You should check out Live Sh*t: Binge & Purge concert video. There's a cool moment at the 3:46 mark where Lars gets up from his drum kit, quickly runs up a set of stairs leading to a catwalk, runs around the catwalk, down another set of stairs where another drum kit and the rest of the band are, and just gets there in the nick of time to start drumming again at the 3:56 mark.

I got to go to the Whiskey-a-Go-Go on Sunset Strip when they were promoting this album. I got a free LP and the whole band signed it. I still have it to this day and will never get rid of it. It is still in the original wrapping and everything. I have been a HUGE fan of theirs since 1983 and do not go a day without listening to them. The passing of Cliff Burton was one of the saddest days in my life. They have not been the same band since. Don't get me wrong they are still one of the best they just aren't the same. I first heard Metallica in 1984 right after Ride the Lightning was released, I saw it at in a record store at a mall and liked the cover and bought it. The first song is Fight Fire With Fire which is Metallica’s fastest ever recorded song and I was blown away at 13 years old. Fun fact from my life experience about the four horsemen, when I was deployed in Afghanistan as a tank crew members, every morning I played this song as the fact we need 4 members to operate a tank and also, cavalry is the history of tanks, my mind said; that is the perfect song when I mounted inside my tank!

Funny story, that slower middle riff was actually inspired by sweet home Alabama you’re right. Dave mustaine played sweet home Alabama while all the members were drunk and Lars said “ye man we gotta use that on the album” so they altered it slightly and chucked it into the four horsemen and soloed over it. Man, taking me back. 1988, 17 years old. Smoking out and listening to Metalica was our thing... Always cranked. Our group of friends made our way to Tampa. Monsters of Rock in the "Old Sombrero Stadium" .... Hot hot hot day. Of course smoking and drinking all day... Groups: Kingdom come, Dokin, Scorpions, Metalica and Van Halen.... Metalica comes on and it gets cloudy and starts to rain... Lightning and thunder in the distance. Metalica just jammed the F out. The entire stadium was full and the floor was packed. No one sat then entire time. At that point, that was the best show I had ever seen. Tool at Oz Fest took that many years later. But, man, what a great Fn time that was! But everyone that got hooked on them during the mid 80s immediately went out and bought their first two albums.... If you had all their albums, you were the shat. Def remember firing em up and spending hundreds of hours tryin to learn their guitar riffs (remember KZfaq wasn't even thought of). Most had to learn by ear, a friend unless your family had the funds to buy the tablature books. Best era ever. Hands down. 80s!!! Glad i got to experience them.

The whole first album is incredible. Only a few bands have had such an epic debut, and they were doing things other bands had never done before. I listen to Megadeth and Metallica, but if I had to choose I would say Metallica. I did not care for the early Megadeth albums -- the first one I really liked was Countdown to Extinction. Whereas I loved every Metallica album up to Load, which I believe is their sixth studio release.

I remember my true first introduction to metallica was in the very backwoods of Georgia. I was working on an 18wheeler and our driver was visiting his ex and kids. So i was left out in the truck where they were playing Kill em All and Ride back to back on the radio. At first I was disappointed to be out in the middle of nowhere, but then I really just got in to the music. Middle of nowhere, dark, huge truck, loud stereo, it was just perfect. Been a fan every since. The next few days was interesting to say the least. Backwoods sheriffs, jails and all. ahh memories.
