'I Didn't Know How to Draw Before My Apprenticeship' Micro Tattooing with YG | Tattoo Styles

2 жыл бұрынAfter serving in the South Korean military, YG took a chance on becoming a tattoo artist after being inspired by his older brother. He went into his apprenticeship not knowing how to draw, but today, he's one of the leading artists in micro realism tattooing. In fact, he's so skilled at his craft that other renowned micro tattooers, such as Ghinko, want work from him. We sat down with YG and Ghinko to learn more about this exciting tattoo collaboration and how this piece came together from start to finish. And no, they didn't plan on wearing the same exact shirt. But that just goes to show how in sync they are.

Trust me in a few years time they will be mentioned in the same breath as some of the biggest & best artists. A willingness to learn is what makes the difference to anything and they both have that and are humble about what they do as well.

@@Royinszki It's all about intuition, right? I'm self taught myself, I can do realism just fine but then stylised stuff or colours just break my brain. I've only recently gotten better with colours but barely. There was this kid in my school who could copy any style from memory alone, it was insane.

Same here, I can do illustrative any day but realism is like a completely different process. I’ve seen realistic tattoos done and I can’t wrap my head around it.

@@Royinszki what if you had three years and mentor to guide you the whole way? Also, tattoos can be created digitally and then it’s following the stencil. I’m not saying it is easy but perhaps in those conditions you’d master realism

You guys should do a tattoo artists react to influencer tattoos (good and bad). Jamie Genevieve, Sam Ravndahl, Nikki tutorials, etc

It’s strange. The art is great on day 1, but there is absolutely no way these tattoos will not turn into a mess in like 5-7 years if maintained carefully.

@@dumpsterfirewebdav3513 Traditional tattoos hold. Black holds. What that means is that it holds THE MOST, it will be the best bang for buck - the gold standard for tattooing on any skin. Your micro realism and watercolour tattoos will not hold. I have all types - coloured, micro realism and traditional. I know how it works, and so does every tattoo person dude.

Todays technology and with so many references, most black and grey artist dont draw their own designs anyways, they just grab imagea off the internet. Basically just learn where to put black , grey and ehitr contrast, i guess it depends on ehat style of tattooong

Knew a dude, called himself a tattoo artist. Opened his own shop and the dude couldn't draw. All he could do was basic flash as long as they had color reference. He knew fuck all about shading, light, color theory, i wasn't in the same state when he opened up so I didn't have to run away. Fucking terrifying a guy calling himself an artist when all he did was trace around and color between the lines.

@@ZEFFENWULF it was almost always a direct copy of his flash sheet all American traditional, simplistic stuff. No blending. No depth. No soul. Basic, mediocre tattoo work.
