We do not look down on DIY or value-orientated tools, but they have to work. We get a lot of comments that we do not understand Ryobi and that they are DIY tools. BUT they have to work and not go up in smoke! This Powerworks tool was another DIY tool that missed the mark by simply not working. What good is a string trimmer if the bump feed does not work.
We discuss more of the interesting path of Greenworks than the tool. That seems more important.

I have a brushless Ryobi 18v 15" trimmer, attachment capable. Uses a .095 line. I paid$99 for it as a kit, with 4aH. I use it professionally i trim dozens of city properties weekly,I maintain properties for landlords and keeping up with the lawn work is part of my weekly duties. I've been extremely satisfied with it, so much so that I will never use gas trimmers again,I get about 20-30 minutes of constant use per 4aH and it has never once struggled with any job, its not even their HP model it's just brushless. Highly recommend Ryobi string trimmers.

Thanks for the info..... Have not seen it at HD but will look for it next time I’m there! I normally stick with Milwaukee and EGO for shop and yard tools!! Both have worked great 👍🏼

In order to make you think you're getting a 'deal' on a 'Pro' brand tool when it goes on sale, the floor of that 'deal' is set at the high end of their Crap brand. Crap brands drive up prices of the Pro tools. It sets the precedent in our head that we need to pay $200 - 800 for the pro tool because it is made of unobtainium. When in reality, after any tool (including the Pro brands) have been capitalized for 3-5 years, it is super easy to lower that price. The factory and the tooling are paid for. It's pure profit. They need minimal$ to keep those things printing and shipping (even the minor facelifts like the Gen IIs and IIIs every brand has). The brand and the battery line are established. The hard work is done. Let's not kid ourselves. So instead of passing on the savings of no longer having to build new factory lines for the 'Pro' brands, they introduce Crap brands at the lower tier, so we're willing to pay more to get out of the Crap range. It's a license to print money, making us think that the Pro brand tools shouldn't be coming down in price after being capitalized. The batteries are just rolling down the assembly line now. Scarcely anything to invest in, just rake in profit.

GLOBE is the main company they do all the battery technology etc, they make products for other manufacturers such as Echo 40v line Greenworks 24v Greenworks 48v 24x2 Greenworks 48v Greenworks 60v Greenworks 80v Cramer 40v Cramer 82v Mountfield, Stiga and alpina (GGP Italy) sold in uk and Europe Victa in Australia And many others including Stihl. Basically they’ve decided to give Cramer the 82v pro range While green-works will keep the 24v, 24v x2 (48v), 60v etc semi pro / consumer line Cramer is where it’s at ! They’ve just released a 3.4kw (60cc petrol equivalent) chainsaw and its a monster

Tim from Canada Green .. is a major player in Canadian tire in Canada this is one of the big lines in Canadian tire in Canada is green works... sometimes you can find this at the home hardware in Canada the Green Works line but basically it is Canadian tire based in Canada.. they might not have all the major stuff you were looking for but they will have different things what I have is a 24 inch hedge trimmer that will run off of a cord or 3,..AA batteries. Either way there is no power when you run extension cord or battery powered this is one of the cheapest and crappy stools I have ever used and I have use quite a lot of tools in my years I would have to put in. ... . (green works )in the same line as (black and decker )(and Ryobi..)

Those batteries look like the harbor freight atlas/lync 40v batteries. IMO heavier duty OPE needs 80V+ I have a 40v lithium ion black and decker string trimmer that works just fine for trimming that I purchased over 8 years ago. It wouldn't work for bush hacking or heavy duty stuff but I haven't ever needed it for that. My 80V Gen 1 mower, chainsaw and backpack blower with the 4ah batteries are just about perfect in every way. using the 2AH batteries makes them lighter but you can tell the power is being throttled. I'm pretty disappointed they've turned their main focus to the 60V and lower voltage tools, even the commercial stuff isn't seeing the attention I think it should.

It's all about corporate GREED. They just make or buy a cheap tool, stick a brand on it with some marketing and catch the home owner/DIY with a price that is lower than the Well known brands but the low quality of the tool does not justify the price. Similar marketing with HART and Hyper Tough tools etc, they kind of sort of work but how well and how long do they last??? But over the holidays they get cheap enough to the point where people think that it might make a great gift, But really it's a waste of money.

I haven't seen those in HDs around me. What I will tell you is that the brushless Greenworks drill the company sent me to review smoked on a 1/2" twist bit in pine. I feel like they're either trying to put out some high profit margin junk or they think they are tapping into a new market. I don't think they'll be successful.

TIM from Canada once again the green works and was lawn care now they are trying to get into power tools.. just like the Ryobi line.. Ryobi was power tools then they decided they wanted to get into lawn care.. which I thought was kind of stupid because now when you buy a Ryobi lawn care.. you know I have to go out and buy a brand new battery for this unit.. which way are we always said they were going to stick with the one battery platform which brings me to believe this is total bullshit on their part.. they could’ve stuck with the one system and made the battery a different size but now this is another story. For another day but the green works they are now going in this direction you can see this coming very soon when the lawn care will start to bring out the different types of lawn care equipment attachments same goes for green works power tools you will see this in the future becoming one of the new up-and-coming DIY for people who do little to no work at all.. still this is what I see when I am watching these videos... and if you do not see this when you were watching these videos than you or miss in formed and distorted from the truth..

I have alot of greenworks stuff. I'm done with them. I got the 40 volt line then I had to jump to the 40 volt G-max. shortly after that they launched the 80. i jumped to that thinking ill never have to do that again. shortly after that they launch 82 volt and 60 volt. they have virtually stopped support of the 80 volt line. I'm done. when they brake I'm going to Ego. its a no-brainer at this point

I don't know about Greenworks being "high end". I'll give you mid -line at best. I agree that I don't understand where they are going. The mid line and even the low end tool market is pretty saturated. You have everything from Ryobi, Rigid, Hart, Black and Decker and a ton of other garbage brands out there. Secondly, I don't know if 20v is the way forward for homeowners. Personally, I always try to leave my Dewalt 20v tools in their cases and reach for my M12 tools whenever possible.

Tool company consolidation is everywhere. Low end Ryobi is under the same company as Dewalt. It's common to have a budget offering in the portfolio. I always thought of Greenworks as a budget offering, too, at least compared to Husqvarna, Stihl, Makita/Dolmer, etc. It's also not uncommon for high end legacy gas brands to invest in battery powered start ups. Common in the motorcycle world now, too. Makes sense to buy into the tech then integrate it into your own high end line. If you want a powertool brand that hasn't sold out to the consolidation game, Makita is the only show in town, and still the best overall. No reason to stray, or opt for the cheap stuff. Milwaukee has a great selection, especially in the 12v realm, but still a step below quality wise. Just wish Makita would release a 50-60 cc equivalent pro level saw.

My Kobalt 24v brushless string trimmer has the motor in the head and I wouldn't call it cheap it's built very nice with a aluminum shaft, well balanced and plenty of power.
@EricStrobel09
@EricStrobel09 2 жыл бұрын
@@charlesquinty7403 I would agree with that. The kobalt unit seems to be well liked and we'll built. I guess I see OPE in the traditional sense, power unit with a flexible drive shaft running down the shaft. Direct drive motors on the head of the trimmer just seems a more "cost cutting" thing than a feature they're really after. Doesn't mean a quality one can't be made though

@@EricStrobel09Direct drive motors are usually more efficient vs top end. I have the newer 60v stuff and my top end vs direct drive trimmer, the direct drive gives about 1 hour of heavy usage while the top end only really does 35 minutes.

The trimmer head has been fixed and it’s way better! I know what your talking about cause I had to replace mine and they didn’t have any available cause they quit making it! They tried to send me to 3rd party websites to purchase it. In the end they just sent me the newer trimmer cause mine was still under warranty. I can’t believe how much better it is and how effortless it is to turn the string in the trimmer head now.

TIM from Canada my opinion on green works and why they are getting into drills and power tools.. when the main focus was the green works yard tools.. back to the question they have seen white Ryobi a shitty DIY tool company has come and done... now green works. Wants to get into the market and the DIY project home improvement.. you will see a lot of these little companies now that were basically into low and power tools or low and your tools.. Well now add power tools and your tools to the line such as green works... these will always be a low end tool company. Just wanting to fit in now.. just like the Ryobi brand trying to run with (Milwaukee..the pro tool brand.. The funny thing is real B thinks it is a pro to this can be further from the truth the Ryobi brand will always be a bottom and low level tool company.. that will come out with one or two good tools. This is my opinion this is what I see.
