I have to have been exposed almost constantly between my three jobs. I work as a librarian at a library, a server at a restaurant and a shipping clerk at a factory. The last two were essential, so I never stopped working. I also never got sick, despite working shifts with contagious people. If I did catch it, I never felt sick and it was never caught be a test. I've always assumed, that because of constant exposure, my immune system is always getting updated. But perhaps I am one of those rare few who genetically can't catch it. 🤔

I managed to dodge COVID for the past 3 years being super careful. I continued to mask in public even when most people abandoned it. What finally did me in was going on a group trip where one person was obviously sick and refused to test or mask. Travelling 15 hours with this person (including sitting in the same row on the plane!), finally did me in. I did wear a KN-95 mask while I was travelling, but did remove it to eat. This was also a case of where wearing a mask didn't completely prevent my getting infected, but reduced the viral load which fortunately resulted in a very mild case for me. My symptoms were a scratchy throat, runny/stuff nose and headaches. The rest of my group who weren't wearing a mask and got infected ended up with a hacking cough, fever, and body aches.

We're "NOVIDs". We changed the chess board, changed our lives, adapted to the new normal. Switched to home school, left my job, created two business, accepted a lower quality of life, and our immediate family is really close. We're all introverts, wife was disabled pre-pandemic (the reason for our "over the top" response), and we're nerds. Essentially we just peaced out on society. Don't miss it. :)

We did that for the first few years. Then we entered the real world again and haven’t stopped getting sick since. We used to be the type of people to rarely get sick. Our kids built up zero immunity to the everyday germs that people are exposed to regularly. Because of that they got a lot sicker for longer from normal colds. We regret our choice to stay in for so long. At some point our Dr. has assured us that we will build up immunity to all of this around us, but it has sucked so much. I think it is much safer to have regular exposure to these germs. Oh and when we finally got COVID it was no big deal. We feel robbed of a few years of our life.

@@rosegirl9874 nah, that's not how immunity works. It's not a mucle, you can't strengthen it. If you're constantly getting sick it's probably because Covid can harm your immune system which makes it much harder to fight off other infections. Your Dr. is misinformed.

Andrew, I feel the same way. I dodged it for 3 years and was feeling invincible. I got the 2 vax, but no booster. And then, out of the blue I get it and had to cancel my jobs for the week. However, the symptoms were worse than I expected. It was rather disabling, but I did all kinds of researching and by Day 5 of symptoms, it started to subside. I tried various home remedies and I like to think that 1 or all helped me. It's Day 6 and I'm about 85% back to normal. Lost 4# in 4 days, so I'm cautious not to push too hard and avoid a relapse. Thank you for your Pod.

I just got Covid yesterday, and my husband got it before I did. We never got vaccinated, but I was surprised we finally got it after almost 4 years since the pandemic started. I worked at an assisted living facility when the pandemic was at its height, and I never tested positive for Covid even despite being atound people who were sick. My husband worked at many different hospitals and dealt with Covid patients, but he never got Covid either unless we were both asymptomatic. My husbands symptoms were worse than mine...he had body aches/chills, fever, headache, sore throat, and cough. I've only had coughs and fever so far. So update! Now I have congestion and my ear was hurting yesterday. Also, I have lost my sense of smell and taste.

I feel like this is how I've been feeling about society as a whole for a while now. Growing up in the 90s, I did everything 'right'. I worked hard, I treated others respectfully, I obeyed laws. And now that I'm in my 30s I feel angry/foolish because it's like the people who were selfish, broke the rules etc "won". The housing market, the environment, the dating pool/scene, careers and moving up the ranks... none of my efforts really feel like they made me go further or be better off. I also only recently got covid for the first time this past August and it made me feel a sense of control over my own body was gone, so when I got it... I felt pretty defeated and worn down. I just am tired and questioning the way the world is headed and how I can find some peace in what I can control.

Thanks for masking and doing the right thing. I know it's hard, my girlfriend and I have avoided it so far. We mask anytime we're indoors, minus the 2 times we did indoor dining when cases (covid wastewater) were low. We try to do more stuff outside like hiking and fishing. We're millennials but try our best to do the right thing as to not infect anyone we come into contact with. Wish everyone would think about others and not cry about wearing a mask. it's really not that hard. At this point, it's more about protecting your family and yourself because the majority think covid vanished.

I finally got covid after dodging it for 3 years of wearing a mask and not being vaccinated, because I had already been vaccine damaged from Hepatitis B vaccine and wasn't willing to go through anything like that again or some more. Then my newphew came visiting my 95 year mother and I and using public transport and brought in covid. He got sick, but got better quick. I experienced a really bad 3 day toxic gallbladder attack right after my nephew left which left me really vunerable and I was already infected so of course I got perfect storm sick. I still glad I never got vaccinated. It's bad, but I've been sicker. Miraculously my 95 year old mother who I must cook for even while I am sick is still completely asymptomatic. I wash my hands and wear a mask when preparing food, but we are together in this small house and neither one of us is wearing a mask all the time. I am super careful, fully vaccinated and did everything I could to mitigate risk, yet I still got it after 3 years. Looking back, going the extra miles to be careful is probably not the smart thing to do. One element that is not talked about is seniors that have been very diligent and have not yet been infected. I would argue that as that group continues to age and become even more higher risk, their bodies' ability to cope with an infection will likely diminish as well and the likely of severe disease will only increase. If anything, you probably want to gain some level of natural immunity while you are still healthy. I also think NOVID is mostly a myth - a lot of people simply don't know that they were infected. I didn't even know I was infected until I decided to self-test using quick test kits that were expiring, not because I had some severe symptoms.

"I would argue that as that group continues to age and become even more higher risk, their bodies' ability to cope with an infection will likely diminish as well and the likely of severe disease will only increase" I see what you're saying but you're assuming they survive their first infection. "If anything, you probably want to gain some level of natural immunity while you are still healthy." People are definitely dying from their 2nd or 3rd infection, not to mention the damage it does to your entire body. I know a 79 year old who got it 4 times, and weeks after the 4th, he was still gasping for air just sitting at a table. Definitely a NOVID here. I haven't been sick for 4 or 5 years. I've been masking since march 2020, and looked like an alien with 3 heads to people while wearing an n95.

The difference between the % of Americans (94%) having caught Covid and Canadians (66% - a likely underestimate) is the widely accepted mask mandates and provincial lockdowns in this country as oppose to the US combined with higher vaccination rates. Mask mandates and lockdowns are tough medicine but they worked to suppress covid transmission.

My rights dont end where your implicit fears begin. I dont mock you for wearing your masks, but find it curious at best that someone wearing a masks feels so vulnerable they want to force everyone else to wear one as well. If your so fearful, why not wear 2? 3? 5? Or just stay away rather than insist everyone be locked up? Sir, your problem is not the endemic virus, your problem is the inability to control others you dont like. People like you remind me of the low eye cue seamstresses that ran Bergen/Belsen.

I would like to know more about the link between covid and the excess deaths around the world. Is this something you can/would look into with this show? It is hard to separate facts and reasonable theories from conspiracy theories that are presented as fact. Is there meat to the excess deaths being linked...and is there also a genuine affect on Alzheimer rates or is it hubub?

Excess deaths are because of covid, and not just from initial infection. People are dying months later due to their "mild" case. And for those that claim it's because of the vaccine, excess deaths rose before vaccines were ever in arms.

I am angry about getting covid for the first time in January because I got it from a sick person on the plane who coughed and sneezed on me for the 3.5 hrs duration of the flight. He was window seat and I was aisle. I think people should wear masks on all public transport. There are many immunosuppressed people who can only take public transport. I was double masked- N95 and a K95 over it and yet I still got sick. I’ve been in several meetings at work where 60% of my colleagues were sick and yet I didn’t get sick. This haplened constantly. My whole team got sick and I didn’t. So this just solidifies the fact that public transport, where there is no ventilation, is a perfect place for COVID transmission. Worldwide we should be masking on public transport. Edit: the man next to me on the plane was unmasked. The airline said they couldn’t ask him to wear one.

Glad you are well. Next month is my one year Covid anniversary. I had it bad enough it took 11 months to recover. Fully vaccinated, followed health and safety protocols. I also get my flu vaccine every year. Two important problems pre Covid: I’m an asthmatic and I am a complex autoimmune patient. I also had just had my annual bout of bronchitis for 8 weeks. My first time out of the house, we had to go to a big box store. The doctor recommended a super form fitting masks and while in the big box store, I ended up with a panic attack, speed walking out of the store, walking 60 ft away from the store and ripped off my mask, turning away from anyone approaching the store. Apparently I inhaled the aerosols of a very sick individual because within two days I was feeling very bad. Had I not had a CPAP machine, being able to be on it for over 36 hours, I would’ve had to go to an over filled ER. If you are a complex autoimmune patient, you do your best to avoid hospitals because there are so many kids of serious illness one can pick up while there. My beloved Spouse has never got Covid. One theory is that he’s constantly dealing with sinus problems. Andrew, once you reach 55 or so, please inquire about getting the pneumovax vaccine for the kind of pneumonia that kills people. It hits asthmatics really badly.

If very interested in the genetic variant. One of my children brought COVID home from day camp. My partner got sick but our other child and I were fine. We tested and no infection. We were ALL exposed because isolation from a young child isn’t possible. I’m not invincible and will continue to wear my mask in public where it makes sense and get boosters.

@@Louisthefur I’m assuming you’re probably not a medical professional and your assessment of what’s “absurd” is a personal opinion only. I chose to wait the six months though, because all the efficacy data showed that would yield the best results. But I did have the luxury of being in a work from home situation. It’s not for me to say what was best for people with much higher exposure risk, or health problems that would make getting COVID more dangerous for them.
