One of the biggest complaints about this bike is that it is far too top heavy, especially when cornering.

Have my 502x for just over a year now. First thing you need to do is swap the pads for HH all over the stock are absolute rubbish. Second, Throw a 16tooth front sprocket on with a D.I.D X-ring chain. the stock chain rusts super quickly and was just meh , with the 16 tooth you will notice a reduction in vibrations on motorway riding and get a little more top end torque. Third , get LED bulbs and a decent set of auxiliary lights on it, the stock isnt bad but isnt good its just ..... meh. with a full LED kit this thing is a dream on dark back roads night riding. As for the windscreen , im 6ft 3 and bought the PUIG touring windscreen and can safely say there is zero wind noise of buffeting. stock exhaust is absolutely lovely and there is no need for an aftermarket can whatsoever. All in all i would say this bike is a dream to drive but has some nit picky hickups such as the breaks and the headlights. overall id say its a 7.5/10 from me and definitely worth considering for someone looking for the GS style and comfort without paying GS money.

Hi, I have been using the TRK502 ( without the X) since 2019. First series, with all the childhood diseases. Very, very comfortable and nothing has broken. Surprising even to me. I agree with: Glass - too low, Plastics - needed to be lined with foam. My version is without illuminated switches. And the brakes - the TRK502 has much stronger brakes than the X version. Four pistons on each front caliper. And the engine? I already know machines with 50000km on the odometer. Still all OK.

@@Bob-huisbaas TRK without X and TRK with X have different brakes. Take a look at the documentation and photos. Replacing the pads on the TRK with HH pads significantly improved their response compared to organic pads. Such is my experience and choice. The argument of other brakes for X - is in the offroad does not need 4 pistons. And less risk for dirty calipers.

Got a Benelli 502 (non-X) in 2021. There wasn't much inventory at that time and this was an unexpected option. Did 12,000+ miles in 14months throughout New England, Blue Ridge, Dragons, OBX, etc. Not a SINGLE HICCUP! Comfortable, smooth, MPG was >50 routinely and a couple of stretches up to 60mpg. The weight wasn't noticeable at speed as it would tip in easily and held a line nicely (with upgraded rubber to Michelin Road6). I intentionally went for the weight/power ratio as a returning rider and it didn't let me get in over my head. Even though I had the road-biased version, it handled a few intentional off-pavement sections (and a couple of Oh-shit-where-am-I navigational errors). Excellent value for the $$ but not going to get your adrenaline pumping if your looking for huge power and torque. A solid performer. Will instantly get the 702 as soon as they reach this continent.

My 502TRK as been in my ownership for 4yrs 6mth, 14k now lock down didnt help with mileage. However nothing as gone wrong the bike as performed faultlessly. The only thing I was not happy with was the dead feel to the brakes especially the back one, replacing with EBC pads transformed that and an elastic band chain which despite regular adjusting/cleaning/lubing only saw 6k. The bike as been parked outside with a cover since new ands as seen very little deterioration of component parts fixtures and fittings just given a dose of ACF50 once every 6mths. Despite the press and testers banging on about the weight cant say I ever really had an issue with it, mines the non X which is slightly lower. Would I recommend the bike yes and thats after 43yrs of riding everything from heavy weight cruisers to Fire Blades and everything else between. Thanks for the review, enjoyed it.

Fully agree, but judging by how many lower tier (not even top tier) Chinese or Korean bikes I see on the road, these bikes still have buyers. So before I forged my opinion, I wanted to sample the best of what China can make, really for my own benefit before anything else. I came out of it wiser. The West is still ahead, especially in QA, but not FAAAR ahead anymore, the best of China is catching up very quick. Thats ultimately good because yours and my favourite western brands will be pushed harder to make better, less expensive models. That benefits you and me. These might not be for everyone, but they indirectly benefit us tremendously. Thanks for stopping by !

@@UrgetoRide There are corners manufacturers can cut that you will not notice until it's too late - too little R&D for the timing chain guide rails, worse machining on combustion surfaces, less QC in general... Fortnine proved a while ago that the amount of metal shavings and other debris in new engines from chinese manufacturers is magnitudes bigger than from japanese, american or european manufacturers. That will lead to much shorter engine life. So who knows what corner they cut on the Benelli and when that will come back to bite you?

I did this too, back in December. I used to have a KTM 990 adventure before we had kids, then got out of the game a while, and wanted to get back into it on a budget. So I picked up a 502x. For the price, it's a fantasticccccc bike. I ride kentucky backroads and gravel, and I'm really enjoying it. There is a lot of vibration. It is a little slow on the highways. I've gotten up to 105mph with it pegged. So, it doesn't feel nearly as fast or as capable as my old 990 adventure.... but the catch is that I got it for 1/3 of the price practically new, with all the luggage too.

This used to be true, but not so much anymore. Royal Enfields are reliable as hell (granted, this is due to their rugged design). Ducati is getting much better, and so is Aprilia. BMW are nailing it reliability wise on their latest releases (+ their factories have nothing to envy on japanese ones). Even the brits are doing great with Triumph, and they know it: their servicing is every 16k. The only japanese brand that really stands out on reliability now is Honda, and even them screwed up on several occasions (that 1200cc engine that fitted the VFR1200 and Crosstourer...).

I'm not sure how I feel about a small engine in a bigger build. You buy in because it's cheap, cheaper than the other bikes, and it's no surprise the GS310 is more expensive, it has that badge and desirable connotation. is it true that benelli have problem if you ride them over 120km/h they start to tremble
@rednelli

TRK502 - normal highway it is 7500RPMs and about 140km/h GPS. Nothing like that. Maybe through the 300-500 rpm range you can feel the extra vibration on the pegs. In a very short range of revolutions.

It sure is a great bike with great success. But it has only one fault. The weight. If you have a chance try and ride a KOVE 500x, which has a similar power output, even better components and weights 40kg less. Pure joy of riding.

Out on the highway in a strong cross wind I think the weight could be quite welcome.

Nah A2 allows upto 94HP but then restricted down to 47HP. This allows you to take a legal risk and remove the restrictor on your bike. Legal... No, but there are plenty of bikes that have this as part of their hidden appeal.

"Dimensions of a bike 3 to 4x the power". Lol, the 1250GS only has 136 bhp, if you multiply 47bhp by 4 you get 188, not many adv bikes around with that power 🤣

Great review but I have to point out I disagree with the statement "adventure inspired bike". I have one and I do A LOT of offroad with it...even some enduro trails. Granted I come from years of enduro riding and I do have a decent amount of experience but still...this bike could do everything a GS does and it can do it on a budget. If you are somewhat experienced there is really no limit to where you can get with this bike. You might not be the fastest...for sure, but you will get there.

There's no bike i hate more than the gs. It's a huge (literally and figuratively) nerdbike. And way way way too popular. Every other bike on the road is one of those three meter high road tanks with some fat guy in a high viz jacket with an additional high viz vest on top... flip up helmet and too much money, having ridden zero miles on anything other than pavement. Lord I truly hate that bike because of what it represent.

It outsells the GS due to price alone. The quality of the TRK is poor a budget bike. However the price for a small entry level adventure bike ( if you dare go off road with it ) is right on the money.

Always had hatred on GS1250'S and the TRK502x, both are garbage tho. Here in Asia, the TRK502x is the closest thing these midlifecrisis taking, no taste dads can afford, and they also have terrible resale value and rep, alot I see get immediately get listed for 3 to 9 months of ownership and no one buys them
