the pump you got is a crevice sucker and not meant to suck up tons of gravel, but only the last little bit of gravel at the bottom of a crevice or pothole. (so scoop it all out as good as you can, and only then use the pump!!) this pump, what actually collects the gold is the inside of the nozzle, as you washed out the nozzle. (and actually almost no gravel should come out the nozzle while using it, a sign that there is still too much loose gravel around, which a stuff up the rubber inside and makes it get stuck) next time round, please make sure to clean the whole pump of all sand and bits and adjust the rubber thing inside to work smoothly. Do all that at home. for big volumes, you need a yabbi pump which work just as the one you use, but without the nozzle. have a good look around at Vogus prospecting his channel. he explains it in several videos in detail. We are reworking an area done just last year, and you'd be amazed to see what gold was missed just by not pumping the bedrock spotless clean.

I made one of those suction pumps with tubes from the hardware store. I used a pool noodle as the gasket inside. You may be able to modify the gasket inside your pump and add a pool noodle or sponge.

If there is a wing nut at end of "rubber" stopper tighten that to squish stopper making the suction stronger against side of inside of tube. Dont make it too tight just tight enough to get good suction and that gravel wont go past stopper making it jam. Rinse it out well to get all the gravel now above stopper. Your panning technique is fine.

Enjoyed talking to you and digging out behind that big 'ol bolder with you today on the river. I still don't have a suction dredge but may try one out. Hope you found lots of gold! I think I found more poison oak than gold today ha

When I bought my crevice sucker, I was having problems with it as well. Turns out I needed to let the plunger soak in water for 5-10 min so it would create a better seal. My plunger was kind of leathery, I'm not sure what material yours is made out of though. Nice gold btw :)

Get a magnet and separate the concentrate and wash it again when you get home a second time!

Use the pump only at the end of cleaning up as you want to only catch the gold you cannot scoop out manually. It's your first time using it so will take time to get used to it...try to suck up and transfer to your bucket or pan as one movement quickly.. Test pan every now and then to see if you're still on the pay streak....you will never recover 100% of the gold no matter what you use. You're doing well and to go home with any amount of gold is a good day. It takes time to master anything and with gold no one is leaving the river with enough to retire on but keep at it as it soon builds up...once you have an ounce you can melt it all together and make a pendant from it to remind you that's your first ounce...or you can hold it or sell it....forecasts for this year is increase in gold price so good to sell when it's higher.

I have a pump like that and all you need to do is to slightly tighten or loosen it up so the rubber can the the vacuum needed without having friction on the pump wall. no need for duct tape or anything.

Dude take the end off and see if there’s a wing nut on the rubber insert? If so tighten the nut it should widen out the rubber to the sides of the tube and get better suction

Seems like an interesting idea. Just kicking up from the river is super steep, and sometimes the spots that are full of gold are quarter mile apart on rough terrain, so carrying something to heavy is a risk of falling

Bad design, that's high priced,it picks up the small gold a shovel can't get out of holes and crevices. I've seen gadzee and others use a turkey baster for small holes, crevices, cheap too, lol!
