumophism in it that got me exited like when iOS 7s big redesign happened but they didn’t lean into it as much as I hoped. Very cool tho!

Welcome aboard! UI design is now at a stage where it needs some innovation, so it's nice to see big brands trying it with different levels of success (like recent Apple changes or Android 12). Exciting times :)

I really love the brutalism trend but like you said, I think I will try to re-do my portfolio in a style that is similar. As someone looking for work, I also worry using that style might be a little too much for potential employers. The glass morphism trend you started is gorgeous and makes me think of futuristic ui. I love it.
@MalewiczHype

Brutalism mixed with minimalism may work for a portfolio but it’s difficult to pull off well. For employers minimalism with not-so-minimal projects seems to work best 🎉

Great video! One thing to keep in mind, is that using the blur filter in CSS (which is necessary for creating a glassmorphic design) can significantly decrease performance, especially on lower-end devices. I've personally experienced this firsthand when I had to redesign a glassmorphic website because even scrolling was extremely laggy on mobile. It's always important to keep performance in mind when designing for the web. I hope that this issue will be fixed in the future.

Glad you liked it! The feedback round in the course will be of course about the course project itself (and it will be VERY detailed) - at the current stage (about 70% materials done) I am sure this will be helpful a lot to do great UI :)

Cool, I was doing "glassmorphism" in 2013 using CSS3, opacity, gradient, and subtle drop shadows. I didn't know what to call it then. I just knew I wanted it to look like glass. It was something I was proud of. Still holds up well today. A nice glass looking minimalist drop-down menu

@MalewiczHype
@MalewiczHype 2 жыл бұрын
There's no UX police to enforce any of this, it's just some general decency to mention when using work from someone else (be it a name, or photos, or designs or anything). I always do it in my writings when I need to reference something someone else has done. But definitely explore ALL the design styles, because merging different parts of them together is how you get truly creative :)

Yes, I named them and broke them down into a coherent information set in the very first articles. That's what I mean by "created" - not about creating the first design in that style - just making it simpler for people to understand them and giving them a name that's easy to search for and explore.
@adamvoid555

In one of your courses summaries you say "I created the popular design trends like: neumorphism, glassmorphism and Aurora", to be fair, you didn't create them, you just made up the names for them by analysing other people designs. Don't you think you put too much credit over there to yourself?

I had the same thought as Domantis, from the title I was expecting you to talk about how you designed/created them. But you identified and documented them. Not quite created, but "created" sounds a lot better in a KZfaq title. Domantas is correct in his comment, so credit to him. On the flipside, its a good thing you didnt design/create glassmorphism, it's terrible.

Why not just bring true skeuomorphism back? There was nothing wrong with it. It had a cozy feel to it. Flat design feels cold and unwelcoming. I wish companies would stop trying to fix things that weren't broken to begin with.

Not only the Nintendo DS Lite - there are Divisumma 18 (1970-s), some of the Dieter Rams gadgets, plus Zont and OP-1 portable music synthetisers. And there are much more, I'm sure, because what neumorphism is - it's the game of light on a matte monochrome surface. True innovation of 2019 is that nobody (almost) ever imported it into _digital_ interfaces before.
Online UX Certificates - are they worth anything?
