Huge heap of scrap! And plenty of treasures that are better than scrap! There's a big ol' mess and it needs to get dealt with before I bring anything else home, so today is the day. Big garage scrapping!
Wire stripper I use: amzn.to/3sirg18
The motorized stripper: amzn.to/3y0JMuQ
The wire cutters I like: amzn.to/2T6j3OW
The grips I recommend: amzn.to/2QCJmYl
The melting furnace: amzn.to/3EGxT2q
(If you make a purchase on amazon through the links above, a small amount of what amazon makes on the sale is shared with me. It's a great way to help support my channel, at no additional cost to you. Even if you buy something other than my tool recommendations!)
Please like/share this video if you enjoyed it, and subscribe to thubprint!

Maybe not *forever*, but it’ll likely last far longer than it’s needed! Probably replace some capacitors somewhere down the line but I don’t expect it to see 50k hrs uptime from here on out. Either way it’ll still be kicking long after all our flatscreens give up!

Congratulations getting the retro tech TV going. I recently scored a Samsung 20" CRT TV someone happened to be throwing out as I was looking through his kerbside pile. The remote was missing but you can get to the inputs without it. I found I had a spare Samsung remote in my stash of remotes which works. Battery cover is missing (!) but they sit in there pretty snug.

Nice classic gaming t.v. rare find the old consoles work so much better with those the new flat screens over excentuate the pixels
@thubprint
@thubprint 22 сағат бұрын
Absolutely, there were a number of ways the artists used the crt technology to blend the images or create transparencies that haven’t translated well to modern flatscreens. Not to mention the black levels and neat-instant response on the old tubes! You can get fancy upscalers that include crt filters to mimic the experience in a modern display and they’ve gotten pretty good, but they’re expensive little toys

Nice!! I’m pumped one of them actually worked! I thought about it as I was watching it, those batteries could be old as heck. The big one might just need fresh ones. Either way, I’m glad it worked out!

I just can't believe you wouldn't strip all of those cords, my guy. I do scrapping as well. At my scrap yard, number 2 insulated copper is only worth about 65 cent per pound. But if you strip it down to number 2 copper, it becomes 3.45 a pound. It's very worth your time.

You have my full support if that’s what you choose to do! I’ve done videos detailing my experiments with the best tools at my disposal and recording the time I spent doing it and for me personally, I found that 12ga solid-core wire is where it breaks into time well spent. I’ll strip anything 10ga and up, 12ga can be worth it if done quickly. But as with all these things it’s a matter of preference 👍

@@thubprint Yeah I took a look, I see what you're saying. I have a good amount of free time during the night after my day job to play around in my shop for a few hours before bed, not everyone has that luxury of course. But dangit, Thub, I hate seeing money go away like that. 😂😂 Power to you, though, you're doing great things out there and it's so fun to watch.

Please do not repair cables in this way, the small plug has sleeves inside that can be pulled out, new cables or new cables and sleeves can be put in
@thubprint
@thubprint 4 күн бұрын
The small plug? You mean the little white plastic one that plugs directly onto the board right? I think I have the tool to release the pins but crimping new pins is pretty difficult without fresh ones on hand
@milesreynolds4943

Even if you re-crimped the pins onto a new cable you'd lose the anchor point. The repair you have done will be sufficient it's not high amperage and like you said its for personal use
