I learned to crochet about 52 years ago and was taught to wrap around my index finger. Done it this way so long that it’s hard to get another way to work. :)

Row 1 was half double crochet, but just regular HDC. It did not go through the extra side stitch before going into the next chain stitch. And why was the second row single crochet (SC) instead of HDC with the extra side stitch? Just curious. It's a nice pattern. Would it be suitable for a scarf as well, or is it too tight and thick for a scarf? I'm looking for a nice but simple scarf pattern, but I don't want it to be too tight. I want lots of movement (flowy) without it being too loose. I hope that makes sense.
