The worst areas of New Hampshire are really bad. Wow!
For this episode of dashboard tours, I took i93 south from Concord, the capital of New Hampshire and headed to the city of Manchester. My goal would be to drive through one of the very few bad areas in the whole state of New Hampshire. The area I picked is in a rundown part of town just outside of downtown Manchester. But as you’ll see, bad for New Hampshire would be good for a lot of the rest of the country.
It was a late winter day, but the sun shone bright. The day was Sunday, March 21, 2021 at about 1 pm.
We’re going to begin downtown to lend some perspective. As you can see lots of people were out and about and downtown is very vibrant. Then, we’ll turn into a neighborhood that’s widely considered to be the most rundown and crime ridden in Manchester. There’s a reason people in New Hampshire call this place ManchVegas.
Here’s the route you’ll take. Again, once we get into the bad part of town you can make your own assumptions. To me, it wasn’t that bad at all, but I had just been to Philadelphia a couple days ago, so my perspective is skewed at this point. This also puts into perspective just how good a state New Hampshire is. I mean if this is one of the worst areas in the state, then they are quite lucky, I’d say.
Here is the rest of Manchester New Hampshire’s worst areas, and some of the worst areas in this entire state.

You drove right past my house! This area is clearly not the best part of Manchester but it's as affordable as it gets. Our unit is a 2 story 3-bedroom townhouse and has a private driveway and private fenced back yard with a deck. We would never be able to afford this in downtown Boston. I know because I've lived in downtown Boston. Manchester is a very livable city - not too small, not too big. We don't have the immense gridlock of the bigger cities but we're big enough to have lots of options for shopping, recreation and cultural events. And we're about an hour away from the mountains, the ocean, and Boston if you crave a big city experience.

Vermont has some pretty bad Ghettos and is much more lenient on Drug crimes. VERMONT caters to the poor who sell the drugs and the wealthy Drug consumers and is driving the middle class who pay most of the taxes out at alarming rates. Thats pretty much it though. NH is a wonderful place minus the cost of housing and having to commute for jobs. Also, there is a massive housing shortage. Manchester native and West Side resident for most of my life. About 40 years ago the Federal Government decided that Manchester would be a refugee relocation center. During those 40 years Manchester has had thousands of refugees dumped in our city. Most have been great citizens who have prospered and are a great part of the community. Going in the less favorable sections of the city and you will find the refugees and others who have not thrived. Overall though Manchester is thriving with high tech start ups and a young and growing population. You are near my house at the start of the video. Let me know of you come back again, I'd love to get together.

As a new Hampshire resident, I would not clasify that worst area of New Hampshire. I see well kept homes and tenement houses very well kept. I see no graffiti. I know this area , because I worked one time in this area as a freelance electrician. People paid their bills. Hence there are no worst areas of New Hampshire. In comparison to other states, i.ll take this area over any other area. The only problem I see with the state as a whole is high property taxes, high electric rates, and the severe lack of rail public transportation.

Your summary at the beginning is spot on. I’ve lived in 11 states and NH was the nicest overall. Sure, it suffers from the same social issues as everywhere else - only less so. It’s a state where the worst parts are basically any of the low end apartments that have a Section 8 component. Not one area is dangerous to walk through, unlike what you see in most other states. It’s a really nice state, though the climate may be too cold for some.

I live in a "not very good" neighborhood in a mid-sized college town in New Hampshire. Looks similar to what you've depicted in this video. I freely go walking in the neighborhood and I've never been harassed or felt unsafe. Neighbors are friendly, although some of them may have a substance abuse problem that I hope they're able to recover from. I live in this "less than" neighborhood because the rent is more affordable. For many of us, it comes down to living where the cost of housing is affordable.

I grew up in Keene and the problem with the cost of rent there is specifically due to having the college downtown. There are a lot of less than lovely neighborhoods around the college where the landlords get a fortune for a ghetto quality apartment because they don't rent them to just one person. Three or four students will all go in together on a large apartment that goes for say $2000/month, I'm just using a round number here for an example. If there are four kids living there that comes to $500/mo each which is cheap for them and they don't really care what the total monthly rent is. But then landlords that have apartments away from the college look at what these crappy apartments are going for downtown and say to themselves if they are getting this for that then I should be able to get lots more for my place that is in a much better neighborhood and in way better condition. This ends up making it really difficult for families or single people to be able to afford to live in Keene because the rent in nice areas is through the roof.

Yeah we've got the blinking lights to signal parking bans but people ignore them and leave their cars on the road anyway. There isn't enough parking to get them off the road, so what are they supposed to do? I live on a tiny side street and our neighbors constantly leave their cars out cause they have no off street parking. The plow can barely get around them and it makes the streets a mess.

There's a section where it's mostly apartments and multi family houses. There's also alot of BAD graffiti in some places. We stayed downtown at that Tru Hotel. The neighborhood at night is pretty quiet and they have a great taco spot. Sketchy people are out creeping as well! Thanks for this because it helps me alot. It's inspiring! Take care! ✊🏿

The historic district of Louisville, Ky; called "Old Louisville"; and the neighborhoods around the beachtown of South Haven, Michigan. Both neighborhoods have a mix of houses that range from plain apartment buildings to 100 year old ornate mansions, almost zero houses less than the national average home price. The roads could use some maintenance, but other than that it looks like some of the nicest places I've personally ever lived.

Funniest thing to me is that you literally drove by my house in this video. I have lived in this neighborhood since 2004 as a kid grew up in the same place now I'm 24. It didn't used to be like it was today I remember I used be outside all the time with other kids hanging out playing at that park. Over the years there was an influx of crime that sprawled out of no where my parents car was broken into over night which is crazy because it was a well lit area with tons of people around. Every time I locked up one of my bikes up they would come and tear open the lock and steal the bike. Moving to NC soon but Manchester is not as bad as some other places I have visited in recent years.

@AcTua98
@AcTua98 Жыл бұрын
@@1supermiguel I primarily choose North Carolina due to the Rent being a lot more affordable. unfortunately that's another issue with NH is the proximity of Boston and it being New England, increases rent and housing costs and availability. I plan on moving back to NH it has so much to offer for it's size like the white mountains, trails, a shore line with a well known beach "Hampton". I personally would not recommend living in the Manchester area! I would recommend the outskirts like Hooksett, Bedford, Goffstown and many more. If you like more isolation then you can consider the northern part of the state especially if your more in tune with nature and the outdoors it's gorgeous in the spring and summer with plenty of things to do.

@@justinvachon3839Bro. I felt the same way. I’m from Providence RI. I moved to Columbus Ohio for 3 years and lemme tell you, I couldn’t appreciate and love my hometown even more. There is no place like home. Trust me when I say this. You may hate New England now, but when you leave it and explore the country. You begin to love and appreciate home. Ohio is actually dangerous, there’s actual slums there and the crime is really rampant. I swear this on my mother’s soul, I had a shooting happen right behind me while I was in my car with my wife and kids. The man that got shot, died right there. My son had to see that at 6 years old. Please believe me when I say this. That if you are a New Englander like myself, appreciate this place. I know it can get annoying. I know it’s small. I know it’s expensive af. But appreciate it cuz it’s better than lot of other places. Believe me brotha.

Decent policing, a working public, and constitutional carry I suspect contribute to NH being better than a lot of places. Oh, and we don't have income or sales tax, so we can't afford people who won't work.

One pet peeve of mine about Northern cities that I cannot stand is everyone has to park on the street because people either don't have a driveway or it's not big enough to accommodate it's residents, much less any visitors vehicles.

In New Hampshire, overgrown grass is a bad neighborhood, either that or the libertarian community there says I’m growing my grass long and no guberment going to tell me what to do.

People got hooked on painkillers b/c of injuries, mental issues, the weather, and b/c life is hard and not fair, and then that turned to heroin b/c it's cheaper. You can only pick yourself up and dust yourself off so many times. We need to go back to state funded Poor Farms and Poor Houses where people can dry out.

Their hill setup is similar to the hill on E Lincoln st from Mascoutah Ave in Belleville Illinois on the way down to South High street but where those the same urban planners that planned the lay out of the old cities back then ?

They are multi family houses. They were mansions back when Manchester was a thriving mill city but now they’ve been split into 2-3 family units.

These are all multi-family apartments, usual size of units is 800-1,200 sq ft. And because they’re conversions, the insides can be very strange.

It's still bad though. Especially in warm weather, though when I went through last week it was not even all that bad, I was just on the verge of kicking someone in the face because the roads are rough. The druggies are common and homeless too, but like people from NH say it's the worst homeless and stuff but I have been to Portland Oregon, and I can tell you that city had me screwed up, never seen so many blocks of homeless and drug abuse in my life. And when I grew up in FL I seen some horrible things, I mean HORRIBLE. So I'd say Manchester as bad as it is, it's not bad, it just needs to start working towards a better environment before this new day and age bullcrap successfully ruins it. It's already starting to go downhill cuz of this while 2019-2022 crap
