Hi, crossbow enthusiast here. In some older crossbows, your bolt (arrow) actually can deviate from its original path. This is mostly due to the string becoming less like a cable and more like a noodle. In my expieriance, messed up sights can also majorly affected your aim. I know that this is just a glitch, but I think it would be an interesting little feature where the bolt's deviation increases as the durability decreases. Anyways, cool video =]

The reason the arrow seems to go sideways when it really goes straight is because once an arrow reaches a certain speed, the game can't comprehend what the heck is happening and can't load the model because it's too fast and the particle calculations screw up.

I remember playing in 2014 shooting a bow randomly and an enderman teleporting into the arrow and getting hit. Has never happened since.

Fun fact, in earlier versions of Minecraft (at least on Bedrock) Endermen could be hit by bow enchantments, the most blatent example of this was if you shot an Enderman with a flame bow it would still teleport away, but be on fire.

Arrow damage is proportional to its speed. So setting speed of arrow to light speed gives it a portion of light speed. Edit: Idk if it’s still the same, but last time I checked, arrow damage = 2 * velocity. The speed of light is roughly 3E+8 m/s, or 300,000 km/s. As such, the arrow would deal roughly 600 million damage. This can theoretically be done using red stone (assuming a PC powerful enough exists). Assuming the tps of that world is still 20, the speed of that arrow would be around 1.5E+7 blocks per game tick, or 15,000,000 blocks per in game tick. 1 piece of tnt will accelerate an arrow by 0.97 blocks per game tick, so about 15463918 blocks of tnt will be needed (rounding to one whole number). Due to the method of fire, this number will have to be a multiple of 4. As such a total of 15463920 blocks of tnt will be needed. If anyone can find a pc that can both move 15.5 million blocks of tnt at once and doesn’t already know what I’m on about, ask me how to proceed.

the piercing works because you do actually hit the enderman with the arrow, it just runs the teleport code instead of the damage code, and summons a new, identical arrow to replace the one absorbed by the enderman

the reason for why the arrows continue flying even after they hit a block is because arrows are given a speed attribute, and it's not reset in any way if it hits a block you can summon a very quick arrow into a block using commands and see this for yourself
