This is probably the worst thing I've in regards to "working" on my own car.. My Audi RS7 has serious damage from me simply trying to take a wheel off..

In the over glorified world of KZfaq these days, it’s refreshing to see an honest raw video on an error like this. Mess ups like these are also something we could all learn from too. I know I once had a car lose balance while the wheel was off before and I just wish I recorded it. Hopefully this video performs well to help pay the damages off!

Great video as always! You may want to check into replacing your other tires. I recall from somewhere that Audi’s Quattro system is “sensitive” to having differences in tire circumferences. In other words, your drivetrain could be affected by having a single tire that is slightly wider than the other tires because of the tread depth.
@Boblib1970

Thing to do would have been to jack the car at the jack point behind the front wheel. Place a jack stand, then you would have height to put the jack under the rear of the car to put your other jack stand. I was cringing when you were just jacking up the car in a spot that didn't look like it should support the car's weight.

Glad you are safe. Yes, should have blocked all the rest of the wheels and by the looks you were jacking the car up from the rocker panel and NOT a more stronger part of the structure. The manual will tell you the jacking points on the underside of the vehicle. Always follow that. I've had my jack begin to roll before too. It's very scary. I tend to put my foot right up against it when it's being jacked up as when the jack starts to take the weight it might roll a few millimeters. I wish they made jacks that you could lock the wheels from rolling and spinning direction.

I am sorry to say but I am not sure he comprehend the full lesson of this. No infomration in the video about drawing the consequences and WHAT TO DO DIFFERENTLY next time. What I would add to the end: A) Always prepare yourself for a job even if it is a tire change. (Especially on a 100k car). Check youtube. You will learn what tools do you need and what is the process. Watch at least three videos and you will be surprised how many angles a job have presented by different youtubers. A) parking brake engaged. Bricks applied on back wheels on BOTH direction. Put the air suspension in maintnance - tyre change mode. Loose the wheel nuts. B) Every german car has a lifting points. It is incredible how he was not able to find them. Use these points for jacking or you will damage your car. Period. Use the proper adapter fitted to the jackpoint hole. Again, preparation. After lifting use other tools like wood blocks next to to provide further support. Seems to be overkill until it is not. C) Invest to a torque wrench. Check the manufacturer's data for torque specification for lugnuts. That cross wrench he used was definitely not enough. (140 Nm? No way, even if he stands and jumping on one arm.) It is a sad story in every aspect. My language s..ks.

For sure you need some basic training for how to work on cars on your driveway: 1. Put the car on the flat surface. 2. Apply the emergency brake, put the car into gear, and block the wheels with anything suitable (choose what is convenient). 3. Lift the car on lifting points. 4. Secure the car with jacks/ blocks/ wood/ spare wheels - more is better. 5. Inform someone nearby, that you are starting to work on the car that is lifted in case of emergency. 6. Start working safely.

Harbor Freight Jacks aren't the greatest. The rotor is most likely fine since they're manufactured like tanks. The dust shield behind the rotor needs replacing. Easy fix. The entire door doesn't need repainting. It can be blended / feathered / faded in from the bottom half up slightly to the middle of the door. Shouldn't be noticeable if the painter knows what he's doing.

Mike being watching you for a long while and I really enjoy your content. With all due respect, you as a car guy have some flaws like this particular one. You never jack up your car without securing it especially on downhill. Use wheel chocks in front of each wheel opposite from the end of the car you will be lifting. If you do not have chocks you can substitute with wooden wedges/bricks/rocks. And the jacking point you choose it hurts my heart man. Usually there’s one on each side behind the front wheels and in front of the back wheels, close to the rocker panels. Or lower control arm, front and rear axes have jacking point as well. Safety first Mike. Keep making great content for us. Happy holidays all the best.

17:02. The body shop should be able to match the paint up perfectly. They will only blend/spray grey paint at the bottom of the door and clear coat the whole door, they don’t actually spray the grey on the whole entire door, that would cause it to look different. Since it’s at the bottom, you would never be able to tell, and it’s also a dark grey which is typically easy to match unlike the silver on youre S Class. Silver can sometimes be a pain to match.

You can put some car wax over that spot that is scratched. That will keep it from rusting until you can get it fixed. A good body shop will not respray the entire door - just an area around the damage and blend it into the rest of the door above. You won't notice it. Are you using the designated lifting point on the chassis for your jack? That is in your owners manual.

Jacking point was the issue here rather than the driveway. Always check you’re using a suitable jacking point, and it’s secure before removing the wheel.

Might want to file an insurance claim. Easily 5k repairs at a reputed body shop. Aluminum rear door will need to be replaced along with new rocker spoiler and repairs to the rocker panel. Aluminum is not easily repairable vs steel. Blending into adjacent panels. Daytona Gray if not one of difficult color to match. So I suggest finding the door in same color then repaint entire side. Paint shade variance differ each run at factory. No guarantee of a perfect match. Anyways great to see you being candid with one big mess!

I unfortunately lost an old friend because a car he was working on slipped off the jack. So I'm just happy it was only material damage and glad that you weren't under the car as it fell.

Come to Canada and see tire prices here… priced a set of 20” winters for a new Mitsubishi Outlander and Michelin X-Ice & Snow run about $480 each, and they’re not even the most expensive ones available, nor are they much more than all seasons in that size lol

Your HUMAN....love it. We've all had f'ups....but the biggest issue you have is you need a new house with a larger garage. Keep up the entertaining videos. I love em.

I think the door skins on the RS7 are aluminum so the spot shouldn’t rust. A high end body shop should be able to blend the door to get it to match pretty much perfectly.

I know you don’t wanna hear this, but here’s the trick that I use. If you can’t properly wheel chock the tires, just throw a couple boulders in front of and behind a couple tires. Also when you’re jacking up the car and you get that tire off, immediately put the tire on its side underneath the suspension. And then as a last ditch effort, if you couldn’t get that jackstand in, you could’ve always thrown the jackstand sideways underneath there as a temporary measure to kind of hold it up a little bit. Next time. 👍 Great video btw.

1. Parking Brake Engaged; 2. Put the Gear Selector in Park; 3. Find the CORRECT place to put the jack. Not anywhere under the side of the car, man, there are specific points where you are supposed to put the jack. And only then you bring her up. And next time, try doing that on a flat surface like your garage, it’s better for the jack.

Wanted to share: you can punch in a little divot on the side of the jack stands. That will prevent the adjustable part from coming out of the bottom stand like it did. 😁

I know somebody that was under the car working and the jack rolled in killed the person. Never jacked the car up in a slanted road or driveway. Always use wheel chocks. Or something behind the tires so the car won't roll. . I'm glad nobody got hurt ,😊just the car a little.

That is hard to watch. So sorry for you. 😢. Did you jack it up on the pinch weld under the side shirt? I would look for suspension mounting points or something more solid for a trolley jack.
