“It’s okay to look fat” isn’t about being fat. He is talking about the diaphragm. Her “Caro Mio Ben” sounds atrocious because she has no breath support. He is telling her it’s okay to expand the abdomen and look fat because that means you are taking in the breath and releasing it appropriately. My vocal coach did the same for me because it’s not uncommon for people to breathe “backwards” (suck in breath bringing abdomen in).

This, yes. My best vocal instructor would have you put your hand on her stomach if you were comfortable with it. She got so tiny but filled herself up so large before singing, so quickly, almost violently- but controlled. You expand a lot when you're properly using your distance to sing. She'd always shake her head when she could tell you were feeling self conscious (defensive posture, crossed arms over a tummy in jeans) and say - "It's okay to look fat. You're going to look fat. Your voice is beautiful, use it."

Also, if anyone's interested, the guy that plays Kiwi is Johnny Lewis. He dated Katy Perry for a while and that was her inspiration for the song "Ur So Gay". He later went on to have a traumatic brain injury from a motorcycle accident and ended up murdering a woman who owned the apartments he was staying at. MrBallen does a really good retelling of the story and everyone here should check it out. I can't remember the name of the video but it has Katy Perry's name in the title.

@F&K9807 I disagree. You can act any script an infinite amount of ways because there are an infinite amount of personalities. More than likely, she didn't know how to act at all and just played every role as herself. Most of her roles were under one single contract including multiple movies, so I would be willing to bet they actually had to adjust scripts to accommodate her inability to perform. Good thing all the fans liked her anyway!
@propogandalf

@@mors_ontologica_9242 Uhh she's still acting right now and has played characters with very different personalities. But if we're talking just about that period of her life I was just watching a Cadet Kelly commentary and she plays a very different personality than she does in Raise Your Voice. Kelly is very confident, outgoing, and hyperactive

Loved this movie, yes I cried but then again...I'm an emotional person 😅 Watching this makes me realize how much I was really into Teen Bop Movies. Hillary Duff, Amanda Bynes and Lindsey Lohan movies were pretty much my favorite...and never realized how cheesy they were but that's OK 👍

22:33 I’m thinking what popular artists there were at the time of the movie came out who could pass as teens and had particularly strong voices and could belt. Mandy Moore and JoJo are the only ones who comes to mind who had similar youth appeal to Hilary. And JoJo’s debut single was not released until the month after they already started filming this movie. I think it’d be a stretch for Jessica Simpson or Christina Aguilera to play teens in 2003, as they were sexed-up pop stars by that point. But I guess they could, since Britney played one in 2003. But Christina was in the middle of her Dirrty Xtina era and would have zero interest in playing a wholesome teen Not really a belter, but Amanda Byrnes has a stronger voice than Hilary did too (see Hairspray) A movie this weak needed an established name to have any chance at turning a profit. A lot of movies like this did. I doubt Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen would have had any success if it did not feature Lindsay Lohan red hot off of Freaky Friday success. And nobody would have watched Crossroads without Britney.

My favorite one is still from Popstar where the main girl is in the car with Mr. Popstar, and she puts a bubble that has her saying "The wind hurts my teeth" LOL I legit crack up laughing even thinking about it. Also, when she inserts herself into the movies. One of my other favorites, is ofc ourse when she removes the music and/or sound for a scene, and replaces it with other sounds, including, (the always hilarious) fart sounds. Jaime, you are just so damn funny. Your dry humor and wit are top notch. The satire is fantastic. We have a very similar sense of humor. *P.S. Your singing voice IS AMAZING.* Are u cray girl? I moved from Arizona back to NC and the road looked similar and I guess my mind thought of it as the same. There was a median but in NC the median separated opposite flow of traffic but is AZ the road from my house there was a median the separated the frontage road from the main road. I turned onto the road driving in the wrong direction and my brother freaked the hell out. 😂 I pulled over and turned around. Luckily there was no traffic at the time.

I needed this laugh! I almost skipped this one, but I'm glad I didn't. Thank you! I also just love how you adore Jennifer Coolidge as she is one of my favorite actresses too! ❤❤

In the same way you have a falling compilation, you should do a compilation of every time in a movie where one character walks in on their love interest, making out with another character out of context and they run away upset.

Listen, you showed up and immediately I was like oh this is very Bailey Sarian. Oh this is very swoop. Oh, I’m so glad she did not let the fact others making similar content hold her back; because babe, it’s like saying there is other comedians I can’t steal that idea. I like it. I’m here for it.
