I was with you until the insensitivity about being an addict. It's already too stigmatized and most addicts are good people who got lost. The opioid epidemic in large part is due to drug companies being able to lobby congress and bribe doctors into overprescribing a highly addictive bandaid. People make the switch from pills to heroine when they can't afford their habit anymore but need to "get well." It's tragic

They didn't even do the Enemies to Lovers right. That trop only works if there is a significant character development and both have mutual respect for each other and push each other to become a better versions of themselves. It's not supposed to have bulling and power imbalance between the two. This movie failed so hard on that aspect... They were supposed to secretly admire each other's guts. So after watching this review I had to investigate as to why Cassie always had her hair tucked in because it was done so much in the movie it's clearly purposeful. And what I found out is apparently that was a decision by the actress who played her, Sofia Carson. Apparently she does that herself in her day to day life and decided to incorporate into Cassie's life and also that in so many scenes Cassie is so emotional and sad that she didn't want the hair to get in the way. But it's kind of funny that she didn't want the hair quote "in the way" during her emotional scenes but now the only thing people focus on when watching it is her hair 😂

Fast-tracked marriages are so common in they military, we have our own slang terms and cliched jokes about it. Like 90% of low-ranking enlisted members get married solely to avoid having to live in the barracks. Your brother in law isn’t technically wrong that you can be kicked out for a fraudulent marriage, but 1) it’s nearly impossible to prove and 2) nobody would bother to try and call him on it unless they just generally wanted him gone for other reasons and this just happened to be the only thing they could get to stick. "Contact marriage" are kind of common. Usually they're childhood friends and someone is actually secretly in love with the other then things get messy. On rare occasions they become a real marriage. For this couple in particular, it would be crazy easy to convince the military they're legal after the drug dealer told on them. Especially since they lived together and regularly talked when he was deployed. There are plenty of legit marriages where the spouse back home is garbage and just pretend their deployed spouse exist then cheats the whole time they're gone.

My husband (active Army) and I watched this. The biggest issue we had with this movie is that the ending just didn't make sense. Why did Luke tell his dealer about his plans to commit fraud? How would a dealer know who to even contact to tell on them? Cassie and Luke could have easily fought the charges by just being in love, which they were ? Like, Luke didn't have to go to jail and discharged 😅 Also, you want to tell me that Luke was wounded in war, can't walk. And yet Cassie won't even help him bathe or sleep in the bed? Like, I would have AT LEAST let him sleep in my bed. She's the worst.

I love how she "loves him" soooo much that when he's facing criminal charges for their whole debacle that she first brought up (remember it was her plan to "marry" Frankie for his benefits but then Luke overhears and agrees to it later. So yes, Luke is still responsible, but Cassie is also equally responsible since this ENTIRE situation was her idea) he proceeds to take 100% responsibility- even going so far as to say that he coerced her, and she never stops him! There's no objections whatsoever. No "wait- It was me too!" or "I can't let you take all the heat, I'm just as guilty!", there's never a moment where she tries to admit to her own actions or try to take any sort of responsibility. Just sits there quietly- don't worry guys, she does two little headshakes and mouths the word "no" to herself so that's enough! Then lets the man she "loves" take ALL THE HEAT for a plan that she initially created. So, while Luke goes to prison for 6 months and is dishonorably discharged (again, rightfully so as he is guilty as well) she will continue to live consequence-free enjoying her music career. Wow.

This is a small plot point to get stuck on, but as a former addict, I'm confused how Luke was even able to get a dealer to front him 15K worth of whatever his drug of choice was; heroin probably? I would guess he is definitely not telling the whole truth when it comes to "being an addict". Dealers don't like fronting addicts for obvious reasons, and I can't imagine a dealer letting someone whose just a user have that kinda credit with them. Luke had to be selling for that shady dealer guy. He was probably fronting Luke that amount to sell, and then meeting up with him in a day or two and getting what he was owed. I dunno, that just bothered me Lol anyway, I've been clean since March 2014 🥰 To anyone reading this who wants to get clean, just know that I have absolute faith in you! 💞

Started very young, unfortunately. But I am never going back to that. It's just such a waste. Going binge drinking and end up having a hang over for 2 -3 days after... for what? To get black out drunk while men took advantage of me? I am not proud of what I did when I was drinking, that's for sure, and I had to leave that life behind me. 💕💜

If I rember properly, it was not for drugs. Though i tried to forget the movie, really. Luke had a great idea to steal a car from his father's workshop, planning to sell it. Instead, he took it for a ride and totalled it. His...understanding father basically told him he needs to pay for the car or he'll call the police. Luke couldn't, so he borrowed money from the dealer (not sure why) and was slowly paying them back or whatever... 15k was what was left

I've been a military spouse for 12 years. Next to no one in the community cares if your marriage is "fraudulent." It's common for young enlisted to get married just so they can move out of the dorms. I've known couples who are eachothers beards. I've known couples who are seperated and just continue living together for the benefits. It's so commonplace that most people don't even bat an eye, just so long as you're not sleeping around on base.

I just had the BIGGEST brain fart! When she mentioned heroine I was wondering what if she actually had a heroine problem but passed it off as diabetes and THEN got married to get extra money to support her drug problem and then later they bond over the struggle of trying to get out of drug use. Like, instead of the "bad drug dealer guy" breaking in to her parents house because of him, it would actually be because of her!! And then he would find out that way and try to help her. And then it could spiral from there, you know like an actual good plot?

I’ve been a diabetic since i was 2, (20 years with it) And insurances do randomly deny coverage for insulin. It usually runs up to like $900 for one vial. Those old school syringes make insulin injections burn a lot. People only use those syringes nowadays if they have crappy insurance that doesn’t cover more modern methods. I saw it because of the representation of diabetes. When her blood sugar dropped from not eating, it’s accurate. Some people are more sensitive to low blood sugars than others, and there’s varying factors. I can be up walking around completely fine, just feeling shaky and hungry. Some people can barely walk or chew. The insulin injection scenes are a bit melodramatic but I’ve had days where every injection hurts and burns and i feel worn out and weak as a result

Here is the thing everyone forgets to mention while watching this film. The couple made it seem they could get a quickie divorce and Cassie gets to keep her benefits. Wrong. In order for the dependent to get any benefits, they have to be married for 20 years with someone active duty for 20 years due to the 20 20 plan. You’re in for the long haul guys.

Real marine corps wife here! Quite a few people get married for the benefits 😅 but you have to be SUPER obvious to get caught or one of them has to admit it. They could have easily said "I used to do drugs and my old dealer is mad that he lost my business and trying to get back at me." and that probably would have been the end of it. Also, when the dad got to the hospital we had the same reaction! Not the time dad!

@@sarahg1002 mean I kind of understand the healthcare thing. I’m chronically ill and worry every day about getting a job with great insurance or at least making enough to pay for it myself once I’m off of my mom’s plan. Luckily I have four and half more years to figure it out. I can see why people would marry for the benefits. The healthcare system in America is fucked.
@SchulzEricT
@SchulzEricT Ай бұрын
@@sarahg1002 Yes. You make like 3x as much because you get paid to live off barracks and you get money for food, rather than having money automatically taken out of your paycheck for the chowhall (and then you're never given the opportunity to get to the chowhall, either in the morning - PT then work - or lunch - not enough time to get to the chowhall then back - and oftentimes not after work either - Staff NCOs fucking with you because they're in an unhappy marriage and not eager to go home so they keep you all there so you suffer too). AND you get out of the barracks, and living in the barracks is the primary way Staff NCOs fuck with you: inspecting your room, failing you for bullshit reasons, then securing your libo so you have to spend Friday night cleaning again, then being in uniform to be inspected early Saturday. I'd say probably most Marines just want to fuck off and be left alone, but enough Staff NCOs resent how they go fucked with, so they want to pass it on to the next generation of Marines.

The girl that plays Cassie, Sofia Carson, is in the Descendants movies (Disney+) that are definitely ‘bad’ but I love them and I think you’d get a kick out of them too, I highly recommend them. There’s 3 in total plus an animated show and special but they’re not as ‘good’ as the 3 live action movies.
