They didn't get Jon St. Jon. They got Gianni Matragrano who started out voicing Duke Nukem memes. He also worked in ULTRAKILL and other FPSes. EDIT: Selaco, for example. FEAR using GZDoom.

The darker grittier atmosphere fits Duke far more, Duke himself was an over the top silly character in a realistic gritty world, that is what made Duke work and what DNF in its final iteration didn't understand.

The build is still a very early WIP but it's still stunning how much work they have accomplished despite some of the lingering jank. We really have to thank the leaker for not only giving out the SDK, but the Source Code too! None of this would have been possible otherwise!

I love the darker tone of this compared to what we ended up getting with the 2011 Forever. It feels a lot closer to 3D, but in the style of the original Half-Life or similar games from that era. It also bothers to justify why you're in Vegas to begin with--it's the casino grand opening, unlike in Forever, where apparently Duke just...is in Vegas.

I can't believe Beyond Good & Evil 2 beat Duke Nukem Forever.

Now that I think about it, this game was in development when Halo 1 was released. Then by the time DNF released, the Halo 1 remake was around the corner.

The enemies animated reactions to getting shot or blown up is really good for 2001

Holy moly they are showing progress much faster than I expected. Very cool. Commentary was very on point on this one as well.

Very impressive for a 2001 game all around, but those shattering window physics are freaking MAGIC for a 2001 game. That was around the time where shooting windows in video games *sometimes* blew out the whole pane if the devs would go through the trouble. Moreover, the level of shattering glass physics in this game STILL aren't very common in FPSs.

I can't wait to see more from this project. I always said that the 2001 version was the game we all wanted, and it'll be awesome to see it at least in some manner.

The Pig Fiction and Beverly Hills Pig posters are taken from the Playstation port of Duke 3D, Total Meltdown, which is a strange choice.

When you were kicking those glasses it reminded me of shooting those bottles in the tanker chapter of MGS2, Merry Christmas and happy New Years!

Honestly I'm really impressed this older build of DNF is as great as it is, still a shocker we didn't get this instead of the infamous 2011 game, wish the series wasn't stuck in Reluctant Randy Pitchford's hands, honestly I really think Duke has potential for a comeback especially with the Boomer Shooter making as much of a splash as it has been and because of it most games of that era have come back with Duke being the few who haven't, honestly just take inspiration from the recent Doom and Wolfenstein games and make it a follow up to Forever to make fun of how awful that game was and there you go Duke Nukem 5.

To think, Duke Nukem could have still been a viable franchise if the true potential of this game came out before it was delayed, scrapped and mismanaged by 3DRealms/George Broussard and Gearbox/Randy Pitchford.

Heres the funny but sad part. If this was released today, finished, using this tech, it would be an amazing boomer shooter with the duke IP to boot! Also considering how edgy and un-pc it is by todays standards it would have garnered some interesting press!!

i mean if you want to know how this could had ran on an old 2001 machine, well if my early experience with Deus Ex and Unreal Tournament are correct it could had lagged like fucking hell to down to 3 or 4 FPS, or maybe just gave me an error trying to launch the game because how heavy in graphics are and i barely had a dedicated GPU back then, not until i tried to play Need for Speed Underground and Enter The Matrix that Enter the Matrix gave me a "no fullscreen resolution" error and NFSU had all the textures jambled up like a Corruption Stockpile thing. I suppose that the minimum PC back then that could ran this game perfectly could be a P4 with 128 Megs of ram and at least 256 Megs of GPU so a GeForce 5200 and maximum could be a P4 with 512 megs of ram with a Geforce FX 5600 or a Radeon equivalent, anything below that could totally be unplayable without lowering all settings to the lowest setting possible.

Wow this is way better than the beta version,and they did an incredible job restoring this cancelled Duke Nukem Forever game. It’s just make you wish that 3-D Realms making this. Oh well let’s hope that the new Ion Fury sequel comes out.

I haven't looked into the original leak so I don't know how much was added. But this looks like a fun experience either way. Out of curiously, was most of the game in the code of the leaked build or will later versions of this potentially need original maps to join assets.

Ok, so I've never played the final DNF or the original demo. What's the design philosophy of this team, take the story of the final release and completely backport it to the engine of the old version but with some touchups and extras, or is there a different Duke Nukem storyline that was originally supposed to be the plot for DNF or something?

Even though the fan mod is good, it was too little too late for Nukem to enter Mainstream Audience

To me it sounds less like a different VA, and more like they cut together new voicelines from older John St.John recordings. Duke some of the lines have really weirdly inconsistent tone between words
