I've been renting for 8 months. Monthly cost total including charging was 2100 dollars but i was pulling almost 8k. You gotta get out and work. Thinking about the 60 something dollars youre losing a day is a negative mindset. Charge is only 15 a day for me. You have a tesla 2021-2022 tesla model 3 so you can charge to 100% of the usable battery. I was making 250 to 350 a day. Takes 30min to charge per day, I clean the car in and out during that time. I was almost making 2k a week. You gotta optimize your tip potential by having clean car, being personable, offering small bottled water, driving safe, etc. I drive about 40 hours a week. Hope this information helps someone trying to decide.

@None it's not for everyone. If you think in a negative way, it will be so. Try to have fun out there, and your passengers will be at ease and tip you accordingly. Maximize tip potential. Hit all their senses. Ears, eyes, nose, touch, and even taste. I'll help you out. Ears: play well liked music not too loud ex the Beatles. Eyes: Keep your Tesla clean in and out, especially your back glass where they will be looking out the window. They only see your car outside for seconds they stare out their windows for 12min straight. Also you're in a tesla. Eye category is covered. Nose: Buy a scent stick, essential oil drops, or even a car freshener. They should not be able to smell you at all. Nobody likes your perfume or cologne. Touch: keep the outside handles slick and clean. Wax the exterior with spray wax. Keep thr inside touch points none greasy the leather keep it clean, belt buckle points clean anything they touch. If it's cold throw the heated seats on in the back for them. And taste: yeah I said taste go to the store and get tiny bottle of water packs, assortment of gum, I tried mints but people like gum it stays with them for a while. DO NOT LEAVE gum and water for them to grab themselves. Keep it in the front with you and ask them of they want the items in your intro. You handing then the item creates a bond and a reciprocal bond where they will tip you at the end as long as you speak to them in a regular humanized natural way during the ride. Pretend you're speaking to your friend or family. Be natural and be you. Make sure they see you as a human doing Uber not just a uber driver. Drive safe my man.

Hello, I'm in Houston, and I have run potential numbers for the same venture here. I drove Uber before successfully in my Elantra. I am currently a platinum driver or Door dash, clocking over 55 hours every 6 day work period. If I see the discipline and ethic to do that, I assume I could transition to Uber via Tesla rental well. I took note of your comment. One would need to put in work to get out the desired result. I would drive in my area around 55hours per week. Any advice? Asian, thank you kindly.

Fascinating commentary. I too did Uber in 2015/2016 so I was surprised by the changes for drivers. Definitely agree that it makes more sense to have your own vehicle. I actually bought a vehicle and did Uber on the side on nights and the weekend and paid most of it off in around 8 months. Still driving it today. What people don't understand about gig work is that it's not the same as going to the office. You actually have to hustle ALL THE TIME or it's just not worth your time being out. Would I ever go back and do it again? Hell no!

You're really not your own boss with Uber and Lyft Uber and Lyft have a rating system and their rating system is not favorable for the drivers you'd think that they would be on the driver side but I'll be honest with you they don't want you to drive that long for them. There's a science to what they're doing they run so much advertising and they get everybody to try it so after about a hundred million people try it they make a couple hundred billion simple math. They like people to come and go because they don't want us suing them for not paying us properly. When the states figure it out that these app companies like this are taking so much off the top so we're unable to pay our taxes and make ends meet they will shut them down and or they will be sued if they can find us people after we've been scammed for working for Uber and working for Lyft to pay us what we should have been paid properly I used to work for Uber I used to work for Lyft and I used to work for yellow cab they all scammed us they made Bank while all their workers cringed but see they'll never find us to pay us our retroactive pay that they owe us and they know it. So really the SEC needs to look at these app companies like uber and Lyft and make them pay properly. That's my truth that's my history. ✌️

The Hertz huge rental payment makes using a rented Tesla a non starter. If you were really interest in making more than just self indulgent, pointless content you might advise some of the following. Supercharging is the most expensive way to fuel an electric vehicle. Having an EV charger and charging at home on low cost off peak overnight tariffs is the cheapest way to fuel your vehicle yet very few highlight this obvious money saving activity. The cheapest way of owning a Tesla is to buy it from Tesla, seek funding from credit unions and lenders which have lower borrowing rates. If you can get over the steep purchase price you’ll soon discover that the Tesla is very very cheap to run. I have listened to countless rideshare drivers say that it’s like having an almost free car as the tax milage deduction rates cover the running costs. You just need to buy one as cheaply as possible.

It takes about 20-22 hrs to satisfy the rental plus gas… in a non-EV I worked my butt off 2.5 weeks while I was getting my engine replaced but it saved me from losing my apartment. Stressed tired and I was under the weather…. If you are in a tight situation, you have to do what it takes to get yourself from falling in a deep hole or getting out of one.. the pay was even lower than it ever has in 6 yrs I was driving. At 57 yrs old it confirmed I am still able to step up and make things happen in a down economy.. However, I’m applying for a full time job with benefits and set hours. No health insurance so I must pay 3k in fines… Oil changes every 30 days, 80.00 car washes 2-3 times per week. Gas average Is $30-35 per day. Working 7 days. Sleep pattern is all over the place. Moody, stress sleepy so I have to take car naps risky & dangerous…traffic slow downs all day long in Dallas now Time to work full time with unlimited overtime. Gross about $1000- $1300 55-60 online hours. You can’t put away 20% for car repairs services. Write offs only pays part of the taxes.. Riders won’t let you listen to music or talk shows with ear buds.. they constantly looking at your phone reading your text messages. They do not need to look at my phone when they have the same They get to distract you… and text you when you go to pick them up. Calling you while you are in route to pick them up putting you at risk…but Don’t dare touch your phone to accept rider request. Some act as though you should give them VIP Ted carpet treatment. Don’t tip unless their job pays h for it. Too cheap to get luxury professional drivers. It’s more strict than working 9-5 job. This job is for quick money, after work or school pocket change. Moms that children are in school but highly would not recommend kids or females and feminine men to do rideshare. Very dangerous, crime is worse than ever and everyone is speeding cutting you off.. uber monitors even non- working hours. “Are you speeding “ mall roads and on- off exit ramps.. no rider in car. It’s like big brother.

I have a free charger close to my house, so I pay nothing for gas. I drive 40 hours a week and save somewhere between $150 to $200 on gas based on where gas prices are at. Then there's all those miles you'll be putting on a vehicle that is not yours and not worrying about maintenance. Bottom line I've discovered using the rental program: if Uber is your side hustle, it's not worth it to rent. If Uber is your full time gig, it is worth it. 30 hours per week bare minimum. 40 hours ideal. Anything above 40 is just that much more value. Math changes of course if you pay for the super charging, which is half the price of gas or better in my area.

The Difference is with a Tesla that you forgot to mention is that there is no maintenance on it which means no oil change and breaks every couple months compared to your personal car. I use to spend 1200 in gas a month on my ford explorer the payment and monthly oils changes and brakes everyear come out to about the same monthly costs. But because it's a tesla people like it more and give you more tips( this is a faxt for me) and not to mention sometimes you get premier and comfort calls which make a little more money. I also use the tesla for my daily commute so I save $20 on gas five days a weeks which is extra money in my pockets

In Philadelphia we get the option to drive Premier or Uber black rides using the model 3 Tesla ran it through hertz. Plus driving a Tesla is freaking awesome!

But let me tell you the real deal, that only lasts about a month. After the first month you have to renew through Hertz and in Philadelphia it's a nightmare. I've seen so many people get screwed out of two to $5,000. I've seen people lose their cars from accidents when they were supposed to get replacement vehicles. I've seen people have their charging ability shut off because they didn't respond to a phone call or an email. Everything is an algorithm and they are understaffed understaffed it's a nightmare.

@@becm1395 yup. I ditched hertz as that program ruins uber drivers. I purchased a 2020 model 3 and my wife and i currently split shifts driving it. The strangest thing is when I run into someone who’s been renting a Tesla for at least six months, and I told him about my Premier rides, and they immediately respond,” what’s premiere mean?” 😞. Although a lot of the dedicated UberX drivers, don’t care what Ride take it or where it goes they accept everything and that’s how they make their money. Premier drivers are picky and choosy and probably have spent a year or more dedicated to just UberX rides and they are over it.

I have a Tesla, and I tried Uber/Lyft for a bit. The car got good reviews from the passengers, but I simply hate transporting passengers because they want me to break all sorts of rush-hour/bus lane rules for their convenience. I don't like doing that, so I'm back to running parcels and crap. At least parcels don't get grumpy when the operator prefers to follow the rules. I'm in Vancouver, so the fuel savings here are obscene. An EV definitely makes sense in this market. Tomorrow is the five-year anniversary of my switch to EVs; so far, I've been given no reason to regret that decision. My fuel savings so far are close to $30k CAD. I've saved on maintenance too, but I pay more for insurance, so those two cancel each other out.

When comparing, Tesla to your own vehicle, you have too look at your personal vehicle having a cost. But you didn’t even talk about the Tesla experience at all. Most of it was about money. I find the Tesla model 3 as being to small for me to climb into, and I’m not a fan of taking normal controls and throwing them into a menu. Example when it rains the wipers turn on(awesome), but when the rain stop and the window is clean of water the wiper keeps going and in order to get it to stop you need to open a window on screen and turn it off.

Good point. Never even thought about that! Although after about a year im still getting pretty nice tips. But premier tips will always be higher because its a percentage relative to the cost of the overall trip. And premiers pay double or triple the cost of an x or comfort so a 20% tip will always yield higher on a premier then x. I only take premier rides and its really impossible to gauge why a driver is not getting tips. Uber drivers are truly a superstitious bunch 🤣

Since I have kids my schedule didn’t work for me and I was paying $415 a week. Just started to use my other car and did DD and Uber. Eats and make around $160 a day.

So I know I’m super late but just came across this video as I am going to switch from renting a gas vehicle to a Tesla. My issue with the gas 2021 Nissan that I’m having is I’m spending 500+$ in gas a month sometimes more because this car says I get on average 30.06 mpg but after driving on a full tank and getting all the way down to 1 gallon left I actually average only 25-26mpg which is horrible I’ve had the car since august of 2023 since my last car was stolen twice and hasn’t been located and unfortunately ultimately paying the costs for that I’m going to switch to see the difference and see if it saves me money but your video did give me a lot of insight ❤

since uber and lyft take 50%+ comission and every expenses are covered by us, they should obligate people to tip us, that would help alot, but they dont care, our car with the time get scratches every were in the interior and they dont pay for that either.

Bro, you have to grind grind grind if you run a gas car. Not only are you paying expensive rental fees something closer to $300 a week, you still pay for insurance, taxes, other fees, and gas. Not to mention if anything goes wrong with the car such as oil change or tires need to be replaced, they typically make you use your time to replace those things at a service center instead of giving you a fresh vehicle and handling it on their own. It’s really a nightmare unless you’re working full-time fortyish hours some get away with 30 hours and some people like me can ride almost 80 hours a week seven days straight.

@GoodGuysMedia
@GoodGuysMedia 9 ай бұрын
Its not just the fuel which will be double at minumum and in some cases 4-5 times more expensive keep a gas tank full vs the charging costs. Where you do save is TIME. Imagine its Saturday night and all the spots are about to let out in the city and the streets are surging and the map is red… and now imagine you only have 11% battery left…. And you will either have to do a short 15 min charge or will have to sit for 20-40mins for a full charge. 🤦‍♂️ its happened to me and changed the way i drive. But only changed for the better. Gas engines have more maintenance but in 1 min you could have enough gas to go out make $200 And there are far more gas stations vs charging stations. I can go on and on about this

Do not count tips and bonuses. Tips and bonuses are not wages and are not reliable enough to plan for. They are considered other income but not wages. Therefore, subtract them from the earnings to get the real amount of compensation. Once you minus expenses, tips and bonuses from the the total earnings then you have the real number of what was earned. If the compensation without tips and bonuses is below whatever amount is needed to operate then you are out of business. Do not plan for tips and bonuses.

You drove half time not full time and thus your sample size isn't adequate to render a valid argument against renting a Tesla. Before I got pneumonia last week I made $839.32 in 3 days at 30h14 and 56 trips on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at having to stop because of illness...and this was my very first week doing rideshare period after doing DD and UE since last April. Had I worked the rest of the week and the weekend I estimate that I would have made 2100-2300+ and I had 9 comfort, comfort electric and green rides out of the 56.

But what if you subtract wear and tear/gas/maintenance on your vehicle? I saw a breakdown, and if you charge your car during breaks that you should be taking anyways, don't deduct the time it takes. Also, has is going to cost you about $100/wk easy. Then, if you have to pay a car note, subtract that. I think in the end, you deduct peace of mind off not worrying about breakdowns and other car related expenses. You make more in the short run, but the mileage alone on your car, deduct the value lost. These values are going to be different for different people. Oh, then subtract insurance. That's $180/mo easy. Of course, that's if you don't have your own car at all, and you would have to pay that extra if you got insurance. Yes, it's cheaper to buy a used Corolla for $15k and wow it is as a work vehicle, but you have to be disciplined enough to set money aside for the unexpected. For me, I have a $350/mo car note, plus $140/mo insurance. $35 gets me 450 miles if you included 60 Miles of range on the battery (I have a Chevy Volt), but now I need $2300 in repairs and the car only drives on reduced propulsion mode, and it's tricky to get it to cut on. So, I have to rent a vehicle. Truthfully, I'm only renting the Tesla to try it out. I used to drive the same hours as you, and I brought in that same amount on average. Now, I'll have to start driving 12 hour days for it to make sense, plus an extra work day. Let's call that $1200/wk to be very conservative. I'm working a full week plus overtime just to pay for the car and peace of mind. The next 3 weeks, I'm not stressing. A full week to cover rent/mortgage, a full week for extra living expenses, and a week for saving. 2 months of that, I can get my car repaired, and device if I want to buy an all electric vehicle. I'm probably going for the Hyundai Ionic 5 or 6. Maybe even a used Model X long range.

Has the IRS ever checked ride share drivers for miles driven per year ? I don't think so...so for example if you drove 10,000 miles for uber and 10,000 miles per year for personnal .. you could say you drove 15,000 miles for business and deduct >60 cents or so per miles. I can't see how the IRS could check people or. have never heard of anybody being audited for miles driven. Now if someone claims 50,000 miles per year for ride share then yes , you could be audited. ..... but never hear of any ride share people being audited... has anyone else heard this ? ?? (note I 'm not a ride share driver and pay my fair share of taxes).

@@skep2 the best part about renting the car is that you pay a high premium to avoid losing value of your personal car driving over full-time the miles you put on it losing resale value, etc. Also, the maintenance on the Tesla is up kept and driven safely isn’t nearly as high or cumbersome as a gas engine maintenance. I’ve only had to do or replace tires and rotate tires and windshield wiper replacement over the past year, however if you do damage the vehicle or something goes wrong after warranty the cost to repair and replace things on the Tesla model three is grossly more expensive than a gas engine. Also, I need a door replaced, and my insurance will cover the damage, but they can’t order the door until after the second week in January. So I’m stuck taking Premier rides with a damage sideswipe door, because the authorized Tesla dealerships in my area all order their doors from Tesla and when Tesla is out or slow in production they all get affected. Anyway, I can go on and on about this if you need any more information or details.

@@skep2 with the rental car I could drive it full-time I could put between 6000 and 10,000 miles on it a month they pay for all tire rotations and tire replacements up to $1200 every other month that I drove full-time Hertz Uber Tesla. I’ve gotten into an accident where I’ve totaled a Tesla, not at my fault but because I had the insurance through Hertz, they took care of the whole ordeal. I paid nothing and they just gave me a new Tesla when one became available. Something I can never do with my personal car as it would’ve been a nightmare and insurance claims. those are just things to think about you full-time you’re on the road more and there’s a higher variance or chance of accidents or maintenance issues even with a Tesla.

Depends on the range of the vehicle and the charging rates at the locations. Standard range 250 ish miles, can be anywhere from $10-$20 a day of fulltime driving. The 2021 long range can get upto 350 ish miles and can easly cost $20-$35 (nearly doubled) per day About charging rates… Each location in philly has a daily rate or a variable rate. So by the airport, i charge cheaper after midnight 🕛 to about 8 am.But after 8am the Rates double. So its hard to say exactly. In philly, in one year, the rates went from .08¢ per kwh to .47¢ per kwh. Thats the differwnce between a $3.50 full charge and an $18 full charge. Per day. But still cheaper than gas
