Rebel Moon and The Creator could both be very terrible movies, but i am also SO happy to see more completely original (meaning not tied to an existing franchise, obviously these works are derivative.) sci-fi stories. I love stuff like The Fifth Element, Titan AE, and StarGate that just were weird one-off sci-fi movies at the time and I'm glad we're getting more weird sci-fi passion projects no matter how they turn out or how much they're just trying to do a star war.

I'd be happy if they were completely original, no matter how terrible. I've watched a lot of quite bad but still strangely charming sci-fi movies that I think of fondly if they had something new and genuine to offer. The thing that turned me off about the Rebel Moon trailer was that it vomited reheated cliche soup in my face from the start. I kept waiting for some interesting or original idea to pop up but the closest thing I could find was putting some Harry Potter creatures into a space opera, and arguably even that has been done. I hope the movie isn't just same old same old with new costumes, but that's what the trailer is selling. Creator looks interesting enough, though. It could be a new Chappie for all I know, but even Chappie was it's own unique kind of a mess.

honestly, seeing the griffins in the trailer and the overall vaguely medieval thing in space made me think of the Red rising book series, (well except in red rising the fascist empire is themed after imperial rome). Given Snyder's issues with storytelling I'd rather he did a badass adatation of red rising, than work on a rejected star wars script. Red rising is a very hyperemotional rollercoaster of drama and Snyder's eye for iconisation and emotional blunteness would be perfect for this,. Also a material that successfully walks the line of incoherent adolescent rage and cogent critique of fascism would inspire more confidence than the confused randian perspective of Snyder's original stories.

Yes, because the same author Frank Miller wrote both comics
@AverageDrafter
@AverageDrafter 11 ай бұрын
That's not the "rip off" I know Miller wrote both. Snyder saw Sin City and went "I can make a mostly green screen adaptation of a visually striking Frank Miller book that basically uses the panels a storyboards too". He ripped off the whole production workflow quite blatantly. It's like a band stealing another band's sound.

To me Rebel Moon looks more like Warhammer 40k (albeit less grim-dark) than Star Wars. Or maybe a combination of the two. Looks interesting even though I havent bothered to watch any of Snyder's other Netflix stuff Ill give it a chance.

Ok, this might be a based opinion, but I'd love to see Zack Snyder do a movie set in Warhammer 40.000 universe. He has great style over substance filmography which would fit perfectly with over the top setting of WH40k. Rebel Moon traiiler didn't grab me, can't really say what's going on. From what I heard it's supposed to be "Netflix's Star Wars", and since there aren't many space operas I'll keep an eye for reviews when it comes out.

Snyder is a one trick pony that you can’t help but love. His shtick is “what if popular thing had violence and sex cuz it’s badass and I only consume badass things”. All wrapped in a bow of vague “symbolism” that is so open ended and broad that you can latch any meaning onto it, story and lore elements that are so hidden in the background that they practically don’t exist but are somehow super integral, and a need to always compare his characters and story to mythologies of old cuz that’s a one way ticket to instantly make your story seem grand and cinematic in the eyes of fans without putting in the actual work to tell a compelling and impactful story. It’s the movie equivalent of “I’m 14 and this is deep” and I love it, he is such a cornball. People unironically think this is genius storytelling to construct a narrative in such an amateurish way, but let’s be real with why people actually REALLY like Snyder movies…it’s basically edgy middle school fanfic, it’s awesome

The Star Wars influence is there and it's a bit too obvious at certain points, but, believe you me, no Star Wars anything has looked this good or unique in a VERY long time. Dune probably looks slightly better, but you can still tell this has Snyder's fingerprints ll over it.

I don't care about Snyder stuff aside from whether or not I enjoy the movie. I respect that he has a vision. But I will say it feels like Nando wants a particular thing that Rebel Moon can't do. While comparisons are fair. It feels like Nando desires something in particular that isn't something Snyder does. So there's no winning for this trailer.

The biggest cheer in Avengers: Endgame in my theatre was Spider-Man swinging back in through the portal. There was screaming and cheering and also a sense of relief (phew, he's back!). Cap catching Mjolnir got a massive cheer too, but the cheer for Spider-Man almost rivals it.

No way he'll focus on religion! Just look at how he handled the religious symbolism of Justice League--all amazing visuals with no commentary. You know it's going to be some Ayn Rand self-determinism take on Star Wars, and while fans are excited, you just gotta look at his filmography to see what to expect.
@Snzn18

I don't know, it's better to be nuanced about religious themes especially if it's not mainly a religious movie. Like spoon feeding the audience what the symbolism means will end up a rather unexpected preachy experience, and people of today are rather very sensitive when it comes to religiosity these days.
@gabrielkale

Nuanced, yes. Synder has zero commentary. Your comment is right though--his work is symbolism for the sake for symbolism. If there's are religious themes supported by the themes, plot, and text, I'd love to see it; a deep Synder movie would be nice.@@Snzn18

i think Snyder fans feel so different because most fan bases have a love/hate relationship with their specific media of choice, while Snyder fans typically seem overwhelmingly positive about the majority of creative decisions the man has made. This isn’t true on all accounts, it’s just something I’ve noticed more commonly with Snyder’s defenders, and i definitely think it has to do with how overwhelming the other side of the argument is as well. Lots of people probably feel kinda meh about Snyder, I’m definitely one of those. But that opinion feels like a small valley with huge peaks on either side representing those that completely adore him and those that unabashedly despise him. those that love him, feel cornered into defending their admiration because of how overwhelming the distaste is, while those that don’t enjoy his work typically have enough valid concerns that make any positives difficult to acknowledge.

After watching the trailer, it seems (in some ways painfully) obvious to me that it started life as a Star Wars script. I'm not a huge Zack Snyder film. I'm fairly apathetic about his work. Some stuff I liked, some I didn't. Most of it, for me, wasn't anything to right home about. I am, however, a huge Star Wars fan, though. For that reason alone, I'm...curious about Rebel Moon? But the trailer didn't blow me away or anything. If this movie was in theaters, I probably wouldn't watch it. But since it coming to Netflix, I'm sure I'll watch it, but I'm not super excited about it or anything.

I appreciate ZS as an artist, as a filmmaker, as a human, as a comic- and scifi-fan. His work with Larry Fong is incredible, they work great together. But on the story- and directing-side, he would profit a lot from a partner and collaborator. He is great in directing action, but less when it comes to the quieter parts and classic parts of the film (unlike villeneuve for example).

I'm a Snyder fan, that thinks he would benefit from a co-director that's a about the nuances for storytelling. I also think that the trailer wasn't the best. Threw too much at the audience without really saying a lot about what if showed. Like, there's so many cultures in this movie. Great, as it's truly exploring a galaxy. However, because of how the trailer is edit, it looks like random stuff all mashed up. However, it did look great and the action looks to be on point. Hopefully, the next trailer is a good one.
