You missed the element that his job requires him to keep his job hidden from all, including his wife. In other words it wasn't a personal decision to keep it hidden, but a requirement of the job. That is why she couldn't find out until the seizure of their bodies. Thus it is a main element of the plot. The writers assumed that the audience would understand this, that it were common knowledge.

The "worst best friend" actually has a real life story behind it. The actor, Tom Arnold, was joking with the director, James Cameron, about his real life ex-wife taking everything out of their house after their divorce... including the Ice Cube Trays in the freezer. James Cameron loved the story so much, he included the line in the movie. Then basically wrote his character around that line, and brought in Tom Arnold to basically play a more satirical version of himself. Also a lot of guys bond over behaviors like that, it's just how guys deal with rejection and bad relationships... so in the 90s when people were less sensitive, this film really showed that type of male bonding. As to his "women can't live with them, can't kill them..." it's actually a play on a famous quote "woman, cant live with 'em, can't shoot 'em" by Steven Wright. Who was a famous comedian at the time.

You about Arnold's confidence as a spy in the beginning made me actually think about him as an actor. It's genuinely amazing how much he transformed his charisma from his early films to classic and modern day movies. Check him out in "Hercules in New York" from the 70s.

Vkunia, you have no idea how accurate you were about getting Hitman vibes at the start. The mansion party opening scene of True Lies is copied almost exactly in Hitman 2 Silent Assassin where Mr.47 has to sneak into a German embassy party. Classic game, classic film.

The dogs are okay. The ones Arnold crashed together were made of rubber Here's an interesting bit of trivia... that part where the fighter jets blew up the bridge with missiles and machine gun fire? Yeah, that was two fighter jets from the Florida Air National Guard blowing the crap out of the real bridge. The old bridge was originally built in 1909, and by 1994 when this movie came out the old bridge was falling apart and scheduled to be replaced. So when James Cameron approached the Florida government and said, "I heard your bridge is up for demolition, do you mind if I blow some of it up for this movie I'm making?" not only did Florida say "Yeah, okay," they asked if Cameron wanted to borrow some fighter jets. The FANG used it as a training mission. Parts of the old bridge still stand and is used as a fishing pier. Most of it lies at the bottom of Duck Cut where it forms a brand new reef. And by the way, Jamie Lee Curtis really did the stunt where she is lifted out of the limousine by one hand and then flew to the next island hanging from the helicopter herself. She was a total badass in this.

This movie is actually based on a French movie called "La Totale!". The original script writers are even credited together with James Cameron because they lifted large chunks of the plot from the original, just gave it that good old American action movie twist.

I really like your take on Harry and Helen’s relationship; “…why don’t they just talk to each other?” Years ago I watched Once Upon a Time in the West with my wife, who sadly died last year. The whole of that film is a build up to Harmonica (Charles Bronson) confronting Frank (Henry Fonda). It is full of tension and prolonged smouldering scenes, building up to the final showdown. As they, eventually came face to face, about 2 hour 45 minutes into the film, my darling wife said “Why doesn’t he just tell him how he feels?” You briefly brought that moment back for me, thank you.

A Harrier jet is not your typical jet. It is a VTOL - Vertical Take Off & Landing. Meaning it doesn't need a runway. It can adjust its thrusters to go straight up and then maneuver them for normal flight. It is a pretty cool design. 😊

As far as I am aware, the original film version of a secret agent arriving in a wet suit, then removing it to reveal a dinner suit is the 1964 James Bond film, (Goldfinger). Which starred Sean Connery in his 3rd outing as the classic British M.I.6. spy. If you were to react to the first 7 official Bond films from 1962-71, you would see Sean in the first 5 & again in the 7th. Whilst George Lazenby stars in the 6th with Diana Rigg. I think you would enjoy them.

Cool reaction to a movie that is so fun. Another really fun one with Arnold is Kindergarten Cop. He does comedy as good as he does action and blending the two is even better.

One key point: if he actually was a spy, he would not be allowed to tell his wife. This was not him being secretive, he had no choice to do so. National security and all that. On a different note, shooting or even blowing up a nuclear warhead would not cause it to detonate.

But during the cold war they figured out that it was.. well not very neither effective or good.
