The HO motors definitely take a good kicking. My old man has had his 87 GT since 89, has around 450,000kms on it now, redid the top end a few years back and pulled one main and one rod. Not much wear at all threw a high volume oil pump at it just to help it out and still runs strong. Have a soft spot for these motors lol.

That 302 took a Hell of a beating for a worn-out motor. Don't listen to the Nay Sayers. I beat on my 289 cu in my Ranchero for years. Infact I was running to the parts store for my Chevy buddies for blown motors. Ha ha. I Drove it over 100 miles with blown head gaskets fogging everyone out. 😅😅

I wouldn't be a bit surprised if that engine had 288k on it. Those 5.0s are pretty durable. The low tension rings and high nickel blocks wear really well.

I worked at at Ford dealer back in the 80' and work a few hundred 5.0. Seeing the oil pan has been off before, the oil pickup would stop up on these year of 5.0, if there was not good oil changes. The previous owner ran with low oil pressure. Then had the oil pickup replaced but not the bearings. You were lucky you made it to the shop. Also when you put lower intake on, use Fel Pro intake gasket. Glue the cork china rail gaskets to the block using 3M weatherstrip adhesive.

The rest of the cylinders is from the cylinder's condensating when the car was sitting. As far as the motors mileage my fox body had a stock 302 with well over 200k that had the absolute hell beat out of it often, even before i got it a guy used to run spray on it. Been hot several times, raced, revved and it still ran great when I sold it.they are tough motors

My stock fox body when I bought it the original motor never rebuilt it had 292,000 km on it. That’s almost 180,000 miles and it still ran good but when I put nitrous on it it was passing enough oil that we couldn’t safely tune it. When we pulled it apart we could’ve put rings in it hold it bearing and put it back together it didn’t seem to have any major problems at all but instead I threw everything away turned it into a 331 through a supercharger on it put Scat rotating assembly, Edelbrock everything else, girdle and now I’ve got 600 wheel and I’ve had it for years

You know we took junk yard 5.0 motors and ran 11's all motor then sprayed the crap out of it and dragged bumpers and hitting 10's at Carlsbad years ago. What are you doing to these things and breaking them left and right. And my 351 was built by Ed hale back in the late 90's and that motor would Rev to the moon and never left me stranded.

Just a heads up, stock forged piston engines had low tension stainless top rings so with all the torture, overheating, and hundreds of turbo with nitrous passes on mine along with throwing everything bottom end into 2 other blocks after splitting those blocks.... i still have stock bearings/rings it came with and worst cylinder has 13-14% leakdown so reuse the stock rings as they are nearly bulletproof. Replacement moly costed cast iron rings are junk without proper hone/breakin. Replace the balancer unless you already have

T5??? I blew up three of those before that I blew up 3 AODE’s I did not want an automatic car but it was so much cheaper and the car was absolutely perfect I figured I would switch it and the AOD’s were freeish. After that gong show I put in a TKO 600 in and have never looked back best part is 2nd to 3rd you just put the palm of your hand on the shifter and push forward and it will put itself in the third you don’t have to guide it over you never grab the shifter on the 2-3 shift it’s a beautiful thing. And so strong

Bummer .... 2 motors in a few months ! My 1st stang was a 69.. Then a 73 , a 76 Cobra . In 84' I bought a new 5.0 stang. (Still my fav) Bought a new 95 5.0 . In 98' I bought "2" new stang GT's . I got T-boned by a girl who blew a redlight & totaled my GT with 3800 miles on it... I bought it back from the insurance because the driveline was still practically new .. And they sold it back for scrap prices practically... The day after I got hit , I ordered a GT exactly the way I wanted it .. It came in a month later ... My last stang was a 06' GT . I stored it 99% of the time & when my son turned 16 , (in 20016) I handed him the keys.. It only had 16k miles on it... He still has it ...its been banged up & fixed 3 times . The last time I had em repaint the whole car . (In 2020) . He now has it stored away . It has 80k on it , but looks fantastic in & out... He's 23 y/o & he says he's saving it for his son/daughter one day.. He always loved that car & never thought Id ever let it go... But I bought it & stored it when he was 6 y/o..(for him) Your stang will come back better since you have to rebuild it anyway ... There's a lot of stock parts on that motor .. With a strong top end & stock bottom end , I think you probably got dang lucky it wasnt worse ..

1. Those pistons should be stamped TRW if they are OEM. 2. Check the parting line on the beam of the rods. That just looked like CAST rods because of the thin sharp parting line. In that era Mustangs had forged pistons and rods. A forged rod will have a wide rounded line.
