The "wonky" shifter is why it wouldn't start the first time. When you dove thru the window and slammed it into park you realigned the neutral safety switch. Fix the shifter and it will start every time without worry. Glad you're ok. Stay safe and keep the video's coming.

Here is a video on how to replace the steering column shift tube bushing,,, fairly easy fix,,, Also the Dorman #14057 bushing kit will fix where the shift cable attaches to the transmission,, So happy that you did not have to use your body as a tire chock,, :-)

Hey Randy. There's a plastic bushing in the shifter that wear's out check it pull the plastic upper and lower cover right where the shift rod goes in. Nick a great kid.

Glad you didn't get hurt brother! But that air bag light is flashing a trouble code I think it's 13 the way you read it is there are usually 2 sets of flashes on an obd 1 system. The first one is 1 flash then a short break then 3 flashes. For the trouble code 13

Ok I retract my previous comments. I got a good count of the airbag flashes. There looks to be a short to ground. Here is the beginning of the chart. Looks like ur code is 13 Continuous Air Bag Indicator - Air Bag Diagnostic Monitor Disconnected or Inoperative 12 Low Battery Voltage 13 Air Bag Circuit Shorted to Ground 14 Primary Crash Sensor Circuit Shorted to Ground 21 Safing Sensor Not Mounted to Vehicle Properly 22 Safing Sensor Output Shorted to Battery Voltage 23 Safing Sensor Circuit Input Feed/Return Circuit Open

On the OBD 1 connector, ur gona find a single wire connector right next to the OBD connector. U have to put a jumper wire from that single wire connector to the 2nd top terminal on the OBD connector. That is gona put the PCM into test mode and u can read the codes by counting the number of times the check engine light flashes. But the actual procedure to correctly read the codes on OBD1 Fords before 1996, is a little more involved. Look it up

Thank the lord your ok. I was under a car with a friend removing a transmission we used a transmission dolly but it slipped and almost crushed us. Scary stuff

there's a screw that's loose on the shifter tube in my case the screw fell out, you have to go underneath the dash to tighten it, that will fix the wonky shifter and that's probably one of the reasons it wouldn't start, I had the same problem with my 1996 Lincoln, it wouldn't start because it wasn't all the way in the park due to the wonky shifter

I'd replace those rear bags ASAP with Arnotts. There is no other vehicle that rides like an air bagged Lincoln. They are an experience all their own

Check the right trunk lid hinge for a sticker with 5 numbers. If there, its the door button code. Should be another in the glove box

Check the shifter linkage for looseness and bushings.

Most Older Fords, Lincoln, Mazda, Mercury Etc. Will normally flash the airbag light. The flashing of the airbag light is actually a code it will be broken down into 2 sections so like if the code is say like 14 the light will flash once then pause then continue blinking for the next 4 times then it will pause again and then repeat. Hope this helps find out what the airbag light is on for. Thanks for the great videos!

I've got a 1988 lincoln town car and the frame is the same as your 1994 lincoln but I have the 5.0 302 v8 and mine has 86000 miles on it and I saved it from being crushed and the only thing wrong with it was the fuel tank and fuel pump and it is white with a dark blue carriage top and white leather and blue carpeting in it and it was a clean car.

With the shift lever, most likely the bushings on the linkage, should be a breeze to do those, for the safety of the new owner.... My 1994 Thunderbird had an OBD 2 port located under the dash by the glovebox, left side near the trans tunnel. Might check and see if this car has one?

AIR BAG LIGHT - Flashing code 13 = Airbag direct short to ground. Perhaps somebody already mentioned this, I have not checked.

The bushings on the shifter assembly needs to be replaced and you’re good to go.

Two torx bolts on the back of the column. T30 or so in size. They connect to the shift tube for the column. snug them down. There are two shifter tube bushings, the tube slides on them. Hot heat, they dry out and fall off/disintegrate. Fix all those, and you'll regain shifting. Cool car. I own 4 TCs - Love them. Tough, safe, reliable.

Randy just a suggestion when you transport the Lincoln and tie it down on the trailer make sure you you hit that suspension button otherwise you’ll pop does bags.

I just realized the airbag light is flashing out a code - looks like 13, circuit shorted to ground from what I can tell. That or 31 maybe. Don't know what that one would be. Keep that camera!

Used to be the "Heavy Line " guy at local Dallas Ford/Lincoln/Mercury dealerships from 90 till 2004. Engine replacement ,overhaul, oil leaks, etc. These Town Cars/ Grand Marquis had a ride of their own. Like a cloud. But, when we replaced the airbags we replaced the module as well and re-grommet the air pump, saved a alot of re checks. [customer returning for an air bag light] Pricey but worth it. FYI these engines usually had a 421 code if I remember correctly, DPFE sensor. it is located on the back of the right head with one connector and 2 short vacum hoses. They would get water in the sensor and short out. Their was a recall/TSB on the exhaust pipes/ muffler/ resonator as well. the pic @12:38 was were they used to rust out prematurely. Other than that the 4.6 surprisingly ran well.

The common shifter problem is loose screws at the BOTTOM end of the mechanism, by your feet. Trust me

Time for a new shift tube under $30 and about an hour or so job. Airbag 13 code, check the 2 fuses and the crash sensors for corrosion. Usually have to clear the codes manual. Check engine light is probably the beginning of clogged EGR channels.

I wouldn't mind having that old town car just lay back and chill and hit the Tennessee mountains boy that sounds good.

I watch a lot of videos but I think I watched first video of yours today. When you found the 1994 Lincoln Town Car and said a lot of people do not like when you buy junk like this.... I would not be too big of a fan buying gas for the V8 but still a fun car to work on and bring it back to life.

Randy; willing to bet that the shift linkage bushings are worn out. Replacements will take out the slack and fix the lever position. Always set your parking brake while under a vehicle on a jack. Good Luck 🍀 on the paint and sale.

I really hope you fix the shifter. With it being that loose and wonkey it could be an accident waiting to happen to someone else. The car already had an accident because you weren't sure of the gear it was in when you jumpstarted it. That could happen to someone else if you sell it with the shifter still like that.

Love seeing "Kristy" here and there. I go nuts seeing her. You brought back memories about the Stinking Lincoln jumping out of gear. My "62" Chevy did that to me all the time and my starter went out and hot wired it to start it from the battery. I forgot about the darn shifter and the car went flying into to reverse and smacked into a brand new "1974" El Camino and tore up the drivers door. I went to go tell my neighbor and he said he wasn't worried about it because it was a loner car. (???????) I was scared he was going to hurt me but nothing ever came back to me about it. I was just lucky. I did have insurance. The air bags on the Lincoln need replaced.

I had that same problem with my 96 grand marquis. Its the shifter bushings, they have a kit for $20 that has the 2 plastic bushings and 2 metal plates with screws. That will fix the issue.

I remember something about jumpering some pins on the OBD port and counting how many times the check engine light flashes

I have a great memory of driving across country in a rental town car same year with family when new. It was amazing ride was fantastic, trunk had are whole family's luggage good mpg, it was modern tech when these were new like light years!

First, I'm glad you're okay. The shifter should be repaired, and I believe it is worth it for video time. Ask Macco if they can reclear the hood, roof and deck lid instead of a full repaint to save money. Repainting it the original color will do nothing but help the car. The scratches on the '57 should buff out. The new camera is excellent.

The shifter is adjustable by the transmission take a couple minutes it would be fixed

And the intermittent air suspension is because of a slow leaking bag or fitting on the air supply lines. Put it on the lift and use soapy water in a spray bottle around the bags and hoses and listen for hissing and bubbles. It's a fantastic car. I wish I could buy it because I need a bigger car due to back problems. I'm 61 years old and 6'5 and 315 lbs. I was a mechanic and machinist for 30 years

Love your videos Randy…looks like you have had some great luck at the auctions lately. Looks like the shift linkage needs to be adjusted or the bushings are worn. That shift linkage being off could also be the source of your starting problem.

No Randy! Keep this Lincoln for Nicks first vehicle!! It may be a little while, but it's the first vehicle he drove. It has sentimental value... Doing so will make the memory more clear in the future.

The wire race behind steering wheel is usually the issue you can check the cruise control feature and you will know if that clock spring wire chase is bad

Good Coverage On The ‘94 Lincoln Towncar Randy, She’s Cleaned Up Well..

If you pull the bottom off the driver side of the dash and look under it with a light while you jiggle the shifter, you'll see where it connects to the shift linkage. There's 2 small bolts on it that back out every once in a while and cause it to be loose and not fully engage park. My 1994 grand Marquis used to do that about every 6 months.

At the common problem with those if you look underneath the dash where the steering column is there should be to T25 or T30 Torx bolts that have work themselves loose tighten those up and your shifter will be good to go just like new I've done this on for vehicles now works every time

On the transmission there is a set nut that goes to the shift cable my old ford did that you use 2 wrenchs and have some one move the shift lever and you can adjust the shift cable. Be safe nice car .

That shift lever has adjustments for the correct positions. Maybe there is a bad bushing in the linkage.

I use a paper clip on my 94 K5 Blazer to check the OBD1 codes. Is that something you can do on any OBD1 vehicle?

Randy, there's 2 torx bolts on the bottom of the column that are most likely loose causing the shifter to not go fully into park. Had the same thing happen with my Sable and my brothers Grand Marquis. Take one screw out at a time, thread lock and tighten, then do the other and you'll be good to go! Love me some Panther! Such nice riding cars being the last full frame cars in production till Ford decided to kill it

It has a EEC4 computer system all you need is a test light and count the blinking light for your codes

Randy I was told that the vacuum test on the A/C is not 100% effective, reason being is that sometimes it sucks the O rings to seal as long there is vacuum and when you put in the new Freon it leaks back out. I was told that putting in a dye and Freon and run it and look for the leaks by seeing the dye is the best way to find a leak. Where you find the dye on any line or compressor you find the leak.

Video quality is definitely worth it! Your audio since the Rode Mic has always been pretty dang great! That shifter is a common problem on and column shift Ford/Mercury/Lincoln of that era. Very common on a Taurus/Sable which use the same steering wheel. Usually the bushing need replacing if I'm not mistaken. Worth fixing for the piece of mind. Had a friend with a 94 Taurus where it wouldn't shift anymore from that and got stuck in neutral and wouldn't start. Replaced the part of the shift in the column and it worked like new again. Cheap parts too.

For the air bag light I suggest you check the wires under the front seats, Maybe unplug each one and check them for broken wires or a ground and lubricate them with lithium grease and replugged them in. That's what I think is causing the problem because it happened to my car and that's what it was
