@Andrew McEvans LOL key word in your statement is "97". I had a Ford Contour, manual 96. She had 240k when I bought her, had 350k when the oil light burned out, engine blew. My mistake was taking her to Walmart for a oil change just 3 months before the blown engine. That Contour gave me zero issues. 86 Mustang same, no issues. Seems Ford before 2000 is all good if taken care of.

We just sold our 2007 F150 and it had 242,000 on it. The only significant repair ever required was the power steering had to all be replaced. It was just worn out at 225,000 miles. The transmission still runs like new. Original engine, starter, alternator, radiator, differentials, you name it. The big things that destroy tranmissions is not changing the fluid and pulling in overdrive. I didn't put much into the truck other than normal maintenance and wear items.

Hi Scotty. I've got a 2012 F150. Not a previous Ford fan but at the time this F150 beat all others for drive and comfort. 197000 miles and runs great. Changed all fluids at 105000. At 120000 plugs and coils. Other than brakes tires and oil changes its been the most reliable I've ever owned minus front springs that broke on both sides. 5.0 6 speed smooth and we travel NY to Florida 2 to 3 times a year. Tow at times up to 10000 lbs but rarely that much. Most towing is 3000 to 5500 and watch transmission temp religiously. As for daily driver it's truly comfortable and friends love the room inside. I've heard good and bad about transmission. My belief is take care of fluid filter change before issues. All other fluids change at or before recommendation and drive till it won't go anymore. By the way lifetime fluid refers to fluidslife not people so when you are told it's lifetime still change it sooner rather than later

Just bought a mint 111,000 mile 2013 F150 5.0 4x4, 6-speed, single cab STX. Inside and out, it looks like it just came out of a dealer back in 2013. Even the stock exhaust still has the new silver/grey look. The engine bay is so clean, you can eat out of it. I was so impressed of how mint this truck is. I'm the third owner. All fluids have been regularly replaced and the previous owner replaced the main 3-piece coolant front y junction that was leaking. Just after I bought it, I noticed coolant began leaking down the back of the engine and onto the passenger manifold flange. Turns out it was the passenger side heater quick-connect o-ring that went bad and was leaking onto the valley between the head and the intake manifold, rolling to the back of the engine while driving. After driving my old 96' jeep 4.0 XJ for so many years, it feels like I'm driving a fancy large cadillac now. lol Very comfortable and has plenty of torque. Great pedal response for both the accelerator and the brake.

My next neighbor (a true Chevy lover) bought a Silverado four years ago... transmission grenaded in less than six months. Chevy replaced it, and within a year, rear end went out. Chevy replaced that, and then it was periodic slectrical gremlins and fluid leaks. Sold it before it was two years old, bought another Chevy Silverado - that was better until last year. Transmission started shifting hard, and he had an oil leak on the driver's side head gasket.

Drop the pan put a new filter retoque valve body bolts. If the first 2-6 bolts in the toque sequence are loose you have probably fixed it. All makes. Engine vibration likes to unscrew hardware. My '78 Chevy Monte Carlo had a transmission with plastic components, including the pan. Chevrolet & other GM vehicles that used that transmission had so many problems that this issue actually made it on a segment of the CBS news show '60 minutes'. I soon dumped that puppy, and we bought a new Nissan Stanza. That still holds the record for The Biggest POS We Ever Owned - multiple breakdowns within the first nine months, including a destroyed transaxle. The Monte Carlo looked pretty good in comparison.

Everyone always changes their engine oil, but how many neglect their other fluids? Then they wonder why they have problems when the mileage gets high. Change your transmission fluid and filter, and if you tow consider seeing if you can get a high capacity sump pan. I know theres a high capacity kit for that 6spd ford that offers almost double the capacity. Heat is great factor in automatic transmission life and itll kill em as much as never changing your fluid. Change your coolant, diff fluids and brake fluid as well at their recommended intervals, or more frequently if you tow alot. The small cost and inconvenience now will save you big in the future.
